What can we watch on Netflix - just signed up

Okay, so I am really late to the Netflix party but I've just had a work promotion and thought 'stuff it, people are always talking about things on Netflix' and DD8 was borrowing my BFriend's login for some of the childrens programmes, so I signed up today.

Please can you help with must see recommendations! I've tried to set out our likes and dislikes below. I suppose I'm looking for TV more than films.

DH said he'd never heard of anything he wanted to watch on there so I would like to find things for him. He likes sport (football, cricket and F1 mainly) and music eg he is watching the new Beatles marathon programme on Disney+ at the moment. He isn't really into action stuff.

I like Disney/marvel/action films and TV, documentaries nothing really scary (so not Squid Game!). My BFriend has ordered me to watch Selling Sunset which does look fun and I want to watch Red Notice.

DH and I haven't watched any TV series in ages - we have got into a total rut and tend to watch live football (I like watching it too), Midsomer Murders or sometimes things on Sky Arts (the free channel, we don't have Sky TV). Someone else has recommended the Queen's Gambit so I might try him out on that.

DD8 has just discovered she can watch all the She Ra seasons, Miraculous and the new MLP film plus something called H2O (mermaids?) so she is happy.

DD13 likes Marvel but tends to play games on his phone more than watch TV (and we are watching Hawkeye together) so if there is anything you think he really would love, please suggest but otherwise he is probably covered by Disney+. Oh, anything car related would be good.

Thank you massively in advance Flowers

I like Schitts Creek, The Bodyguard, Superstore, Stranger Things and Maid. I thought all of those were good.

astoundedgoat · 01/12/2021 17:32

Call My Agent, Stranger Things, Schitt’s Creek, loads of the British stuff is great, Little Women is there now. I watched Love Actually this morning. :)

PuppyMonkey · 01/12/2021 17:37

A Netflix newbie needs to start with the following:

Breaking Bad
Better Call Saul
You
Making a Murderer
The Staircase
Maid
Black Books
I watched The Good Wife on it but not sure it’s still there tbh.

And then just see what starts popping up on Trending.

If your DH likes F1 he will love Drive to Survive

bilbodog · 01/12/2021 18:08

Money heist is brilliant

Gonegrey31 · 01/12/2021 18:11

Another vote for Drive to Survive, got me hooked on F1!

BingoandBluey · 01/12/2021 18:12

Red Notice

Driposaurus · 01/12/2021 18:13

Definitely The Queens Gambit.

The Crown, just so you can have an opinion on it (like everyone else).

TheWeeDonkey · 01/12/2021 18:33

Yeah, Drive to Survive and Schumacher are both good. There's some really good sports documentaries if he likes sport Last Chance U and The Last Dance are good too

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 01/12/2021 18:39

TV is probably better than films although more good movies have been added recently - our favourites have been
Queens Gambit
Maniac
Russian Doll
Call My Agent
Stranger Things
Tiger King
Better Call Saul
Atypical
The Umbrella Academy

Gilmore Girls, Motherland, Black Mirror, Black Books and Derry Girls are also all there if you haven't already watched them.

For your DD, Anne with an E went over well with my DC. They also love that most of the Ghibli films are on there.

Needdoughnuts · 01/12/2021 18:40

So many scandi murder series, unfortunately I don't remember the names of them! Wish I was starting all over again...

Shitzngiggles · 01/12/2021 18:42

Superstore
The Good Place
Good Girls
Stranger Things
Maid

coodawoodashooda · 01/12/2021 18:47

Designated Survivor

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 01/12/2021 18:48

Schitts creek is amazing, one of the most heart warming and wholesome shows I've seen. They are arseholes in the first series, but its still funny!

Kinda the same critique for Parks and Recreation. The first season is the worst but its still pretty good, its my go to comfort food style tv show and I've watched it a few times now!

Stranger things is fab, The good place is smart but very watchable, Superstore is funny and easy watching, as is Kim's convenience.

LegoPandemic · 01/12/2021 18:51

Sex Education
Good Place
The Crown
Queen’s Gambit
Gilmore Girls
Virgin River
Stranger Things
Maid
Sweet Tooth

Daisy829 · 01/12/2021 18:54

Selling sunset. Utter trash but great fun to watch!

MrsJaniceBing · 01/12/2021 19:02

You
Modern Family
Locke & key
The Good Place
The Umbrella Academy
If you like marvel/action then The Boys might be worth a watch -language is shocking & a bit violent but another side to action heroes!

Sparticle · 01/12/2021 22:38

Thank you so much everyone! Apologies, I was out this evening and have only just been able to check back in Confused

There are some great ideas on here, I really appreciate it. Flowers Right, off to add lots of these to our watch lists!

Modern family is a firm favourite here.

Currently enjoying Young Sheldon with my 10 yr old. No idea why it has a 15 rating as we're on the 3rd season and I'd rate it PG or 12 at most.

CimCardashian · 01/12/2021 23:23

The Queen’s Gambit

Confusedteacher · 02/12/2021 00:03

Superstore is just my favourite thing right now!

Sparticle · 02/12/2021 09:30

Thanks again everyone, keep them coming! Smile

I've added most of these to our watchlists, thank you. @TheGirlOnTheLanding looks like Anne with an E isn't on there any more, which is a shame as I think that would've been great for my daughter :/

Queen’s Gambit and Shtisel

Isababybel · 02/12/2021 20:06

Definitely watch Tiger King, it is a ROLLERCOASTER.
