New series on the BBC. Started 9pm tonight, it’s pretty mind boggling so far.

I'm embararrased for these interviewees - such tiny minds. They'd still be inferior beings no matter the make-up of the population

IamSamantha · 13/02/2022 21:30

Watching with my 15 year old. He's as mystified as we are.

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/02/2022 21:36

Explains why there are no or very few women. They’re now allowed to take part…

Was that a needle cap in the pool?

I agree but I’m glad he’s doing it as part of me is desperate to understand where it’s all coming from. Putting it down to stupidity feels lazy and it helped Trump get elected. There’s got to be another reason so many disenfranchised men are drawn to this fight and a way to dial things back.

$4k a stream and he’s living in his mums basement Confused

FleshLiabilities · 13/02/2022 21:40

They're not exactly the brains trust are they?

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/02/2022 21:50

I don’t think they mean the same thing by irony as we do.

I blame Alanis
Auntieobem · 13/02/2022 21:54

Just ironic rape threats.....

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/02/2022 22:02

He was definitely a lot less faux diffident and more combative and cards on the table. I think he might have got more out of them if he hadn’t gone in so hard. He looked disgusted and that’s going to make people defensive.

They’re not exactly intellectual heavy weights so their critical thinking is lacking but it escalated to rowing quicker than it could have, maybe.

I’ll watch the next two, it’s really interesting. The link to gaming makes sense but I hadn’t heard it before.

The guy sitting there telling Louie to do one whilst still wearing a Louie T-shirt....
Grin

turksturban · 13/02/2022 22:11

"I blame Alanis"

Lol

MuffinStrops · 13/02/2022 22:14

I watched a bit of it and noticed Louis was actually being quite combative. I don’t like his usual style. I think it’s important to try and understand the mindset of these people too.

3peassuit · 13/02/2022 22:16

I think it would be impossible for Louis T to appear neutral in the face of such lunacy.

Pastryapronsucks · 13/02/2022 22:50

The worrying thing is we are getting these sorts of folk in the UKAngry

longwayoff · 13/02/2022 23:20

These sorts of folk are worldwide, some in every country. They are generally poor, ill educated and harbouring a strong sense of resentment that they're not getting the respect they feel they deserve. Because of this they are easy to exploit and groom in hatred by those with a hate agenda. Steve Bannon. Donald Trump. And look at bloody Boris with his comments about Starmer and Savile. Utter distortion to whip up the ignorant and nurture an impotent fury from nothing. To divert attention from his own law breaking and save his own skin. Very difficult to remain neutral when faced with a cult of hatred.

FranklySonImTheGaffer · 14/02/2022 00:07

I'm watching now. I generally like Louis specifically because he tends to act in an impartial way while showing interest and asking the question I would want to ask but in this he's stating his views quite clearly and it's effecting the answers he's getting.

I also find it interesting how many of the interviewees are stressing that they aren't fighting for an America that is 100% white, as if that makes them so reasonable that people are strange for disagreeing with them.

Also, how they are stating their beliefs is so confusing - they're outright stating that they're racist, sexist etc then laughing as though they're joking and don't really mean it or being offended when asked if they're racist etc.

It's a terrifying watch, they're all so out of touch with reality.

NatashaBedwouldbenice · 14/02/2022 14:57

I found the situation frustrating, there's no reasoning or arguing with them. It's like watching someone debate Trump. I completely understand how Theroux lost patience with them.

I don't know what the answer is. I think they need confronting with the ultimate end results of such hate speech.

girafferafferaffe · 14/02/2022 21:02

Watching it now. These people are absolutely disgusting.

mizu · 14/02/2022 21:11

They are all saying I'm not a white nationalist but ........ Grin

mizu · 14/02/2022 21:12

So concerning to me that this guy is 22!

22!!!

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/02/2022 21:21

22 and just so shockingly confident. You’d laugh at his presidential ambitions if Trump hadn’t been elected…

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 14/02/2022 21:34

I found it terrifying because they were so plausible. And they weren’t poorly educated. The guy with dark hair had been to college and Baked Alaska had done 2 years.

They were terrifying because they were articulate, presentable ( except the one who kicked Louis out) and plausible. Not like our Britain First dimwits.

longwayoff · 14/02/2022 21:56

There's a film Idiocracy. Coen brothers about 20? odd years old. When it was made it was a stupid comedy: now it's like a bloody foretelling of their future, our present. Unbelievable how we've surrendered our autonomy and freedom of thought to the slave rooms of Instagram and Facebook where Kardashians rule. No wonder people can't think straight. Very scary.
