Did any one watch it.
Is it true to the original?
I have vague memories of the film, think david niven was in it.

Loved it. Looking forward to the next one. My DS 12 asked me to put an alarm in my phone so we don't miss it!

ShopElf · 26/12/2021 22:16

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Foolsrule · 26/12/2021 22:17

Best thing I’ve watched this Xmas.

IcedPurple · 26/12/2021 22:18

Turned if off after about 15 minutes. Mind you, I can't stand David Tennant so that might be it.

Notonthestairs · 26/12/2021 22:23

Agree it was the best thing we watched over this weekend. DH (who generally avoids telly) and DS (who has the attention span of a kitten) asked if all the episodes were available!

Samcro · 26/12/2021 22:26

We enjoyed it

Loved it will definitely be watching the rest of the series

Egghead68 · 26/12/2021 22:54

I was disappointed. Some really cheap looking scene and backdrops and a very slow start.

SkepticalCat · 26/12/2021 23:32

Not at all true to the original book (hot air balloon is very briefly discussed as a method of crossing the Atlantic, but is quickly dismissed, so the "iconic" balloon in around the world in 80 days doesn't actually happen).

Fix is a police detective in the book, not a journalist.

I've only watched the first episode so far, but the jury is out for me.

Bloodypunkrockers · 26/12/2021 23:53

Loved it

Even DD who is generally uninterested in anything like this, was glued to it

KimikosNightmare · 27/12/2021 02:32

I fast forwarded it on iplayer. It's pointless.

Caught episode 2 on Sunday and throughly enjoyed it. If I read the original it would have been a long time ago so can't say if it's true to the book, but loved the characters and how the story unfolded. At the end just wanted the next episode. It'll be a long wait to next Sunday.

Mooserp · 27/12/2021 10:07

I hadn't seen any trailers for it, was expecting something comical so was disappointed.

Has a touch of Doctor Who and his companions about it

Hmm, the balloon is actually not from the original Jules Verne book, but appears in the David Niven movie from the 50s afaik.

I also get why they needed to add a strong female character in the journalist, I don't mind that change at all.

I'm watching with interest how it develops.

PangolinPie · 27/12/2021 10:18

I thought it was great. Don't usually like David Tennant. Just the thing for this time of year.

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 27/12/2021 10:44

It didn't grab us - we switched it off after about 20 minutes.

I'm not a David Tennant fan - barely know who he is!

HoyaSaxa · 27/12/2021 10:57

I thought it was great. I was expecting a slightly rubbish slapstick version like the Steve Coogan film, but I thought it was pretty thoughtful.

Weepingwillows12 · 27/12/2021 11:00

Would you say it's ok for a 6 and 8 year old or more for older kids? Trying to work out whether to watch together later or not

NewBeta · 27/12/2021 14:53

Oh we loved it! I agree re dr who - but then I love that as well.

dalrympy · 28/12/2021 17:34

I loved it! But then I do like David Tennent!

itrytomakemyway · 28/12/2021 19:10

David Tennant is an excellent actor. I don't even like Dr Who, but he made that worth watching. I would have loved to have seen him in Hamlet. I loved Casanova.

I really enjoyed it - in fact I think it was the best thing on TV this Christmas. Yes, it is not exactly true to the book but I think it is the better for it. I loved that they rewrote it to have a woman in a strong role.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 29/12/2021 08:29

loved it, love david tennant anyway.

StoopitAutocarrot · 29/12/2021 21:44

Catching up now, the violence is more than I was expecting!

DrWankincense · 29/12/2021 21:47

Quite enjoying it so far but not a patch on the cartoon version with Willy Fog Grin.

MyOtherProfile · 29/12/2021 22:10

Not true to the book. I'd say loosely based on.

It's quite interesting but I'm a bit irritated by some of the meanderings.
