Anyone else just binge watched this sickly sweet but ashamed to say addictive show?

In my defence I find it so bad in so many ways but equally addictive!

I loved the first season and am really looking forward to getting stuck into season 2.

It didn’t take me long 😂

It’s so preachy but just let it wash over me now and I can see how people find it comforting.

I felt the second season included more religion or just more religious references. You are right it is sickly sweet. I still watched it!

RedRobyn2021 · 13/02/2022 20:53

No I keep trying but my daughter interrupts I'm only on episode 3, it's a great show though, heartwarming.

BiscuitLover3678 · 13/02/2022 20:54

Does anyone like Cal? I don’t find him especially attractive and don’t feel his chemistry with Maddie, even pre the anger stuff.

I love Helen although sometimes her acting makes me think of Emma Watson and her eyebrows circa goblet of fire.

I like that they actually acknowledged having a gay character (I thought they’d play it safe as are so preacher and probably a popular red state show). And actually diverse and no racism. Maybe that’ll help normalise race and sexuality in small towns. Who knows!

I love Annie and think the kids are great.

I've been feeling the same - no chemistry between Cal and Maddie whatsoever! I've also enjoyed the children's stories rather than the adults 🤷🏼‍♀️ I know it is set in the South but the religious references have really amped up this season - it's a bit much for me really. Still enjoying watching though!
RedRobyn2021 · 13/02/2022 21:45

Agree about Cal OP

They look like two hens pecking each other when they kiss

Definitely far more holy stuff. Their market research must have told them it tested well with evangelical audiences so they decided to ratchet up all the churchiness.

Helen's acting is too much. Stop the overacting, woman!

Dana-Sue is a pain in the ass.

Maddie and the coach don't work for me. He looks like he's had work done since season 1?

Her ex husband comes from the 'pretend you're constipated' school of acting.

Ty is exactly the kind of teenage boy I'd have mooned over when I was 16. His brother is beyond annoying though.

I mainly like it for the houses. Love the houses. Grin

Classica · 13/02/2022 21:53

Oh and I love that the most work you ever see going on in the restaurant kitchen is someone casually chopping some tomatoes.

CrackerGal · 13/02/2022 21:54

Is it worth watching?
I'm a little put off bc Jamie-Lynn Spears is in it 🙈
Does she have a big role?

she features more in the first season than the second. she's kind of peripheral though.
CrackerGal · 16/02/2022 13:25

Great,I might give it a go the trailer for it does look good! Thank you

BiscuitLover3678 · 16/02/2022 14:00

You’ve got to accept it for what it is and let yourself get into it. Also oh my the cliffhanger end of season 1 was no expected!

I’m also there for the houses and small town charm. Looks so warm.

It’s more cheesy than virgin river but has more characters and for some reason I like it more

BiscuitLover3678 · 16/02/2022 14:02

I think with virgin river you have to find the main guy attractive and I don’t lol

I'm shocked Maddie doesn't have a dozen kids, given how potent her exes sperm is.

Her acting is shocking tbh. I've committed to the series so I'll see it through but the acting is very hammy and the story lines and script are pretty cringey, also, waaaay more religious imo, which I find quite off putting.
DetailMouse · 18/02/2022 16:54

Isn't the diversity there simply because they're making that point? I'm not sure any of those people would actually be friends IRL

I started the second series but seem to have abandoned it now, it started getting on my nerves

I think the racial diversity is because of the population of South Carolina. The fact they all get along and the lgbtq acceptance is unlikely, but actually by normalising it they’re more likely to make it the norm.

Thank you for that I was wonder what the acting was like!
I have it on my want to watch list & I'll give it a go when I get some spare time.

It's definitely more cheesy than Virgin River but I prefer Virgin River. Hoping for new series soon...

I enjoyed season 1 and wanted to watch season 2 after the cliff hanger…I struggled through season 2. Felt like it was very slow to build then escalated quickly at the end.
Lots of things irritated me in season 2, Helen’s drama acting, Annie’s pout, how unrealistic it is..like, how on earth can two of them have full time jobs and run a spa? Especially Dana Sue with a restaurant. Most businesses don’t turn a profit in the first year so how is Maddie keeping that roof over her head? I enjoyed season 1 but was underwhelmed by season 2.

Bemoreatticus · 21/02/2022 10:02

I have enjoyed both series but it has got heavy on the religion. It's completely unrealistic and sugary but I think I like the way it looks so it's like Hallmark Christmas Movie comforting viewing. The kids stories are more interesting than the adults though!
