Neighbours is ENDING?!?!!!

Just heard the news that Neighbours will cease production before the end of this year thanks to Channel 5 pulling funding on the production as they want to make more UK based dramas. I'm devastated. I've watched it every day more or less since I was 2 (initially with my mum as a child and now it just continues...). It's my little get away / 20 minutes of escape. I'm so sad.

I’m sad too! I have also been watching it a very long time. They’re stopping production in June and last episode on channel 5 will be in August. Neighbours said they are committed to finding another broadcaster🤞 But it is ceasing production indefinitely from June.

I know it’s only a TV show but I’m devastated. Sometimes it’s my only little chink of joy in a life full of worry and stress. I look forward to watching a weeks episodes on my day off when I can escape from my worries and enjoy some light relief, it’s almost like being on holiday in a way, especially when they’re on the Lassiters complex!! Everyone is sipping a coffee or sat by the pool!

@Thisusis I feel the same. I know it’s “only” a programme but it got me through being bullied when I was at school, and now as an adult I like to spend my Tuesday non-working day binging the weeks episodes for the escapism it always gives me from the stresses of daily life.

This feels wierd. I haven't watched it for 20 years, but I watched it when I was young, and this just feels wrong.

I haven’t watched Neighbours for years but I do watch Home and Away and I’d feel the same as you if that ended.

I might have to give Home & Away a go, I’ll need to get some sunshine and light relief somewhere else.

Im gutted too - like other posters, it's gotten me through some dark times as it's a bit of escapism with the sun always shining (even when bad stuff is happening in the show!). Will really miss it. Hope it manages to get saves!

I've loved Neighbours for years and Scott and Charlene's wedding is still my all time favourite piece of television history. However the storylines have been dire recently especially that who polyamorous plot is awful. I'm kind of feeling the same about Home and Away. A couple of years ago I'd say it was the best soap on telly with great storylines but even that's getting on my nerves. Can't stick Mia and her daughter, Theo and I just don't care about Fliss either.

I have to admit I haven't watched Neighbours for years but feel very sad about this news. My late 80s/ early 90s routine every single night was getting in from school and settling down on the sofa to watch Neighbours with a cup of tea and biscuit with my mum and sister. My mum died unexpectedly last year and whenever I think of Neighbours I think back to those happy, carefree afternoons snuggled on the sofa with her. Scott and Charlene's wedding was the greatest TV moment in my lifetime.

I haven't watched it for years but I think they should start running Classic Neighbours like they do with Corrie and EastEnders. I bet they'd get loads of viewers!

Am totally up for Neighbours Gold! So sad I still have all my Neighbours books and magazines from 1986.

No, storylines will be run past C5 for sign off. The difference is they want to invest more in original dramas particularly after their recent Sheridan Smith drama.

It is the guilty pleasure for TV viewing in our house - me, the teenager and the pet. It has been brilliant over the last few years for bringing up teenager issues that my teenager and I then discuss. It is family friendly (apart from the ridiculous poly whatever story line) and that makes it easy to discuss what ifs. Hendrix and all his escapades - now a mature young man!

When I was a toddler, mum used to secretly watch it during the day time without my dad knowing. I learnt to sing the "neighbours" theme tune in toddler fashion. One day, dad put the tele on in the evening to watch the news and (mum can't remember before or after) the theme tune comes on. I start singing and dad wondered how I knew it. This happened a few times and then the penny dropped... and I landed mum in it 😂😂

They should just start it again from scratch, I'd love to watch neighbours again from the beginning, I'll be 80 by the time we finish the reruns!!

I haven't watched it for years but I always liked knowing it was still on! I saw Karl Kennedy in my local high street once. Hope it gets picked up somewhere else

I’m sorry for the fans but I’m pleased C5 are investing in UK drama. Shame it can’t afford both but if one has to give, I’m glad it’s not the Original Drama strand.
