Just started it this morning and I’m sorry but, the guy playing the sixth former looks about 30 !

Exactly what I thought.Grin

Toothsil · 13/01/2022 10:08

Agreed.

Pinkandpink · 13/01/2022 17:50

Me to, he certainly didn’t look school age

mydogisthebest · 13/01/2022 22:49

Both me and DH commented on how old he looks. The actor is 25 but looks a lot older.

Surely they could have found a younger actor to play the part? It just seems stupid

LondonPainter · 15/01/2022 20:02

And I was so disappointed that Lisa's not in it this season too

Davros · 15/01/2022 22:07

Just started watching. That "lad" looks like he could be the victim's dad, not younger brother. Otherwise enjoying it so far

TrashyPanda · 15/01/2022 23:01

Another one who can’t understand the casting!

Not only does he look at least 40 (and had the wardrobe of an OAP) he is heavyset and the mother and brothers were small and slim.

I wondered if the plot line was dependent on having a deaf actor, but it didn’t. Such peculiar casting that definitely detracted from the story as it was so jarring. I know the actor has won awards, but his acting in this wasn’t particularly good, and certainly not enough to justify him being so totally unsuited for the part.

GoodnightGrandma · 16/01/2022 07:33

Not a fan of the new actress yet, but maybe she will win me over as I learn her story, as there’s obviously something in her past.
I just feel like I knew Lisa and her family, so I could slot back into the programme easily.

Me and DH were wondering if the actor being deaf was part of the story but, as you say, it wasn't. If they particularly wanted him in the show why not have him as the older brother?

It annoyed me the whole way through

GoodnightGrandma · 16/01/2022 09:02

I think him being deaf will be part of the story. The policewoman who can sign a bit will get some vital information from him.

It isn’t (watched the whole thing yesterday)

It’s not intrinsic to the plot in any way. And should have been dumped when they couldn’t get a suitable actor.

TrashyPanda · 16/01/2022 12:13

I liked the new actress, and it was good to have a different family dynamic. Although the boy annoyed me! He was very much the golden child.

timestheyarechanging · 16/01/2022 12:43

I thought this too - what strange casting, he looked older than the eldest son. I'm sure a younger, deaf Asian actor could have been found. I wonder what the actor himself thinks as I understand he's 25.

TrashyPanda · 16/01/2022 12:58

He was probably pleased when he got the role - who wouldn’t be? Big TV series, big part, great publicity and probably good wage.

But he must have realised fairly early on that he looked totally out of place. So much so that it was highly unrealistic.

And in the end, it wasn’t a good fit, he did not come across well in terms of his physicality/body language (was always screwing up his face to portray pain/sorrow/annoyance - very little variation) and probably has done him no favours.

And it’s been the main thing people are talking about, not the actually TV show. And it’s all been negative.

GoodnightGrandma · 16/01/2022 14:07

Oh sorry. I’ve not watched it all.

AnyFucker · 16/01/2022 14:11

I feel sorry for this guy now. He should never have been cast this way.

toomuchlaundry · 16/01/2022 14:13

Maybe they were trying to jump on the bandwagon after Strictly and the use of sign language.

It is odd, he looks so out of place, it’s not like he is a very young looking 25

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 16/01/2022 17:36

He wore a coat most of the time, like Sajid in East is East who was welded to his parka. And then he turned up in a Val Doonican cardigan.

TrashyPanda · 16/01/2022 17:39

He looked like a model for M&S OAP range!

WheresTheBear · 16/01/2022 17:41

Just curious,
I do I I've needed to watch the others to watch this series?

EIIa · 16/01/2022 17:41

😂😂😭😭 @trashypanda

They’ve started using normal prooor for modelling - of course men only 🙄🙄🙄🙄

EIIa · 16/01/2022 17:42

People dammit!!

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 16/01/2022 17:43

@WheresTheBear

No. Different lead actor and sidekick.

They're worth watching though. One of the team left unexpectedly in the second series and I've never forgiven the writers for that.

WheresTheBear · 16/01/2022 17:51

@ImJustMadAboutSaffron

Thanks, I may give it a go.

I think I watched the first series, which is why I don't want to rewatch it

Ps...well done at figuring out what I was trying to ask...fat fingers and auto correct got in the way i think

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/01/2022 15:44

He didn't look like his brothers but I invigilate GCSEs and have seen year 11 boys who look that old, sometimes with full beards. Others look like little boys.
