Katie Price: What Harvey Did Next BBC1 7th March 2022

This documentary followed Katie Price’s son Harvey making the transition to a full time residential college (National Star provides specialist further education and residential services for people with physical and learning disabilities/brain injuries). Harvey has been diagnosed with Septo-optic Dysplasia, as well as autism and Prader-Willi syndrome, which means that he requires constant care.

I don’t usually like to see people’s private moments documented on tv when they may not be able to give informed consent. However, putting the ethics to one side for a moment, I did find this documentary very insightful. I feel like it gave a realistic and quite respectful depiction of Harvey’s issues and the conflicting emotions that parents go through in ‘letting go’ of a child with complex needs. The staff who work at these residential colleges are wonderful at supporting these young adults and no doubt get little recognition for it.

Did anyone else see it and find it insightful?

@Margot78 It's not really looking at her through the filter of the press, however much she tries to maintain they are printing a distortion.
In recent years, they lift all their stories on her directly from her SM and IG posts. There are many, many contradictions and mis-truths that she posts herself.

BoodleBug51 · 10/03/2022 09:48

From a compassionate point of view, she's got some pretty serious MH issues and addictions. And she's just surrounded by enablers.

It would be better for her to come out of the public eye and get well again, then try to restore a relationship with her DC but sadly I think she's now on a rapid downward spiral.

Prison would have been a chance to detox and keep her away from surgical procedures for a few years and away from her enablers........... I think it could have done her a lot of good, personally.

@krazykatzlady

i watched as interested in star college ,i wish they showed more of the application and funding process - and less of KP
if you need to know anything, start a thread in the sn topic. I have been through the funding part and had a dc there so would be happy to tell how it was.
parrotonmyshoulder · 10/03/2022 12:01

I haven’t watched the documentary. I do hope it doesn’t lead people to believe that exceptional places like Star College are available across the country to the overwhelming majority of our disabled young people. Provision pre- and post-16 is woefully lacking.

Samcro · 10/03/2022 14:44

your not wrong. for us there were only 2 colleges in the whole country that suited my dc. one was out as our council would't fund due to them having bad ofsted type reports.

Thanks samcro
Just in the process of applying for residential college - but we are in Wales which complicates things!
Statements here have to be stopped then a learning & skills plan made (bonkers why not use the statement?!), All local colleges have to say no, then once residential college accepts the application goes through careers Wales to the Welsh assembly for funding 🙄. College identified in September at AR, still no sign of the application for funding going to Welsh gov.
Horrific process.
If this 1 college says no then no time to trial others 🤷‍♀️.

I hope England is easier!

Samcro · 10/03/2022 16:25

yes we had to look at local colleges. even one that wasn't built!! lucky for us none of them met her needs.

"With Harvey gone, there's a void in my life"... eer what about your FOUR other children?!?

Twospaniels · 10/03/2022 21:28

@Clymene

Her children should be taken into care. If she weren't famous they would be. She's an absolute disgrace
Don’t be so ridiculous.

Apart from Harvey, all the children have loving fathers who they live with most of the time.

Surely she can still feel a void for that person!
