Previous thread

Jus in case anybody wants to chat any further about the last series and/or Christmas special.

There's also something pleasing about having 21 threads for the 21st series! We do chat a lot. I really enjoy it though, watching along with you lot definitely adds to the fun. Glitterball

And Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everybody! Xmas Smile

OP posts:

Merry Christmas and happy new year to you too @PolkadotsAndMoonbeams - thanks for the threads and the chats Grin

DeegeeDee · 26/12/2021 11:59

Thanks as always @PolkadotsAndMoonbeams and others for the threads, chats, memes, links, gossip and overall niceness to us newcomers. Look forward to doing it all again in 2022.

I watched the special late last night for the first time and thought Moira was funny telling Shakira her hips didn't lie and it was a graceful slowed down dance with Aljaz who danced down to her level as pp said. Liked Annemarie fangirling, Mel's knowing nods and Street 'dance' - wonder what Vanilla would have said seeing it.

Trained well by the schedule as thought it was later than it was by the time I had watched the Wheel and BB afterwards.

xsquared · 26/12/2021 12:08

Thank you for the thread @PolkadotsAndMoonbeams.

I don't usually watch the Christmas special but happened to yesterday after Mary Poppins. Anne Marie was very good and I think she should do the main series.

Moira looked a bit drunk but clearly enjoyed herself.

I like Mel, but wish they'd done a ballroom or Latin dance rather than street. I think Couple's Vhoice should be dropped.

Clawdy · 26/12/2021 12:21

I'd like to see Jay on the main series, think he would try really hard.

SilverRingahBells · 26/12/2021 12:29

I thought Jay was utterly lacking in natural talent. He just stopped moving between steps. Nice bloke and he seemed genuinely thrilled by the message from David Jason, so that's nice.

On the subject of fame, I think the key to Strictly's success is the balance. DD has never heard of Moira Stuart, but thought Anne Marie was a huge signing and very impressed by Mel being on it because Bake Off is huge with her generation. My DP's had never heard of Anne Marie or Fred but said "Ooh!" about Moira and Jay (Repair Shop is big with the over sixties). DH tuned in for Adrian Chiles and Mel. Of the five people here, we all had two people to root for.

iklboodolphrednosedpaindear · 26/12/2021 12:30

Hello everyone. Hope you had a lovely Christmas Day.

Mel made me smile but I deliberately didn't look at Neil because he makes me irrationally angry.

Anne-Marie was very good & seemed very down to Earth. I agree she'd be great in the main show.

I loved Jay's enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. He always comes across so lovely.

Moira was like your gran on Christmas Day - having a great time with a nice young man.

Adrian, bless him, looked like a bloodhound in tails who'd been enchanted into being human.

Fred was good fun & very twinkly-eyed. I think he'd be good on the main show too.

Have a great Boxing Day y'all and a very Happy New Year.

JacquelineCarlyle · 26/12/2021 14:11

That's a perfect description of Adrian @iklboodolphrednosedpaindear

(Sorry for the loss of your dad - hope you managed to have a nice Christmas as I'm sure he'd have wanted you to).

iklboodolphrednosedpaindear · 26/12/2021 14:21

@JacquelineCarlyle - thank you. We had a nice day thanks. Raised a few toasts to dad. He wouldn't have wanted us to be miserable, even though we're very sad.

JacquelineCarlyle · 26/12/2021 14:28

Glad you had a nice day - no doubt very sad for you all but I'm sure he absolutely wouldn't want you to be miserable, especially at Christmas.

CaveMum · 26/12/2021 15:43

Marking my spot.

SOLINVICTUS · 26/12/2021 15:47

Haven't seen it yet but will catch it in due course.
Thanks for all the threads and banter this season all. Brew

StoopitAutocarrot · 27/12/2021 04:29

Was it Adrian who danced to some dreadful slowed down version of a song? That needed extra lyrics adding in to keep some sort of momentum going?

Judges marks for everyone were generous, but Anne Marie was the stand out.

Mel was out-gurning Neil.

ppeatfruit · 27/12/2021 08:58

Polka You're the best (such dedication to the cause of our chats!!!) Thanks so much and I hope you all had as LOVELY A CHRISTMAS as possible in these difficult times!

