New series on the BBC. Started 9pm tonight, it’s pretty mind boggling so far.

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 14/02/2022 22:56

There's just so many things I could say

They just love having arguments

The views on women were so stupid it was laughable

purpleme12 · 14/02/2022 22:58

What that man was saying about raping that woman 😲

She didn't seem to take it very seriously to me

And I can't understand why they all use the justification 'it's funny'
Firstly I've no idea how it's funny anyway and I don't understand how they expect us to believe that they actually thought that

nancy75 · 14/02/2022 23:06

Other than the mini Hitler (Nick?) the other 2 struck me as people who didn’t totally believe in what they’re saying but think it’s funny & it gets them money/views so why not. They are like overgrown brats thinking it’s cool/funny/edgy to say the rudest swear word or joke.
Sadly they are too stupid to realise the reason why not is because some people viewing will take it seriously & pick up a gun.
I’m surprised Louis didn’t point out that with a name like Fuentes that guy’s family were immigrants somewhere down the line.

2Rebecca · 15/02/2022 20:36

I was unimpressed by this. The men were stupid and unpleasant and Louis didn't turn the in to relatable people, they remained caricatures. Not sure how much of that is them and how much Louis. Maybe after Savile he is wary of appearing too friendly with nasty blokes.

NurseButtercup · 15/02/2022 21:46

They remind me of the socially awkward kids at school, who struggled to get girlfriends and always made stupid offensive comments to get negative attention, then passed off their shitty comments as jokes.

It's also really pathetic that Nick Fuentes is operating from his parents basement.
I wouldn't be surprised if he's a closet bisexual & has a fetishism for black and Asian men & women.

JoanWilderbeast · 16/02/2022 19:13

Agree that it seemed a bit of a wasted opportunity as he did seem to be allowed quite a bit of access and could have used it better to subvert, as I thought he usually does, rather than be just another they're all reprehensible exposé.

ThreeRingCircus · 16/02/2022 22:16

I think this movement attracts disenfranchised young men, boys that never got attention from girls at school and now hate women, people that are insecure and inadequate and resentful. What is concerning is that pockets of the internet give room for this kind of mindset to breed, for lonely teenagers to find a group and a sense of belonging. I hope they'll all grow up, look back and be ashamed of what idiots they have been but I'm not so sure. I felt that the Baked Alaska guy understood the terrible consequences of hate speech online translating into real world violence but was more concerned with getting views and money from knuckle-draggers.

Stellaris22 · 17/02/2022 13:30

Our reaction to Nick was that he was a grifter, I wondered if he actually believes the rubbish he says in his videos, it seemed very scam like.

JoanWilderbeast · 18/02/2022 19:00

Just remembered, one of them said something like "Gaming is the new golf course".

Exactly what I said too re Fuentes - he’s so thick he doesn’t realise.
JustDanceAddict · 19/02/2022 15:52

Agree it wasn’t the usual Louis modus operandi, but maybe he’s too well known now in the States for his infiltration type journalism.
Bring racist/misogynistic/homophobic/anti-Semitic is not funny in any context.
The ‘Twitter is gay’ song - Ffs - grown men think that’s good comedy?

Whitney168 · 21/02/2022 12:20

God, I love Louis, but I just had to switch this off last night. Could not watch any more of these utter wastes of space or listen to the dreadful noise they call music. I think I've turned in to my mother LOL.

2Rebecca · 21/02/2022 16:31

I think he's made the mistake of engaging with people who are too extreme. The conversations are unrevealing as well. There is no attempt to really understand these blokes. It's more "aren't they nasty"

Supersee · 21/02/2022 17:15

I am usually LT's biggest fan. I love love love him, however I just didn't like this and I can't put my finger on why. Obviously those 'men' were absolute cretins but I wasn't sure about his interviewing. His silence usually draws out the info he wants but I'm not sure on this one.

I also listened to his Grounded series on BBC Sounds the other day, and he interviewed Leah Rimini (former Scientologist actress) and he kept interrupting her. It was so annoying as she was saying some really interesting stuff about Scientology.

CosmopolitanPlease · 21/02/2022 20:40

It's not really clicking with me. I feel disappointed that he's abandoned his British viewers to concentrate on subcultures in the US that most of us probably don't care about. I'd have liked to see him with groups of people in the UK, maybe online paedo hunters or addicts of some kind, and go back to meeting minor British celebrities with dodgy private lives.

Whitney168 · 21/02/2022 21:13

I wondered about the ‘too extreme’ but he’s done things like the Westboro church that have to be thought of as extreme and done them very well.

I didn’t like last week’s much either, with the far right politician, but got through that one. Perhaps this week’s were just too unrelatable for me.

Febrier · 22/02/2022 09:49

I've got a question right from the beginning (because I've only just started). There's a white man who is a "rap mogul". His teeth seem outlined in black. What causes that?

If you're talking about the one I think, his teeth are actually encrusted with diamonds. They did look like black outlines in some shots, closer up looked like honeycomb. Why anyone would want to do that to themselves is beyond me, but hey ho.
CosmopolitanPlease · 22/02/2022 10:20

It made his teeth look grey and decayed. I cannot understand why someone would pay tens of thousands of dollars to achieve that effect.

Whitney168 · 22/02/2022 12:31

It was very bizarre.

Febrier · 22/02/2022 12:45

Ah yes, Louis asked him. I hadn't realised there were diamonds. It must make brushing and flossing very difficult.

I can't really get in to this series either. I don't understand half of what is being said this week and I was completely disinterested in what the racists had to say last week. This lot remind me of year 8s.

Stellaris22 · 22/02/2022 12:47

The teeth themselves looked far too straight, so I thought maybe they weren't his actual teeth? Otherwise the tooth itself would surely get damaged.

purpleme12 · 04/03/2022 10:14

Awkward watching that interview with Serenity Haze

absolutelynotfabulous · 04/03/2022 10:58

I'm not engaging with this series at all. I normally love Louis. I'm wondering if he's maybe past his sell-by.

I had to turn off the rapper episode as I found it unwatchable.

Same. I wasn't interested in the rap episode and I didn't enjoy, for want of a better word, at all.
