Spoiler thread ..
For the binge watchers amongst us only!

I've just finished episode 3 ..

I can't believe the sister is thinking of leaving her son behind or that the mum would pay the money without telling her husband anything.
Would Milo be able to go home without giving evidence? Obviously it's different in Turkey ( although it's obviously set in Spain )
I did notice different door numbers too?
The lawyer is very annoying but I did feel for him when he found out dad had been to the press.
Silly man.

Thanks. I hope I don't get annoyed with the characters i.e. the mum paying the bribe, the Dad going to the newspapers.

It's a good story never the less. I'll be watching it unfold over the coming weeks.

lazymum99 · 09/02/2022 12:29

Anyone else watched the whole lot yet?
Don't know if I can talk about it

Loveisthere · 09/02/2022 12:38

I have watched it all no spoilers but was not that impressed with the ending. Still enjoyed it though and the hotel they stayed in is our favourite hotel in spain just thought I would put that out there...

lazymum99 · 09/02/2022 13:00

I thought he was going to come off a lot worse than he did simply because homosexuality is illegal in Turkey, never mind the assault.

Not entirely sure whether he did assault the other boy or not.

Felt for his sister having to sit through all those details

the80sweregreat · 09/02/2022 16:59

Well, finished it today
I was amazed at how clean and ironed they all were at times.
Ambiguous ending considering we saw the bruises on him in episode one.
I enjoyed it though , I felt a bit sorry for the sister too.
Remind me not to get into any trouble on holiday though.

Midnight Express. Now there’s a film to teach you to behave on holiday in Turkey.
As an aside, the prison in midnight express is now a Four Seasons hotel!

Omfg! I watched that film when I was probably far too young and was so traumatised, it gave me nightmares afterwards 😫 I can still remember some if the most shocking scenes now, about 30 years later 😟
AngryMuppet · 10/02/2022 08:46

Howdy fellow bingers. Going to assume it's okay to talk about all the details with full spoilers

Anyone else feel confused by how chirpy the ending was? He had a conviction. Admittedly "only" statutory rape but how would that affect his future? Wouldn't it mean he was still a sex offender or does that only count if you offend in the UK?

Felt very abrupt too. They could have cut or massively shaved the sister's boring and soapy subplot and shown more of how it affected him.

I'm also Hmm about the explanation for his bruises too and definitely expected his guilt or innocence to be either more of a mystery or more resolved. If he was jumped by the gang (which I thought sounded feeble and made-up), I thought we would go back to it either when the daughter/sister or SS was back in the UK. To confirm or deny. But since we didn't, are we supposed to take his explanation/innocence at face value?

TangledUp789 · 10/02/2022 10:45

The happy ending felt off. By his own admission Noah had anger issues and watched violent porn. He forcefully pushed Milo up against a wall and had sex with him without properly ensuring there was consent. I don't think Noah deliberately had sex with Milo against his will (and even if he did the evidence was lacking), so I thought the outcome was right. But I feel like if the accuser had been a girl, the tone of those final scenes would have been very different. And there wouldn't still be a question mark over whether it was a false accusation. Why would Milo even make a false rape accusation? It's not like his parents had caught him and Noah together.

I thought the show itself was a load of cliched, soapy nonsense. I only kept watching for Rico. I know he was a bit of a pantomime character but I thought he was hilarious. A four part series of Rico driving around Turkey and meeting up with his various clients would have been a thousand times more entertaining than four episodes of Sheridan Smith's anguished face. And all the stuff with the sister and her family was pointless. They could have cut out all that padding and made the series two episodes shorter. My only other positive aside from Rico is Noah. I thought the actor who played him was good.

lazymum99 · 10/02/2022 12:15

A new spin off:
Better Call Rico
Grin

ThePoetsWife · 10/02/2022 14:04

Binge watcher here - the other thing that was odd is that the parents were shocked to learn Noah is gay, given how much the mum made a big deal of being close to him and knowing what he's thinking etc when he was younger. Surely on some level she must have realised?

user1471504747 · 10/02/2022 19:16

That felt like such a pointless watch. Nothing really happened...

worriedatthemoment · 16/02/2022 00:24

What actually was he found guilty for? As they said they found him not guilty or assault and was most likely consensual,?

worriedatthemoment · 16/02/2022 00:25

Didn't we see the bruises before he went out ?

lazymum99 · 16/02/2022 08:29

Homosexuality is illegal in Turkey. That is what he was found guilty of
Meredusoleil · 16/02/2022 08:36

What's the deal with the sister and BIL? Only watched the 1st 2 episodes so far. But confused about what is going on with them. Heard something about IVF and their son not being normal? What were those deleted messages on his phone that she saw?

The son has ADHD and Bil is a drug addict Would Noah have a criminal conviction in the UK? If he was found guilty of being gay ,that,s obviously not a crime here how do criminal convictions in other countries affect a person,s DBS?
Meredusoleil · 16/02/2022 11:18

Oh I didn't realise it was drugs with the BIL! I thought he was seeing a prostitute 🤨

worriedatthemoment · 16/02/2022 18:26

@lazymum99 well thats what I thought but reading on here made me think i heard it wrong

x2boys · 16/02/2022 21:44

So how would that impact Noah in real life then ,?
If he was found guilty of being gay ,which is clearly not a crime in the UK would it show up on a DBS ?

x2boys · 16/02/2022 21:46

And would Milo not also be guilty of f being gay ?

Meredusoleil · 16/02/2022 21:49

Just watched episode 3. Getting more and more sad now. Felt so bad for Noah's sister having to eat her lunch in the toilet 😢

And I just knew something was going to happen in the prison. Noah should have pushed that other guy's hand away, even if he had to pretend. It could have saved him from having to kick the guy later on 🤔

Can't believe how extreme the judge was. The new lady lawyer seems way better than Rico. Although the Embassy lady was very bad 🙄

Meredusoleil · 16/02/2022 21:51

@x2boys

And would Milo not also be guilty of f being gay ?
Milo is underage. So it would be considered more like a non-consensual thing eg rape. I think?
Wartywart · 16/02/2022 21:54

Goodness, what a lot of assumptions in this thread. Homosexuality is not illegal in Turkey. It was made legal back in the 1800s by the Ottomans and confirmed again in 1923 during the founding of modern Turkey.

The attitudes towards it are a lot like the attitudes that were held in this country 50 years ago however.

I'm not being goady I'm just interested ,the court said Noah wasent guilty of a sexual attack ,and as homosexually isn't an offence in Turkey ,what was he found guilty of ? Was it sexual activity with a minor ? Even though it was acknowledged they were weeks apart in age ?
