Spoilers for Our House ITV

Spoilers ;
Anyone watched it all ?

The ending I found a tad confusing at first until the penny dropped.
I guess it's more devastating in the book because she didn't know Toby and Mick were the same man ? Bram landed her in it and what about the boys and the money and the house ?

The ending was TOO MUCH.

Bimbling along as these ITV dramas do and then there was a pukey corpse, a suicide, and the mum being collared by the fuzz.

Those two boys are going to need a lot of therapy.

Candlecassie · 10/03/2022 13:10

I suppose he did land her in it but I'd have said not intentionally. He couldn't have known what she would do in the flat. The boys lost both parents in the end then.

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2022 13:34

At first ( because I wasn't entirely concentrating at first ) I thought that Bram knew that Fi was aware of the fact that Toby / mick was the same man !
Of course he didn't know she had worked it out or what had happened because he jetted off.
I suppose it makes a lot more sense in the book, a terrible end for her!
Who would get the money ? What became of the two original buyers ? Would they get their money back ?
The poor girl who died too in the car :( hardly mentioned either

I don’t understand why he didn’t just go to the police and confess? But then there would be no story…

zafferana · 10/03/2022 16:04

Yes, the poor kids! I found it really unbelievable that Bram, who loved Fi and adored his DSs would just leave them all and go off to Geneva and commit suicide. Surely a few years in jail would've been preferable to never seeing his DC again and leaving them fatherless?

Someone like him, an essentially 'nice' middle-class guy with no previous criminal offences, would surely have just called the bluff of 'Wendy' right from the start and gone to the police and fessed up? I know I would.

But the whole premise was just silly IMO. No explanation at all as to how Toby/Mike and Wendy met and came up with their plan, no explanation as to how/why they targeted Bram and Fi. They set him up deliberately - why did they do that?

sofakingcool · 10/03/2022 16:09

I couldn't work out if Bram was set up or not? Or was it just bad luck that he was the one to come across them on that road?

zafferana · 10/03/2022 16:15

True and they couldn't have known what would happen in advance of the accident. I guess they could've just been having some 'fun' out there on a dark road late at night and seeing what would happen? Bit unbelievable though ...

rubydoobydoo · 10/03/2022 19:30

I've been looking for a spoiler thread! Just so I can say I don't understand why Fi didn't just go to the police when she realised Toby/Mike was dodgy, instead of inviting him round to the flat and murdering him? It seemed completely out of character!

Yes!
the80sweregreat · 10/03/2022 19:38

True. Why invite him round once she realized he was dodgy ? I would be worried about being killed myself !
The last 20 mins or so crams so much in.

OP posts:
Candlecassie · 10/03/2022 19:38

I had similar thoughts with Bram when he found Toby/Mike in his house. Why didn’t he just go to the police and confess.

NecklessMumster · 10/03/2022 19:41

It explains it better in the book but it's still a bit silly, can't remember v well but know I got v exasperated

NecklessMumster · 10/03/2022 19:42

Bram is meant to be depressed and irrational and eaten up with guilt over child crash death

Ginger1982 · 10/03/2022 20:42

Utter nonsense. No explanation as to how Fi and Bram were 'selected' for the scam, no explanation as to how nobody would have seen the house being emptied and I don't think they conveyed that Bram was desperate enough to want to kill himself. Fi was just a gawping mess throughout the whole thing.

Juno22 · 10/03/2022 20:45

I really enjoyed it. Kept us guessing until the end. And just good entertainment.

zafferana · 10/03/2022 20:53

@NecklessMumster

Bram is meant to be depressed and irrational and eaten up with guilt over child crash death
And yet he was thinking straight enough to set up a Swiss bank account, double cross the con-artists, escape with all the money, leave Fi a bunch of clues (if only she'd known to follow them), transfer the money to her, and leave a nice, neat and tidy confession voicemail for the police?

If he'd been that depressed and irrational I don't think he'd have been capable of also being so crafty, careful and methodical.

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2022 21:31

Who will get the money though ?
Will the new owners get it back ? It's really bugging me and it's not even true!

it's written more in the book why, she is humiliated by the fact Tobey was using her and was never genuinely in to her, it was all part of a scam. that's what drives her over the edge!
hudyerwheesht · 10/03/2022 21:40

Was the spelling book a clue? It seemed like it was relevant but it wasn't explained why, unless I missed it..
(A pp said Fi had left clues, and the photo was obviously one)

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2022 21:40

I downloaded the book for 99p on kindle today
I've only read a few pages so far , but I guess having watched all the episodes nothing is going to surprise me , but it's written in an unusual way I think. I would have been hooked if I hadn't seen the drama on tv first
I was Just curious as to how different it is to the tv version and the author has written a few books that sound intriguing

OP posts:
Candlecassie · 10/03/2022 21:49

I wondered about the spelling book too.

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2022 21:53

I wouldn't have seen any clues either
She had the day from hell as it was !

I've got the book on Audible from 2 years ago. I can't remember wether the endings are the same. Going to have to re listen. Interesting how different things are in your head and then seeing someone else's interpretation. I guess Bram was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. There's been a few crash set ups in our town where someone drives deliberately to get you to hit them and they claim off you. I think that was what the 2 were doing and just happened to hit jackpot with Bram being so rich.

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2022 22:04

They also hit the jackpot because he was banned and been drinking as well !
Most people would have rung the police.

OP posts:
hudyerwheesht · 10/03/2022 22:14

I wouldn't have seen the most obvious clue either but I the spelling book got several mentions and I kept waiting for the relevance to be explained.