Oh but I'm going to start with controversy I effin LOVE Neil!!! He's fun, he's a very good dancer but also doesn't take himself seriously.

I enjoyed the Christmas one too. Blimey they must THROW money at the production.

Did anyone see the Nutcracker last night ? Now that's serious!!!!! Amazing girl as the Sugar Plum. The boy wasn't bad either.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 27/12/2021 14:04

I also love Neil 💕

IReallyLikeCrows · 27/12/2021 17:02

I hope everyone had something approaching a happy Christmas, mine was quiet and calm and included Prosecco that wasn't just Prosecco but M&S prosecco. I can highly recommend it, it's rather lush.

I only caught the last dance of the night, the lovely Mel and was pretty shocked that it got 40 but I did really enjoy it. When they showed the bits of what everyone else had danced it seemed right and proper that Anne-Marie won. I've enjoyed her on celebrity Gogglebox so fair pay to her.

I've had a lovely autumn/winter with you all so I'd like to say thank you so much for that and thank you @PolkadotsAndMoonbeams for starting the threads with such great thread titles. You're a star!

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 27/12/2021 17:40

It really is goodbye now, isn’t it? 🥲
Great fun, as always- and yes, a special thanks to you, Polka, for all the threads.
Happy New Year, everyone. See you all again next series.

I really like Neil too Wink

Elderflower14 · 27/12/2021 21:24

Just to say two things... 1. My lovely next door neighbour has bought tickets for my Christmas present for us to go and see Giovanni dance next year on his tour.

  1. I've enjoyed posting on the SCD dancing thread and thought it was nice and welcoming... However thanks for someone being kind enough to alert me to another site... There has been a complete bitchfest on there ripping me and my family apart and particularly mentioning when I comment on the SCD thread so I no longer feel welcome on here sadly... I think I may go for new years name change too... I feel rather sad that some people can be absolute Class A bitches.. 😔 😔 😔 😔
JacquelineCarlyle · 27/12/2021 21:28

I've no idea what's gone on @Elderflower14 but hope you're ok.

Elderflower14 · 27/12/2021 21:31

No... I'm really not okay actually... The people on the other site were vindictive and nasty and made unforgivable comments about my family and I... 😔 😔
They say it on there as they sure as hell couldn't say it on here...

Elderflower14 · 27/12/2021 21:35

@JacquelineCarlyle

I've no idea what's gone on *@Elderflower14* but hope you're ok.
Have sent you a DM
JacquelineCarlyle · 27/12/2021 22:12

I've just read that - I'm not on Reddit so never aware of what goes on there. All I would say is ignore - I know it's hurtful and not nice, but you can't control what others do and say, so the best thing to do is ignore. I don't even think it's helpful to know that discussion is ongoing - ignorance is bliss (it's different if you need to take action or can stop it, but when you can't, ignoring is always my policy).

coastergirl · 27/12/2021 22:18

@Elderflower14 I am mostly a lurker on here, but I occasionally post. I've really enjoyed your posts and always look out for them. I love hearing about Wilf. I work with children with autism and other SEN. My little boy is about to be diagnosed with autism and he loves Strictly. We love watching it together, so your posts really resonate with me. I'm so sorry that somebody has been horrible about you and your family, but let me tell you this. The problem is with them, not you! I really hope you don't stop posting. Take care x

IReallyLikeCrows · 27/12/2021 22:29

I'm really sorry that that's happened to you @Elderflower14. People can be such arseholes when they're typing on a screen and acting like Billy big bollocks. You're lovely and so are your family, so although it's hard, try not to let it get to you. Life's too short to let sad, pathetic losers get to you.

IReallyLikeCrows · 27/12/2021 22:32

This year, when I've seen the Chanel No.5 advert, the one where Marion Cotillard looks up at the sky and then dances on the moon with a chap, I find myself thinking that I want to see someone do a couple's choice using that dance as their inspiration. Well, basically I want them to do all of that dance and then stretch out their minute and a half with some other stuff. It makes me happy.

JacquelineCarlyle · 27/12/2021 22:35

I agree @IReallyLikeCrows and I also want someone to do the Charleston dance from
It's a Wonderful Life with that music. I'd love to see that!
