Just as well, as they seem to have lost all of the ones under 9...

Nice retrospective on Katya - glossed over Seann Walsh, which was to be expected.

Each year there are people I don't take to at the beginning and often I get over myself and see the good in them. It certainly happened with Tilly although never with her partner whose name I have currently forgotten. I worried that Rhys would be another Karim but he wasn't at all and I warmed to him almost immediately

And. Each year there are a couple who I like or want to like and gradually they wear me down and I am happy to see them go

This is me, too. It’s one of the things I love about watching the show - every year someone I have never previously heard of before grabs me with their skill/attitude/personality.

This year I was all set to love Adam Peaty as I’m a big follower of swimming and, obviously, he’s such an extraordinary achiever in the sport. I really like Katya too. But I found their partnership just didn’t gel, and all his hard work meant he could never just relax into his performances - they got more stilted and I realised he was never going to get to a big transformative dance.

AJ on the other hand I didn’t know at all. Her Week 1 jive made me sit up and take notice, and by the time she and Kai danced to The Bodyguard in Movie Week I realised that hers was one of the performances I was most looking forward to each week. Now I love her enthusiasm and hard work, her Lancashire accent, her chemistry with Kai and her amazing dances. I will positively look out for projects she’s involved in now - she’s such a talent and I love her for all her attributes.

I usually love this thread but it’s taken a bit of a turn, all these accusations of conspiracy theories, the bbc pushing a political agenda, accusations of a “woke” final, a black woman being too loud, the bbc keeping in someone cos he’s gay etc etc.

It’s all got a bit unpleasant and daily mail-esque. Can’t we go back to discussing someone’s beautiful lines, reposting the time that Mark Rampakash got tangled up in Karen’s mic and discussing whether the best show dance was Caroline and Pasha or DVO like James Jordan says it is?

JanisMoplin · 13/12/2021 19:45

I fell down a rabbithole of Argentine tangos I have known and loved.

Some of them:
Kevin and Frankie

Kevin and Louise:

Oti and the divine Danny Mac, who was robbed, yes of course he was.

Gio and Debbeh

JacquelineCarlyle · 13/12/2021 19:56

I agree @ShirleyPhallus

Maireas · 13/12/2021 19:58

Thank goodness Dan is out, there was a lot of unpleasantness about him every week.

SoupDragon · 13/12/2021 20:01

My "dislike" of AJ"s loudness had nothing to do with her sex or colour.

I often find these threads somewhat unpleasant and usually hide them between shows. Which I'm going to do now.

lollipoprainbow · 13/12/2021 20:05

So we aren't allowed to find someone loud and annoying in case we are seen as sexist and racist !! No doubt AJ and her foghorn voice will be in every tv show now.

Sunbird24 · 13/12/2021 20:11

I just made myself emotional watching Faye & Joe V’s Charleston. I blame hormones!

ChessieFL · 13/12/2021 20:21

I like Simon Webbe’s Argentine Tango with Kristina Rhianoff, to Roxanne.

BasiliskStare · 13/12/2021 20:27

@ShirleyPhallus - I think I have specifically said my only point about Aj is that her voice is too loud for me personally at times ( my opinion - mine only nothing else about her do I find annoying)

  • nothing else about her. Nothing to do with her colour or upbringing or anything else - I just find she can have a shouty voice. But as I have said she does seemed to have moderated it.

If someone wants to say I don't like AJ's decibels because of any other thing other than the decibels - pistols at dawn

Shall we get back to chatting ?

Completely agree, sadly yet another thread brought down by unpleasant posts.

@SoupDragon

I went from wanting her out as soon as possible to wanting her in the final.
SNAP!!! Grin

One of my favourites!
SchadenfreudePersonified · 13/12/2021 20:49

a black woman being too loud

You are reading too much into some comments. Remarks about AJ being to loud had nothing to do with her sex or her colour, and everything to do with the fact that she was very SHOUTY!

I also thought "I can't listen to her yelling week in week out", but I think she is less loud now - and also I love her because she is so full of joy and such a good dancer.

Lovely exit interview. Rhys thanked Nancy for helping him shine/putting him at the forefront of their dances. cough Johannes cough Nancy was very thankful for where they got to. Tissues all round.

Seemslikeagoodidea · 14/12/2021 02:52

@IntermittentParps

This is purely political - BBC wanted a same-sex couple in the final. That's conspiracy-theory nonsense. Do you really think all three judges would go along with that? (even if the producers or whoever you think the overlords are DID want this). The three of the judges who did the saving all looked genuinely thoughtful/conflicted as they gave their reasons for who they were voting for. I love Craig et al to bits, but they're not THAT good at acting.
@IntermittentParps When you put it like that, maybe I was mistaken... I'm in two minds about it now, but anyway we'll never know.

I love Rose and Giovanni - what a lovely pair they make. He seems quite smitten with her... lots of kisses and hugs, watching her intently and hanging on her every word. In some ways it seems like a kind of brotherly love, at other times it seems to be more than that... or maybe that is just my wishful thinking - my Rose tinted glasses! Grin

All the finalists are great dancers, I'm looking forward to the final.

It's funny, I was never really convinced that Nancy and Rhys gelled well together then a few weeks ago something just seemed to click. Or maybe it was just once other couples dropped off and we saw a bit more of them I don't know but they definitely seem to get on really well.
