Just heard the news that Neighbours will cease production before the end of this year thanks to Channel 5 pulling funding on the production as they want to make more UK based dramas. I'm devastated. I've watched it every day more or less since I was 2 (initially with my mum as a child and now it just continues...). It's my little get away / 20 minutes of escape. I'm so sad.

I might have to boycott Sheridan smith as a result!

I'm sure I heard on the radio tonight that if they can find another UK producer willing to keep on filming they will do

I haven’t watched it since the early 1990s but I have good memories of the Scott and Charlene days. Loved Plain Jane Superbrain and Mrs Mangel. It was on at 5.35 on weekdays. If I was off school unwell I’d watch the repeat the following lunch time too !

It was the sunshine, swimming pools and open plan living that seemed so appealing.

I remember the episode where Paul and Gail kissed. It was a cliffhanger and we talked of nothing else at school the next day. With awful timing our tv broke the same day and so my mum asked our next door neighbour if I could go round to watch the next episode. Remember Paul and Gail? They were pretending to be in a relationship or something and then it got real! Ah, swoon. 😂

And I agree that Scott and Charlene’s wedding was the biggest tv event of my youth!

Plain Jane super brain is still in it!

I’ve liked seeing characters return.

Does anyone remember Bouncer the dogs dream episode? My husband just showed me 😂

Aww no! I had to stop watching it after my mum died - we used to watch it together when I was a teenager (it was my little escape from GCSE revision), and then when I moved out, I would always ring her straight after Neighbours every evening because I knew she'd be sitting in her chair by the phone. It was our daily ritual for years, and after she died, I couldn't bear to hear the theme tune and not be able to reach for the phone, but it's one of those things that's always been there.

I am so sad to hear it might be finishing. I was obsessed with it as a kid (in the Scott & Charlene days) and watched it while on maternity leave with all my kids not that long ago. I think it has gone a bit downhill recently, however I don't want it to go.

There was something between channel 5 and the programme makers not that long ago and it cast doubt on the future of Neighbours on channel 5, but it got resolved. I am guessing channel 5 has maybe wanted rid of it for a while so this wanting to invest in UK drama is the line they are taking. These are my thoughts on it anyway

I have been watching it for many years, l will miss it. We will never know what happens to the two baby girls!
The wedding l liked was that of Libby and Drew, it had a Scottish theme l think.

I absolutely loved neighbours and was a huge fan from the 80s until about two years ago when it just all went a bit weird with strange camera angles and bizarre storylines, characters I didn’t really care about. It just seemed like a totally different programme all of a sudden. I’m sad it’s going to end but I would totally watch if they stared showing it from the beginning again!

I was just saying this to my dd2. In my head there was a future story where the twins found out uncle Leo was Abi’s dad.

It did amuse me that Leo was moving out
... all the way to the penthouse!

It is very sad. I haven't watched it for years, but it's a British institution isn't it . Mine and DH s favourite photo ever is the one of us with 'Toadie' in a bar in Sydney. I mean I'd save that ahead of the wedding pics!

Another end of another era. Haven't watched it for years but very sad
