What Christmas Telly are you looking forward to?

I had a look at what's coming up and there only thing I'm looking forward to is that Argyle Scandal drama and Graham Norton on New Year's Eve.

When I was younger it seemed that there was always a couple of high quality drama adaptations to look forward, Christmas Specials of current popular series (including successful documentaries of that year) and a couple of blockbuster films finally making it to the small screen.

I can't think if Christmas TV has got worse. Is it because everyone (like me) has switched their viewing to the less seasonal streamed services?

Call the midwife christmas day!

MatchsticksForMyEyesReturns · 19/12/2021 08:17

The Girl Before, because I read the book and enjoyed it. A few old films during the afternoons. Nothing at all on Christmas day.

GoodnightGrandma · 19/12/2021 08:17

Call The Midwife and Death In Paradise, and all the Corries.

TopCatsTopHat · 19/12/2021 08:19

New Julia Donaldson adaptation on bbc xmas day with the kids, Superworm. 😆

JoyOrbison · 19/12/2021 08:22

The new Ghosts Christmas Special! Love love love Ghosts, Jennifer Saunders in this one as Lady Button's mother in some flashback scenes.

Shaun the sheep last flight of the reindeer.

Otherwise it will be Christmas dross on TV.

HollyChristmas · 19/12/2021 08:28

The usual . Call the Midwife , All Creatures great and Small , I enjoy The celebrity Sewing Bee , and we always watch Eastenders ( even if it is to laugh at the ' disaster ' that has been unfolding in the previous week or so )

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 19/12/2021 08:35

@JoyOrbison Ghosts for me too! I absolutely love it and can't wait.

Ubiquery · 19/12/2021 08:36

Hmm. Looks like it might be me and my viewing habits. For example, I went off CtMW years ago and never got in to that new All Creatures.

Only Superworm. Other than that the viewing schedule looks epically bad!
I’m more looking forward to new series’ in the new year. The Tourist looks good and Peaky Blinders is back.

Ubiquery · 19/12/2021 08:55

Thank you! The Tourist does look good!

So bloody excited about Ghosts. I have no idea what else is on- is there anything Agatha Christie-ish?

greatape · 19/12/2021 09:19

I haven't looked properly yet but Ghosts, a very British scandal and 80 days around the world are the 3 things I've seen trailers for. Adore Ghosts it's our family favourite.

Also all creatures great and small - is it the wedding?

I think A Very British Scandal is this years version of the 'big' adult high production value drama this year isn't it? No Agatha.

Am hoping for some good films

SpeckledFrogsLog · 19/12/2021 09:27

The Amazing Mr Blunden! It was my absolute favourite Christmas movie as a child and I'm so excited it's been remade by Mark Gatiss!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/12/2021 17:39

The Mezzotint

Christmas Eve ghost story by Mark Gatiss and starring Rory Kinnear Xmas Grin

upaladderagain · 19/12/2021 17:42

Definitely Shaun the Sheep, and West Side Story. Love the music but never seen the film and am hoping to see the Spielberg version soon, Omicron permitting.

sweatervest · 19/12/2021 18:06

i cannot WAIT to see misery (again).

there's some celebrity masterchef things which i love
other than that i have hardly put a big fat hairy circle around ANYTHING in the tv guide (in case you were wondering)

PlanetNormal · 19/12/2021 18:11

The Boxing Day Test Match in Melbourne starts at 23:30 GMT on Xmas day. Despite the likelihood of 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 getting hammered yet again, it’s the only thing I’m looking forward to watching.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 19/12/2021 18:13

Superworm.

I teach year R 😁

maddiemookins16mum · 19/12/2021 18:18

The Amazing Mr Blunden on Sky.

SickAndTiredAgain · 19/12/2021 18:21

The scandal thing you mentioned, plus the girl before.

David tennant is in around the world in 80 days and I always think he’s good so will at least give that a go as well.

Bloodypunkrockers · 19/12/2021 18:30

All creatures great and small. Just seen the trailer.

And can't wait for Ghosts.

Bohemond · 19/12/2021 18:33

There’s a new series of Emily in Paris…..vacuous but fun

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/12/2021 19:30

Aside from The Queen, I will be rewatching my recordings of Peter Ustinov as Hercule Poirot. I might give the Jules Verne a go on Boxing Day...

Eredoor · 19/12/2021 21:45

Eastenders, Christmas Strictly and The Tourist

Puffinhead · 19/12/2021 21:58

@JoyOrbison

The new Ghosts Christmas Special! Love love love Ghosts, Jennifer Saunders in this one as Lady Button's mother in some flashback scenes.

Shaun the sheep last flight of the reindeer.

Otherwise it will be Christmas dross on TV.

This is exactly my choice too.
