I am looking for shows like Jonathan Creek /Death in paradise/McDonald and Dodds/the one based in New Zealand I’ve forgotten the name of etc.

I like things were the case is Solved and wrapped up within the episode. I have tried things like Line of Duty but didn’t enjoy it so am looking for things as described above.

There must be more out there that I haven’t tried!

I enjoyed Shakespeare and Hathaway on iplayer (though you do have to go along with it a bit), also like Father Brown, Elementary and Strike.

Clarissa76 · 08/01/2022 17:19

Rosemary and Thyme?

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 08/01/2022 17:19

Another vote for Shakespeare and Hathaway - really easy watching.

devildeepbluesea · 08/01/2022 17:22

I love Shakespeare and Hathaway, and Rosemary and Thyme.

Also - Agatha Raisin? Hamish Macbeth at a push as well...

Bonnealle · 08/01/2022 17:33

Diagnosis Murder, Murder She Wrote, Midsummer Murders, London Kills, Whitstable Pearl, The Majorca Files, Queens of Mystery, Poirot, Miss Marple, Cracker, Taggart, Prime Suspect, Agatha Raisin - so many out there. Get a free Acorn TV trial.

Vera and Father Brown are firm favourites in our house. Montalbano is a couple of hours long and in Italian with subtitles, but is terrific. It is all in iPlayer so can be paused!

PatriotCanes · 08/01/2022 20:35

Granchester is basically Father Brown but with an Anglican priest.
Vera, The Long Call, Shetland - although some of the Shetlands are over more than one episode.

Acunningruse · 12/01/2022 11:29

The Coroner with Claire Goose
Agatha Raisin (though they are 2 hours long)
Silent witness

Ariela · 12/01/2022 12:07

I loved The Coronor as @Acunningruse suggests.

We like Montalbano because the scenery is stunning and I do love the sound of the Italian language. I have to say, though, the plots are all over the place! We watched episode 36 the other night, which is apparently the second last one ever made. Haven't seen the very last one, don't know if it's on the BBC yet. Anyway, #36 was utterly ludicrous. As far as I could make out, Inspector Montalbano was asked to look at a man's old home movies because his son was puzzled that he kept filming the same section of wall year after year. Hmm

Still watch them, though!

The Brokenwood Mysteries?

notacooldad · 14/01/2022 12:53

The Mallorca Files?
I havent watched it but Dh watches it.

cosmopolitanplease · 14/01/2022 12:56

We love Father Brown, we even visited the village where it is filmed last year and went in the church! Sadly there was no sign of padre. Sad

Glitterygreen · 14/01/2022 13:00

Lewis is a fave of mine, also enjoyed Sherlock.

I also really enjoyed Hinterland (on Netflix) - it has an overarching storyline but is also a crime investigated per episode if I remember correctly.

PS. I love Jonathan Creek, wish they made more episodes when it was good instead of changing his career and giving him a wife!

hivemindneeded · 14/01/2022 13:17

Endeavour?

Morse?

Midsummer Murders?

Poirot?

Not exactly true that Granchester is Father Brown just Anglican. It also has James Norton in it which is a fairly high level of eye candy.

Monk?

BeyondMyWits · 14/01/2022 14:54

Another fan of Father Brown, Elementary, Sherlock, and Agatha Raisin

McGintyii · 14/01/2022 14:54

Another Father Brown fan here, there are loads of them too!

VanGoghsDog · 14/01/2022 14:55

The only one of those suggestions that is like the ones the OP listed is Shakespeare and Hathaway.

There was a thing years ago that I lived that was about a con man on some tropical island, with mysteries, it was funny and engaging but I really can't remember what it was called.

The Mallorca Files is a bit similar but it loses the comedy element after about two episodes.

iklboo · 14/01/2022 14:55

Yes to Father Brown. DS(16) & I watch it together in the afternoons. Nice, gentle viewing (murders aside), sometimes quite funny.
