Strictly - Please keep Anton not Bruno

Light hearted! In the small hope that the BBC monitor MN threads for feedback (maybe not) I hereby issue a plea to keep Anton and his sensible critiques and insider knowledge over the incredibly irritating and OTT Bruno.

Come at me Tonioli fans but I have enjoyed this series SO much more without his leaping and shouting and ridiculous attention seeking. He can stay in America for good as far as I'm concerned.

Completely agree, Anton has been an excellent judge and I'll be really disappointed if he's not judging again next year. I've not missed Bruno at all. I liked Cynthia too.

I have met them both in real life through work and would vote for Bruno. He's exactly the same in real life except swears like a sailor. Incredibly passionate and professional. Anton was a bit... handsy. Definitely the consummate showman though and agree, he has been great as a judge.

I'd like Anton to stay as long as he sticks to the technical critique which he does, IMO, better than Shirley, and stops with the daftness that he only seemed to start about half way through. The "oo-er missus" stuff. That took him into Bruno territory.
I think the 4 judges this year made a more complete team. Bruno and Motsi I find very similar in commentary.
I'd also welcome any of the original professionals back as judges. Erin, Ian, or Karen Hardy would be great, James or Brendan would be very good telly.

I couldn't stand Anton as a dancer and really didn't want him to become a judge but he's my favourite judge now. He made me sob when he got all emotional over Rose. I've heard he's not a very nice person though so he must be a very good actor!

I didn’t like Anton as a dancer. I thought he was very rude in the way he laughed about some of his partners in a way I have never seen any other professional do. But I agree he’s much better as a judge and I prefer him to the over the top version of Bruno we’ve had the past few years. My husband likes Bruno though and finds him funny.

Love Anton as a judge , Bruno wasn’t funny, just annoying and while Motsi is fabulous to look at her critiques were a bit meh.

I have loved Anton as judge and was so glad when he got the job. If Bruno returned, it would ruin Strictly for me. This year has been the best on SCD, mainly due to my John/Johannes love but also due to the absence of Bruno.

My friend and I were chatting about this last week over drinks and we both love Anton. He is fair with his judging.
I really like Craig too and I am getting fed up the pantomime booing from the audience when he says anything perceived as negative. What's the point of dancers being told everything they do is fabulous, darling, and not learning and improving each week?
Motsi is a fun judge, and whilst I do like Shirley I find her a bit too fawning of some people.

Yes we definitely need to keep Craig. All those 10s in the Semi Finals were bonkers! At least when Craig gives a 10 it means something.

(I would love to see Iain W and James J judging but that doesn’t look as though it is ever going to happen.)

The 9s and 10s being flapped about early doors about isn’t right.

Oh yes please let's keep Bruno and his self-important antics away and let's keep Anton AND Craig. I'm not too bothered about Motsi (she's so loud). Shirley is much better than when she began but Karen Harding would be a great replacement. 🌹

Like many PP I didn’t like Anton as a dancer/coach at all, I felt that he wrote off “unpromising” partners whereas pros like Aljaz and Gio actually put effort into training their less athletic partners.

But I have loved him as a judge, he’s struck a great balance of technical advice and emotional response.

I much prefer Anton, I like his technical analysis.

When I heard that Bruno normally flies back and forth to the US each week I did think that that was incredibly bad for the environment and we should really not be encouraging such behaviour.

Another one who loved Anton this year, and also love Craig. Happy to have Motsi on the panel for her incredible style. Could take or leave Shirley. I wouldn’t mind having Bruno back but not at the expense of Anton.

And absolutely agree with comment above about getting rid of couple’s choice. As much as I adored Rose’s couple’s choice this year they are generally over-sentimental and over-marked.

Anton - didn’t like him as a pro and din’t expect to like him as a judge, but I DO!

Craig is by far the best judge, the most consistent and a 10 from him is still very special. Craig should be Head Judge.

I like Shirley and Bruno and M’busty but would prefer Len, Darcy and Arlene. Would also love to see some former pros have a role, Iain Waite and Brendan especially!

Actually, this thread is making me realise that probably part of the reason I dismissed the show until maybe last year or the year before, was that I didn’t care for the judges. I think the tone must be different now? Not sure. Something’s definitely changed, which has turned it into unmissable TV. (And I don’t even own a TV so I’m pretty choosy.)

Agreed. Antonio is funny but it's natural. None of this dancing around throwing his arms about stuff that Bruno does. Leave him in America.

I definitely like Anton more than Bruno - his comments are always constructive... even when he goes a bit "Frank Spencer" he is still giving good feedback.

One thing I would love even more for next year would be if they decided on a marking scheme with quantifiable targets and stuck to it. So that way we wouldn't have dances where one judge is giving it a 4 and another is giving it an 8 and not being made to justify their decision ... eg 1= contains almost no steps, went totally wrong, no content; 5= basic content, X amount of "specialist steps", kept in time but still some big technical errors; 10 = practically perfect, at most a few tiny errors but no major steps missed, high level of technical content and difficulty
