Just as well, as they seem to have lost all of the ones under 9...

@chillied

Start time tonight is 7pm, not 7.10 btw
On the electronic listing it says 7.10 The magazine says 7.00, but it may have had 10 mins shaved off.
FuzzyPuffling · 18/12/2021 16:56

What would make the evening for me would be AJ joining this thread and chatting along with all of us. And maybe Kai too...?

She was my favourite and I don't care who wins now. But I do think she will be the one who is remembered as "something different happened to her" - after all, who can name all the past winners?

SequinsandStiIettos · 18/12/2021 17:11

Why would anyone think that he had any bad feeling about the show anyway?
because tabloids slagged him and Nina.

Nina Wadia slams 'harsh' Craig Revel Horwood and Strictly 'marking system' over early exit

Slams?
What she actually said:
“You can’t give someone like me a three when I tried so hard at something so technically difficult, then give someone else who had a bit of a mistake a seven just because they looked good.”

Robert Webb brands show as brutal and weird
Brands?
What he actually said:
“You turn up and there is this reality to it. There is always a camera and there is a camera in the rehearsal room.
And it is unnatural as an actor as you want to be in this headspace where you are all trusting each other and you can do it wrong and be bad in front of your fellow actors and the director and it does not matter without getting cancelled. Like in the theatre you have press night and we are always doing the first show and it will be the worst show.
The actors know this will be the worst performance except at the end of that performance [Strictly] you might get fired. It is brutal. It is an absolutely weird show.”

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/12/2021 17:16

Representation is important. Of course it is.

And yes about validation. But for the hard work and sweat and tears to reach the glittery heights.

Is it a show people go on to find acceptance? Not for me it hasn’t been. I can’t say I think of Strictly like that.

I would just like it to be about dancing. And seeing the celebrities shine.

It just seems to be that what shouldn’t even matter is being made to matter and I think that the highlighting of differences does not necessarily facilitate acceptance.

There have been some unfair accusations on this thread that have spoiled it for me.

If someone says they don’t like someone/something it has on occasion been made out to be something it isn’t about at all.

Sometimes, after a day that has been tragic or hard or too long or too frustrating I just want to watch people swirl about looking joyful or all loved up or dramatic on a dance floor.

Likewise reading the mostly wonderful comments on these threads.

It is my escape.

Strictlyfanoftenyears · 18/12/2021 17:19

To be fair, that sounds a bit arsey too:
“You turn up and there is this reality to it. There is always a camera and there is a camera in the rehearsal room.

In reality , the amount of training that you get and publicity for doing it (plus the pay), I dont think its a bad way to spend 2/3 months.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/12/2021 17:19

And as for Robert and Nina? I think the stirring press have swirled the pot and massively so.

I don’t think he sounded arsey in his statement at all 🤷‍♀️

SunshineCake1 · 18/12/2021 17:21

I always thought it was silly of the producers to not miss an elimination when Robert dropped out. It was always going to be that someone would drop out later, be it covid or injury and then going from four to three in the final would be okay. Just two just isn't the same. There would be no downside to no elimination and it would just be like week one where the scores are carried over.

Strictlyfanoftenyears · 18/12/2021 17:23

"a lot of angry Rhys fans out there - guys, you do know that if I'd tried to do week 4 but had then dropped dead during the show, it would still be a three-couple final, yeah?)
So anyway, the headlines are: sorry about everything, I'm not doing the thing"
That sounds arsey to me but each to their own opinion. I think Strictly is the sort of thing that money cant buy.

FuzzyPuffling · 18/12/2021 17:23

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

I agree.

I know it's easy to say it with hindsight, but it would have given a buffer against ending up with a two couples final.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/12/2021 17:29

Tilly and Robert? I have a solution. My namesake was the solution. (Slightly more involved than the iPad suggestion)

JanisMoplin · 18/12/2021 17:31

Had forgotten that Robert and Nina were ever on the show! Nina had potential.

NowNumber5 · 18/12/2021 17:32

Feeling rather flat about the final tonight.
Will probably still watch it, but it just doesn’t have that sense of excitement without AJ and Kai in it.
Was so looking forward to seeing their jive and their Charleston (still believe they should’ve got four 10s for that!) again, and of course, their show dance.
I really hope we’ll get to see that sometime in the future when AJ’s fully recovered.
Get well soon lass, tonight’s show will be poorer without you in it!

SequinsandStiIettos · 18/12/2021 17:35

Hell, I'm just here for the sequins Grin
I think Mel has done the right thing, doing the Xmas special.
Lets you dip your toes in without committing to a full series.
Me, if I was doing Strictly, I'd be thinking the whole time, 150 quid a session I'm saving here! Grin
A Donahey Strictly weekend is on my bucket list.

dementedma · 18/12/2021 17:35

I think Rose will win but John has really grown on me. He's very warm and funny and has given it everything while remaining down to earth. His comment re his sparkly vest last week is still making me laugh: " it looks like I've been coated in UHU and rolled through Claire's Accessories "

SequinsandStiIettos · 18/12/2021 17:37

YES sheldon YES!!!
Knew I'd inceptioned it from somewhere!!!
Thought it was n-sync but TBBT makes more sense! Grin

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/12/2021 17:40

It possibly was nsync as well sequins 🤣

I’m a bit of a sucker for a wheeled Sheldon though 😍.

SequinsandStiIettos · 18/12/2021 17:44

Me too. Just finished watching Young Sheldon this afternoon. Have a huge affection for both.
Just over an hour, gang. I have some coca cola and some chocolate orange, some painkillers, and two rowdy children.

Newnameobviously · 18/12/2021 17:45

@SunshineCake1

You are quite right. It didn't take a clairvoyant to anticipate there were likely to be more dropouts than usual this series. It would have been much better to miss one elimination and risk maybe later having to have a week with an extra elimination than to have a final with just 2 dancers. Or kept Rhys in last week to ensure 4 dancers in the final. Then if we'd had a CoVid or injury dropout we would still have had three. Two seems a bit empty and flat.

I hope AJ is on the tour (if it happens). I'd love to see her dance again.

I’m just heading off to work.

I can’t help but think some have taken advantage of the isolating recommendations…

Holidays refused due to people applying before you? And your isolation is for the same time?

Do they think the rest of us zip up the back? 🧐

SequinsandStiIettos · 18/12/2021 17:59
SequinsandStiIettos · 18/12/2021 18:01

Aw sheld I'm sorry. I'd be making them produce date-stamped PCR tests, each and every bloody time...but I'm petty like that.

I’m waiting for the stampede at Hogmanay sequins

It is a-coming…

Hope tonight is a blast anyway.

Keeeeep dancin 💃
