Previous thread here

I think it's a pretty good QF as QFs go.

I’m more akin to a Henry hoover tits

Short, dumpy, fairly round and usually red in the face from over exertion or making a suction of myself.

I will never be as sleek as the gtech or dyson. Or as expensive as an initial outlay. And I reckon I will need some sort of bag situation as the menopause isn’t being kind.

Yup. I’m Henry. Stout and dependable.

Feck me I’m a catch. 😭

I was sad to see Dan and Nadiya go as I have liked seeing their enjoyment of their journey and their socials are fun. Nadiya has been a revelation this year. I don't think I've ever heard a leaving couple get the cheers and reception from the pros and studio that they did - Dan was obviously really well-liked by everyone.

Hugely relieved for AJ and Kai - I was gutted to see them in the DO. Glad they nailed the lifts second time. Looking forward to them doing a filthy rumba and a delightful quickstep next week. Bit worried they might end up in the DO vs Rhys - I'd really like AJ to get to the final even though Rose will win the glitterball. J & J may dodge the DO if they can pull in the votes with the sob story of their CC.

Inkanta · 06/12/2021 02:59

Ahhh soo glad AJ got chance to nail that lift!!

Sequins Thank you for the Joe and Diane AT!Glitterball

OverByYer · 06/12/2021 07:01

@TheMadGardener what’s a CC?

Maireas · 06/12/2021 07:07

Couples Choice. Usually a vote winner because they tend to tell an emotional story. Although some of the best ones haven't eg Bill Bailey, Charles Venn.

Platax · 06/12/2021 07:25

The trouble with CC is that the judges don't seem to have much idea how to mark them. If they opt for contempowaft in particular they don't have to do much more than keep in time, and if they can attach it to some kind of personal "story" they're pretty much guaranteed high marks because the judges don't want to seem to diss the story. I wish they'd ban bloody contempowaft, it's really boring to watch.

SoupDragon · 06/12/2021 07:35

For me the 'outdancing' isn't Johannes twirling around John, it's that when they're dancing the same steps Johannes does them with miles more flair and he may put in an extra head movement, or an extra shimmy etc., etc. The fact that they're both men highlights it more.

Johannes is just so sinuous - I don't think he could stop that I he tried.

SoupDragon · 06/12/2021 07:38

@GreenLunchBox

don't think Rose would describe herself as disabled Are you saying being deaf isn't a disability?
I don't think the deaf (or Deaf.... sorry I don't know the nuances!) community see it as a disability.
OutwiththeOutCrowd · 06/12/2021 07:41

I particularly liked Nadiya placing value on Dan being encouraging to everyone. Beneath the glitz and glamour, I think there's a nice, homely woman who is going to continue to enjoy the odd curry in Sheffield with Dan and fam and not feel it's too dull at all.

lollipoprainbow · 06/12/2021 07:42

I don't think Johannes could tone it down if he tried !!

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 06/12/2021 07:46

John and Johannes often seemed to be in near-matching costumes. The sartorial symmetry set up the expectation for movement symmetry for me. Perhaps if they dressed rather differently, the extra flourishes from Johannes would be less in danger of producing an unbalanced effect?

SoupDragon · 06/12/2021 07:50

Someone on twitter has put the dances side by side, its the same lift.

I had wondered that as it looked totally different in the dance off - unsurprisingly as Kai didn't end up looking like was grappling with a live slippery fish 😂

I'm glad they nailed it in the dance off but I'm not sad that they messed it up the first time - it was comedy gold! As was John just giving up and dropping Johannes.

Samcro · 06/12/2021 08:38

i couldn't post last night. sad to see Dan go. but glad AJ stayed.
maybe these threads will be nicer now.

SoupDragon · 06/12/2021 08:44

maybe these threads will be nicer now.

I doubt it. People will still be castigating Rhys if he shows any emotion.

Thanks for posting. It’s quite funny watching him grappling with her.

StopGoQuitStart · 06/12/2021 10:00

Enjoyed the QF even though I wasn’t sure I would with two lots of simile dances. The lift fails were quite amusing - felt bad for the couples but it’s quite funny to see when things don’t go to plan (obviously if no one is hurt!) AJ was really emotional and I gave her all 3 of my votes. She really deserves a place in the final IMO although this weekend wasn’t a strong dance for her.

John was okay but again Johannes just needs to stop doing the “extra” as it’s making John look bad. Also agree with whoever mentioned that they need to get closer. Why are they miles apart all the time surely if M/F pairing some bits of that routine would be closer together.

Rhys was brilliant. I really enjoyed his dance. On that he deserves to go through however overall I’m not sure he should be in final compared to the other 3(?) he will be going into this week full of encouragement though knowing he wasn’t bottom two. I thought he might still be regardless of being a high scorer just because he doesn’t seem to have got much support from the public in prior weeks.

Rose was lovely dance but (this will be controversial!!) I’m getting a bit bored of her now. I hope there is something really wow from them in the SF dances. I do still have a feeling she will win.

Dan was really good. I’m pleased he’s gone out in a good score and a great dance. I’ll admit I will miss him next week as likes their friendship. He’s shown us a whole new side of Nadyia so think he’s really helped showcase her as a pro. They do seem genuine friends and his leaving speech was lovely.

Semi finals I couldn’t call it right now. Two dances each night impact on some of them and the style of dance also. It’s doesn’t always seem “fair” either eg this week I felt AJ and John were going to be directly compare with harder dances. Whereas Rose has the only soft type dance of the night. Next week JJ doing CC could give them a little edge because the judges seem to mark those high traditionally especially with story of them both struggling with prejudice when younger.

I think I’m still rooting for AJ to win but it’s such a strange year I can’t call it and don’t think it’ll be gutted if any of them win. They all deserve it.

Alcemeg · 06/12/2021 10:17

@Wingedharpy

Johannes can't help it with his lava lamp body. And long may it continue.Wink
Brilliant!! 🤣

Re Anton as a judge, by the way, I find him a bit variable. He's so polite that he seems to stumble on the "harsher" feedback and it can come across as slightly patronising. I'd be just the same, I think. In my next life I'll be more like Craig.

I watched that like 8 times in a row, the bafflement in the first version where it goes wrong really makes me giggle. It’s just legs everywhere!

riotlady · 06/12/2021 10:56

Has anyone seen that Tom Holland is going to be playing Fred Astaire in a new movie btw? I think it’s a great bit of casting, he’s got the right mix of goofiness and dance ability. Just hope they get someone good for Ginger

CharityDingle · 06/12/2021 10:57

I sometimes wonder when the eliminated couples talk about being friends for life now, does that actually happen? Grin

He'd definitely be on my dream team for Strictly Celebrity Ringer edition.
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/12/2021 12:03

I think her legs look amazing when she's standing still or hitting a line (or in everyday life!) but I do think when she's doing a fast dance there's a lot of leg to control and I'm not she always manages it!

Her feet are a long way away — perhaps it takes longer to get the messages from her brain down to her toes. Grin
