Anyone watching? I'm onto episode 5 and I'm enjoying it, though I'm sure there's been no Miss Fix in other adaptations I've seen, and I'm also sure an Indian princess figured in it at some point!

Only seen three so far but yes I am finding it good fun.

Tumbleweed101 · 03/01/2022 16:55

I've just binge watched them over last few days and really enjoyed it. I haven't read the book or seen other adaptations so dont know how it compares with those but light and enjoyable watch.

Bitofachinwag · 03/01/2022 17:06

It's probably better if you haven't read the book!

SkippettyDoDah · 03/01/2022 22:08

Very entertaining! The music reminds me a lot of Sherlock.

I like the music too but the clock chime makes me think they're about to cross to the BBC newsroom!

I really like the credits and thought the music was very like Sherlock, but Around the World is Hans Zimmer and Sherlock is David Arnold.

Acunningruse · 04/01/2022 17:32

Really enjoyed the first two episodes but thought the third contained very adult themes, loved having to explain to our 5 and 9yo what a whore is Confused

KillingMeDeftly · 04/01/2022 17:49

@Acunningruse I did some Googling after that episode and the Lady Jane actually did live such an extraordinary life!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/01/2022 07:34

yes i am enjoying it

Mamathulu · 05/01/2022 21:28

We've binged it all and we all loved it (me, DH and DD(23)). I might have to have a google myself, now, @KillingMeDeftly!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/01/2022 06:25

the episode i have just seen david tennant is definitely being David Niven ! Grin

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 06/01/2022 06:31

I absolutely loved this! I was so please when they put the remaining episodes on IPlayer last weekend, and watched them all that night.

It's not a genre I would usually go for and I hadn't read the book or seen any previous adaptations either, but I have recommended it repeatedly this week.

It took the book somewhat loosely.

Yes there was an Indian princess in the book and I seem to remember they saved her from sharing a funeral pyre with her husband, not particularly suitable for prime time viewing.

Absolutely loved the adaptation finished it on iPlayer last night.

He does it very well though!
KillingMeDeftly · 06/01/2022 11:28

I remember the Indian princess in the 50s film being played by that very famous Indian actress...Shirley MacLaine!

It reminds me of the RDJr films of Sherlock and that was Hans Zimmer. He’s always excellent.

Love the real life Jane Digby - what a woman! And so many tragedies as her children died. I want a whole series about her now!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/01/2022 14:58

Loving it! To the extent that I'm not even streaming it to prolong the delight.

It's very loosely based on the book - but Lady Ellacot (spelling) is real and had the most amazing life - for any woman in any era. Good for her!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/01/2022 15:01

Of course, the best interpretation was the cartoon (80 Days Around the World with Willy Fog)

www.80scartoons.co.uk/aroundworld.php

Hd the best theme tune ever - all the kids in the area used to sing it on eat way to school - it was brilliant.

Rather sorry that DT isn't dressing in a lion suit . Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/01/2022 15:02

*the, not eat

Maverickess · 06/01/2022 15:10

Really enjoyed it, not my usual genre but I like DT so thought I'd give it a go, not read the book or seen other adaptations though so I don't know how they compare, my knowledge was limited to the crisps!

Sideswiped · 07/01/2022 22:11

It's fabulous! It's really gripped me.
David Tennant is really owning his role. I agree there was no Miss Fix in the original, but I like the slightly woke twist.
I've just watched episode 4, so not too many spoilers please! Smile

thegreylady · 07/01/2022 23:04

Best tv I have seen for ages. We ended up binge watching after the first two episodes as we didn’t want to wait.

Justkeeppedaling · 08/01/2022 00:34

We laughed when Fogg threw a match into the pool of oil - that oil would burn for 100 years or more!!

We're enjoying it too, and I'd recommend the book to anyone who hasn't read it.

CrossPurposes · 08/01/2022 10:38

I like having Miss Fix. I think she must be inspired by Nellie Bly who did her own circumnavigation of the world in 1889/90. I think that would make an interesting TV series.

OnceUponAWhine · 08/01/2022 16:32

Really enjoyed it, binged across a few nights last week- first TV drama of this scale that DS8 has watched with us all the way through, he absolutely loved it (mind blown when I said it was a book first) The music was great and yes, very Sherlock.
