Dream home makeovers with Sophie Robinson

Anyone watching?

I feel like £500 to update a bedroom is not a "tiny budget". And she has only bought paint!

And then the other couple who have given her £18000 to decorate their bog standard house. Shock

The paint for my bedroom was probably £30, if you also include priming and glossing the woodwork Grin

Oh god, it's all bloody awful.

The art deco couple in particular. A gold ceiling?! And those sofas look so uncomfortable.s

I liked the bedroom but not sure how quickly I'd get tired of it. The 70s house was an abomination.

MissAmbrosia · 26/01/2022 20:01

I recorded it, watched 5 mins and deleted it. She got right on my tits.

WingingItSince1973 · 26/01/2022 20:08

Did anyone see last week's when they 'upcycled' a beautiful ercol cabinet? I was gobsmacked. I do paint furniture that needs it but to do that to such a beautiful and expensive piece was soul destroying (yes I know dramatic 🤣)

Escapetothecounty · 26/01/2022 21:05

Hmmm I enjoyed last week's but was hoping for some with smaller budgets...now I'm hoping they're all big budget because tonight's we're awful! Both schemes seemed very gimmicky/costumey and like they will date very quickly. What exactly did they spend 500 quid on in the bedroom as it sounds like the lights, cushions, throw and labour were excluded?!

Will give it another chance next week though.

Arbeity · 27/01/2022 06:54

So so gimmicky. I was hoping to get some good ideas for my house, but I don't want a themed room. Or somewhere that makes me feel drunk. That colour blocking was far too busy to be restful

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 27/01/2022 13:19

When she said £500 wouldn’t cover the paint for the room, I was shocked. £500 would cover the paint for my house, garden fence and the local church.

The colour blocking reminded me of a teen hub room in a connexions building in the mid 00’s.

I liked the dining set in the other house..

Last week, I hated the black room. Looked like a posh gentleman’s club...

Yeah that was appalling. I don't think my taste matches hers tbh. I might not bother with any more episodes.

ArtfulTodger · 29/01/2022 19:10

The upcycled Ercol was horrifying Grin

Normally love SR but some of these rooms are ghastly. Trying too hard it seems.

SwedishEdith · 02/02/2022 19:27

These rooms tonight are looking a lot more liveable with.

SwedishEdith · 02/02/2022 19:41

Not sure about the painted ceiling - too studenty/these were the only paints the landlord had.

That sofa looks really uncomfortable.

SwedishEdith · 02/02/2022 19:47

Oh, no, don't like that terracotta shade. Only goes with blue.

Lennybythewood · 02/02/2022 19:48

The green and yellow living room is awful

SwedishEdith · 02/02/2022 19:49

I thought it started off as promising but, no, way too much. Like the yellow. And that's it.

Lennybythewood · 02/02/2022 19:50

Agree, far too much going on. Think I'd need sunglasses to spend any time in it.

ponkydonkey · 02/02/2022 20:10

I was just watching it with my son and he kept asking me why is was saying

" oh god that's awful" 🤣🤣

I love interiors and do think she knows what she's talking about, but that yellow accent and blue cornicing was dreadful

ArtfulTodger · 03/02/2022 06:40

I loved the coral bedroom.

My friend has William Morris wallpaper slapped up on every inch of her house and it's wonderful. Just the original boring colours though 😋

LemonViolet · 04/02/2022 01:21

Haha I’m loving it all so far! Just discovered it on the channel 5 app today have watched the first 2 episodes and now on the third. I love SR and maximalism in general, colour, pattern, texture, the lot. I can see if you are more a neutral vibe type person it wouldn’t be to your taste.

The first episode the budget on the Georgian place was eye watering wasn’t it! I loved the hallway, didn’t think the living room came together quite as well, wasn’t 100% on the carpet.

The black room was as good as it could be for the giant snooker table! I thought maybe if they’d re-felted it in a colour other than bright green it could have been spectacular though. Purple or blue maybe.

Second episode I loved the “Art Deco” house! Was especially interested in the custom built banquette seating in the dining area in the middle dark bit of the house, as I’m thinking of doing something similar, although my current plan is also to incorporate some built-in vivaria for my reptiles and base the colour scheme on dark red/burgundy Grin

The colour blocked bedroom I think was my least favourite so far, I didn’t dislike it just think I’d get tired of it quickly, it was just one idea for the entire room, although I’ve been thinking of incorporating some colour blocking into our bedroom but with metallic/textured blocks on dark background rather than just contrasting colours.

Is she sponsored by Little Greene paints btw?

Nice spotting Barbara Ramani from Interior Design Masters on it as well!

LemonViolet · 04/02/2022 02:23

Ok after watching ep3 I think Little Greene definitely have paid for product placement!!!

The VictorIndian house was amazeballs I think, the combination of that vibrant William Morris with the yellow and blue was fabulous. Also the coral and pale blue bedroom was wonderful based around that bird pattern, loved it all.

The scandi/farmhouse one I’m betting is going to be most peoples favourite, I found it quite dull overall, I can see how it would be a relaxing space to be in, but for somewhere you’d mostly be spending time in the evenings in the dark I’d prefer more sumptuousness, richness and cosiness. At least it wasn’t cold or bland though, but I just didn’t find it very interesting or inspiring.

Can’t wait to see what she does next. Would love her to come and help me do a room.

rosegoldwatcher · 04/02/2022 21:10

Loving this series - Sophie Robinson can design my rooms whenever she likes!
The Victoriana rooms in episode 3 were right up my street, except for the bright yellow paint on the fireplace.

But that 10 seater sofa in the Scandi inspired farmhouse!!! You would be replumping each and every time someone got up from it...

LemonViolet · 05/02/2022 06:13

Agree on that sofa. I’ve had a similar sofa (not as big) and it always looked messy and cushions slowly fell off as you sat on them. Was so comfy though, but I wouldn’t have one as squishy again.

I had a long drive yesterday and mostly listened to Sophie Robinson’s podcast en route. She does it with another designer who’s more minimalist, it’s called The Great Indoors. Content is very good but they both shout and giggle a lot and at one point I noticed she sounds just like Queenie from Blackadder and now that’s all I can hear, I hope I haven’t ruined watching her for myself! I love her style so much.

rosegoldwatcher · 05/02/2022 18:22

Yes, she is very excitable!

I loved her verbose and loud enthusiasm when she was a judge on The Great Interior Design Challenge. But then they swapped her for 'too cool for school' Kelly Hoppen! It was never the same...

WingingItSince1973 · 05/02/2022 19:50

I do love SR and very much my style, her and Abigail Ahern as I also love dark interiors bur she's a maximilist too. I did like the scandi vibe room and the sofa was a gorgeous colour but soon as saw it I thought they will be pumping those cushions up on a regular basis! Love all the rooms except the colour block bedroom but then everyone is different x

MichaelAndEagle · 09/02/2022 21:30

I liked them all tonight. I think that 60:30:10 rule for using colours is so useful and quite easy to follow.

Greenhippoblue · 10/02/2022 12:25

I loved last nights, all of the rooms were gorgeous! And both houses were pretty impressive by themselves...
