Thread Three here to discuss the red herrings, daft clues, and to swear blind we recognise the voices/kneecaps/hands...

Rob Brydon has done loads of cartoon voices

Also, the voice is similar to his. He sang Islands in the stream in Gavin Stacey

WomanStanleyWoman · 23/01/2022 09:13

She wasn’t one of the Carpenter family, but her character was indeed an apprentice builder (basically an attempt to make her the new Charlene). I think you’re bang on with that guess.

WomanStanleyWoman · 23/01/2022 09:15

Sorry, was a page behind - that was in response to the ‘Panda is Natalie Imbruglia’ theory.

Also, one of the clues was about giving her opinion - she was a judge on either the Australian version of X-Factor or Australia’s Got Talent (can’t remember which).

WeAreTheHeroes · 23/01/2022 09:21

Traffic Cone is definitely Aled Jones - he has a baritone voice, Alexander Armstrong is a bass baritone and not as good a singer by a long way. Plus the clues add up for Aled.

calliecapers · 23/01/2022 09:23

How do the clues add up to Aled?

amusedbush · 23/01/2022 09:34

I’ve just said upthread why I think it’s Matt Lucas as the clues point to him. How do they better add up for Aled, e.g. the clues about sweets and candy? Not being rude, genuinely asking but it’s hard to convey tone Blush
Piggywaspushed · 23/01/2022 09:48

What about all the bad boy stuff and the many references to Skepta? I cannot make that add up to any of our guesses!

OP posts:
APJ1 · 23/01/2022 10:02

^ This is what my pal Google came up with. Skepta and Krept and Konan have collaborated in the past. Gosh, what a long-winded clue if I'm right! www.makesomenoise.com/classic-fm-take-over-capital-xtra-to-make-some-noise/

'And at 3pm, Aled Jones gave a lesson in the history of Jungle and Drum and Bass. To get Aled in the Capital XTRA spirit of things, the team challenged him to take on Krept and Konan’s hit single ‘Freak Of The Week.’'

DashDotCom · 23/01/2022 10:06

Surely traffic cone is Alexander Armstrong? Earlier clue saying the cone shape is relevant = pointless uses a pyramid. Voicing a cartoon, he’s the narrator on Hey Duggee. tennis mentioned a couple of weeks ago and IMDB says he was an actor in a tennis film in 2004. Oh and his 2016 album outsold Skeptas award winning album (called Konnichiwa)

Robobunny definitely sings like mark from Westlife but non of the clues add up for me.. weirdly all the clues seem to add up to Lil Nas X but it actually being him would make no sense at all

APJ1 · 23/01/2022 10:06

@Claymorekick I am sure Panda is Natalie Imbruglia[...]it sounded exacrly like her

You'll never get on to the Masked Singer panel with that kind of sensible logic! Grin

OperationRinka · 23/01/2022 10:08

Pointless doesn't use a pyramid it uses a column.

Yeah she one of the family but I do think she lived with Lou carpenters family maybe that’s the link

Oh yeh you’re right on that one sorry! Remembered it wrong
WeAreTheHeroes · 23/01/2022 10:23

@amusedbush - Aled has been in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and one of the songs is Toot Sweets and his character's love interest is Truly Scrumptious. Last night one of the clues was something about two careers, can't remember exactly what was said, but he's had success as a child chorister and again as an adult.

Aled has also been in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and there was a clue about taking his top off - Joseph is bare-chested in part of the show.

It's him singing 100% - last week was a real giveaway if you have another watch on YouTube.

WeAreTheHeroes · 23/01/2022 10:25

Oh and there were lots of tennis clues in one of the previous shows. He plays tennis as a hobby and has played professional players at pro-celeb challenge at Wimbledon.

amusedbush · 23/01/2022 10:27

@WeAreTheHeroes

Thank you for clarifying, that is really interesting and I didn't know a lot of that. "Back for Good" as his clue song would make sense too if he returned to singing as an adult.

I bloody love this show. I never thought I could be so invested in giant singing mascots Grin

Fetchthevet · 23/01/2022 10:27

Agree Panda sounds like Natalie Imbruglia.

charliebear78 · 23/01/2022 10:27

I didn't really enjoy any of the performances this week much.
I thought Traffic Cone and Doughnut were terrible and Rockhopper screeched her way through what should have been two good songs!( no wonder she didn't do much in Destiny's Child)
I usually have a favourite and this time I am not too bothered-Think Robobunny is the best but Last Night sounded shite!
Sad that Poodle went, is it the double Eviction next week? Probably two better ones will leave again!!!!

WeAreTheHeroes · 23/01/2022 10:34

My other guesses, and I've come round to listen to sense about Panda, are:

Robobunny - Mark from Westlife
Panda - Natalie Imbruglia
Rockhopper - Michelle Williams
Donuts - Michael Owen
Mushroom - Amanda Holden
Firework - not a bloody clue

I do hope they're not lining up Doughnuts to win. MN guessed him straightaway.

Ha ha - I know. First time I saw some of series 1 I found it quite disturbing and thought I'd entered a parallel universe. It's so bonkers it's brilliant. Apart from Rita Ora. She can go.

WeAreTheHeroes · 23/01/2022 10:38

I think some of the actual singers are deliberately singing badly in order to throw us off the scent. It's a bit like Les Dawson's crap piano playing: you have to be really good to be able to also do it so badly.

amusedbush · 23/01/2022 10:38

@charliebear78

I though this was the best Traffic Cone had sounded the competition but I actually agree about Rockhopper. The panel keep waxing lyrical about how good her voice is but I've been convinced the whole way through that she isn't a singer.

I also watch the US version (and the Australian one - what a geek Blush) and Michelle Williams was amazing as Butterfly. Such a beautiful, soulful voice that I had never heard when she was in Destiny's Child. If she is Rockhopper, and the clues certainly point that way, she is doing a good job of disguising her voice. After the US one, she actually said that she didn't disguise her voice enough and that's why the panel guessed her so that makes sense.

charliebear78 · 23/01/2022 11:05

I wouldn't mind watching the American one-where do you watch it?
Were the clues different on there for Michelle?? Surely we would have to use some of the same!
I am going to google Butterfly and have a listen.

amusedbush · 23/01/2022 11:10

@charliebear78

I stream it online but that's not altogether "above board" and some broadband providers block the sites so you might have to dig around online. If you google "watch US masked singer online", it will bring up a few options and you can usually find one that works. I don't want to suggest specific sites and get my post removed!

WeAreTheHeroes · 23/01/2022 11:12

The US version has been on one of the ITV channels so may be available on the ITVHub.
