Just as well, as they seem to have lost all of the ones under 9...

I'm expecting an announcement today from AJ and Kai Sad
I just don't see how she could go from crutches and unable to bear any weight so can't train at all to suddenly doing 3 dances.

I wonder if they might excuse themselves from the competition element, but try perform at least one last dance maybe the show dance if it's an altered ballroom type style one so she doesn't completely miss out?

I just feel awful for them, to get this far and have this happen in the last week. Sad

Alcemeg · 17/12/2021 09:44

I feel so sorry for her. Without wishing to sound like a doom-monger, I always worried that it was only a matter of time before someone did themselves a mischief. Every year the emphasis is on how this year's show is even more spectacular than last year's, and the pressures on the celebs to outperform their wildest dreams must be immense.

I'm guessing that AJ and Kai were pulling out all the stops because their best way of being in with a chance when up against Rose would be to take our breath away with some dazzling display of daring. There are risks involved, though! I hope she focuses on healing from the injury and that we get to see her final dances another time, maybe in a special documentary next year. I mean who wouldn't watch a whole show about her Strictly journey and how fate so cruelly ended it!

She has said she isn't aware of when she did the damage so it doesn't sound like a huge spectacular move gone wrong. I'm still worried that she is going to try and go for tomorrow and end up breaking down.
IntermittentParps · 17/12/2021 09:55

Her Insta post said it was a repetitive injury, so presumably from lots of training over time rather than one catastrophic accident.
I do agree though that the escalating emphasis on every year being more spectacular, and the standard being higher every year, is boring at best and at worst can be damaging. It's not just about who can be the 'best' or do the most difficult lifts; it's easy to joke about the 'J' word, but a big part of Strictly's appeal IS the mix of abilities and personalities so everyone has someone to root for, and the journey they go on and improvements they make –the popularity of people like Dan this year attests to that.

I once did something to my leg on the Monday (later turned out to be a suspected torn muscle), couldn't walk on the Tuesday, painfully tested the ground with 5k parkrun on the Saturday and slowly completed a trail half marathon (21k) on the Sunday. Ligaments heal more slowly than muscle though.

If your heart is set on something and it's taken months to prepare, it is tough to sacrifice it and mentally the drive can get you a long way through doing it with gritted teeth. Doesn't mean it's wise... the training is more of an issue, but only the showdance is the new one. Trying your luck on performing for 3x two minute bursts is a gamble that most ambitious people would be willing to take at this point.

Runningupthecurtains · 17/12/2021 12:34

She has withdrawn. So gutted for them. But I think it's the right thing to do.

Sad I don't think I'll bother watching the final now. I don't like Rose or John that much.

I feel so sad for her, and for us for missing her amazing dances

Wonder if Kai would take me as a last minute replacement 🤔

LaBelleSauvage123 · 17/12/2021 12:40

Feel so sorry for them both.

Runningupthecurtains · 17/12/2021 12:42

@ShirleyPhallus you could offer - you never know your luck. I would volunteer but I would struggle to get my arm in AJ's frocks let alone my body.

hopeishere · 17/12/2021 12:45

So disappointed for her.

wintersdreams · 17/12/2021 12:47

Shame for AJ, I wasn’t her biggest fan but there was no denying she worked hard and was a good dancer.

I think they should bring Rhys back (I know that won’t happen though!)

Redcrayons · 17/12/2021 12:48

Oh no, what a shame. I was really looking forward to her show dance.

CampagVelocet · 17/12/2021 12:48

So sad for AJ. She was my favourite from the beginning. Just a brilliant dancer and a lovely person.

Probably won't bother watching the final now; Rose obviously has it in the bag. She could rock up and stand completely still for three minutes and the public and judges would still go wild for her.

IntermittentParps · 17/12/2021 12:49

So upsetting for them both. They weren't going to win, I don't think, but boy did she deserve to get to the final.

Also, speaking selfishly as a viewer, two-couple finals are a bit dull. Too much to-me-to-you.

GrouchyKiwi · 17/12/2021 12:54

I am so sad for AJ. Sad

Clawdy · 17/12/2021 12:57

It will be a much more boring final now. Poor AJ and Kai.

CasparBloomberg · 17/12/2021 13:00

Gutted for them. My absolute favourites, over invested this more than any other previous year. Kai has posted about it on Facebook.

"This is very hard to put into words but I’m going to try.

I want to let you know that sadly mine and AJ’s journey on Strictly Come Dancing has come to an end and we wont be competing in the final this Saturday. I am absolutely gutted that AJ and I wont get to finish our journey on Strictly the way we would’ve wanted to.
The last 12 weeks with AJ have been amazing, she has been the perfect student, hardworking, dedicated and talented and I am sending her all my love and best wishes for a quick recovery. I truly have made a friend for life in her and can’t wait to take to the dance floor with her again when she is fully recovered.

It has always been a dream of mine to join the the amazing cast of Strictly Come Dancing every since I was a kid, but to come in on my first season and be partnered with an amazing person like AJ and have the experience I have had is more than I could have ever imagined.I couldn’t be more proud of what we have achieved over the last 13 weeks and at times I really felt like I was dancing with a professional dancer.

I want to say a big thank you to every one on the show, from my fellow professionals, the celebrities, the judges, production, the costume, lighting and design department, the dance team and all the amazing people that work behind the scenes who help make Strictly the show it is.

Lastly I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported AJ and myself week in and week out, your support has been amazing and truly unforgettable. You know who you are.

To Gio & Rose, Johannes & John I’m wishing you the best of luck for the weekend you guys are amazing, go out and smash it!!!

Until next time, keep dancing x"

DontWantTheRivalry · 17/12/2021 13:03

I’m so sad for them Sad

CaveMum · 17/12/2021 13:05

So sad, but the right decision.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/12/2021 13:05

This is not surprising but very very sad nonetheless. Poor AJ and Kai, they've worked so hard.

Tomorrow's final will be a bit of a damp squib for me.

IReallyLikeCrows · 17/12/2021 13:06

I knew it was coming but it's still gutting and sad. I feel for both of them and I'm sure there have been a lot of tears this week.

A two couple final is really dull. I'll watch but there won't be as much joy in it as there would have been and I'm sad not to see her wonderful Charleston again. I would have loved to have seen her nail her jive as well. Totaly bummer.

BasiliskStare · 17/12/2021 13:13

It is sad but absolutely the right decision - she will not be forgotten

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/12/2021 13:15

Agree about a two couple final Crows.

I don't know if I'llbother tuning in.

I do like Rose, though, but I'll be able to watch the dances on catch-up and not have to sit through all Tess's crap.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/12/2021 13:16

Will miss aj, though - I went from finding her annoying to thinking she was the bee's knees!
