I've gotten myself into a web of deception deeper than any TS contestant
I promised DH and family I was going to stay away from MN and Digital Spy this year and work out everything by myself. I promised myself that the shock and surprise at the unmaskings would be worth it. Then I broke last week and joined the thread, soon deciding that yes, Poodle was definitely Tom Chaplin. DH is a big Keane fan though and I just couldn't keep the news to myself. I tried to play it subtle at first; played Hopes and Fears in the car and remarked that actually Tom C sounds a bit like Gary Barlow at times, and I had previously said that Poodle sounded like Gary B so wouldn't it be funny if Tom were Poodle. DH just scoffed at me. Told me Tom wouldn't do that show and anyway the voices are nothing alike. So then I went for a blatant lie. Told him that we were discussing TMS at work and several colleagues have sussed Tom as Poodle. He still said we were all mad. Then on Saturday he listened intently. He insisted on pausing the broadcast after the performance and listened to a Keane track straight away to compare. He reviewed the clues and eventually concluded that my "work colleagues" may actually be right. He was pretty much beside himself with excitement at the unmasking.
Now though, I can't decide if I added to the experience by laying him a breadcrumb trail, or if I should have waited for the unmasking to be a complete surprise.
I'm trying desperately to forget everything else I've seen on this thread but also can't stay away. I want to discuss theories and see if others have caught the same clues.
I have two utterly left-field guesses which deep down, I know are unlikely but in the spirit of the game I'm trying to forget everything I've seen about Mark Westlife and Aled Jones and go with what the clues and voices are telling me...
I'm therefore thinking that Traffic Cone could be Wynne Evans, the Go Compare man. Quite a few of the clues add up, the voice isn't dissimilar, Back for Good could be a reference to when the ad campaign dropped him and then reinstated him. I can imagine that this show would really appeal to him as a platform for showing off his voice without the obvious baggage. I don't get the Skepta stuff though.
I have an even more leftfield guess for Robobunny. I re-reviewed the list of names I compiled before this series, of people I thought were likely contenders. One of the names was Ken Jeong. I could totally see him making a surprise appearance. It's not a perfect match but some of the clues could relate to some of his films and the jokey type bad voice he did at the beginning of Shallow sounds very like Ken's over-exaggerated Korean accent. Ken is a good singer - the clip of him on South Korea's masked singer singing creep is not a million miles away from some of the notes we've heard Robobunny make, and BTS could be the clue rather than Dynamite? Moreso I imagine that if Ken did do the show, he'd want the most extravagant costume and the most cryptic clue package.
I'm going to continue to ponder those options while simultaneously keeping DH away from my workmates in case he randomly congratulates someone on their TMS guesswork!
