Out last night so only watched on catchup today, so I didn’t dare post in case I got accused of seeing spoilers :) I would have predicted Tilly and Rhys in the dance-off, but I predicted that last week, and i’m Pretty confident Rhys will be in it again next week unless he gets top of the leaderboard. If Dan’s time has not run out, and i’m Not convinced it will have, it could be a shock next week.

Dan was a bit stiff, but everyone else was fairly even.

The levitating shirt should have gone through. It had rhythm.

I think Gio is quite entranced by Rose and almost wishes he was wholesome enough for her. But he's stuck in player mode and knows he should save Rose from himself.

Rose has got his number anyway.

Tilly was very composed and eloquent in defeat for someone so young. I hope I can say that without sounding patronising!

No but I do with AJ and Kai, feels like she was doing a private dance for him which made for uncomfortable viewing considering the rumours about them. When she jumped onto him with her legs akimbo was a bit much.

I really liked Tilly - I started thinking 'she's only there because of her dad and she'll be rubbish' but I really warmed to her. She worked so hard at the dancing, seemed to thoroughly enjoy the whole experience, took all criticism on the chin and came back fighting and gave a very gracious exit speech tonight. Lovely grounded young woman and I wish her all the best.

I think there are some wonderful dancers this year, and I would be happy with any one of my 3 favourite couples winning (J &J, R&G, A & K) I look forward to their dances every week. But actually although he's clearly not the best dancer, and he's not personally my cup of tea, Dan obviously has a big following and if he is who the public want to win, then people have enjoyed his dances and just because I disagree, doesn't make me any more right than them.

Does anyone know if there will be a week where they do two dances - maybe the semi final ? they always used to, and they always used to do a sort of danceathon thingy (although can see that might break distancing rules) - gave the judges a chance to 'fix' the scores

Thought it should have been Tilly and Dan in the dance off.
Loved the group opening dance to the 80s electronic music, thought Neil was fab!

I think Rose and Gio may have peaked too soon.

That’s a really good point, hadn’t thought of it like that until now... hope it proves not to be the case though, they’re still my favourites to win.

Fucking Gordon wiping his eyes every time he thinks the camera is on him. He’s been a massive hinderance to Tilly in this, although he’s the only reason she’s in it in the first place

I’m glad that AJ is safe - I was one of the few that really didn’t get her dance and I thought she could be bottom two. I’m clearly a numpty.

I’m glad they saved Rhys though. I wasn’t keen at the start - but the chap has grown on me and I’m willing him on. I can’t help it.

Sad about Tilly but crikey what a gift she has got from this. Imagine tackling what must seem impossible and doing it so well. To have confidence in yourself is a wonderful thing - and watching her blossom really has been a treat. She should bloody well be proud of herself.

As for her dad? I’d walk to the ends of the earth to hear my folks were proud of me. Never going to happen. Lucky her I say.

Dan? I can’t help but be a bit tickled that him and Nad are still there kicking. He seems like a good egg. And it is nice to see good eggs get a chance to shine.

I don't leave comments on your Strictly blog but just wanted you to know that I do read it and enjoy it every week!

There are too many dances now for the couples to do all of them. Last Series was 9 weeks long but there are now 15 dances in the schedule, meaning each couple got to drop loads of dances (dances repeated in the Final so that doesn’t count) so it’s “easy” to drop a perceived harder dance. This Series will be, I think, 13 weeks inc the Final so there are 2 competitive weeks left before they repeat dances in the Final.

From my back of the napkin calculations (via Wikipedia), the current remaining couples have the following dances to choose from:

AJ & Kai - Quickstep, Tango, Rumba, Salsa and Cha Cha Cha
John & Johannes - Waltz, Foxtrot, Jive, Salsa and Couples Choice
Rose & Giovanni - Waltz, American Smooth, Rumba, Salsa and Charleston
Rhys & Nancy - Foxtrot, Tango, Argentine Tango, Rumba and Samba
Dan & Nadiya - Waltz, Tango, Argentine Tango, Samba and Salsa

On the basis that they usually, though not always, alternate ballroom/latin type dances Dan is up against it with a choice between Samba and Salsa, and Rhys could be undone by a Rumba.

@AmyDudley I believe they’re scheduled to do two dances in the semi-final.

Loved Shirtgate! It went from daft to ridiculous, Nikita obviously thought they didn’t stand a chance and just went for it!

Sad for Tilly that she went out, the judges marking Dan against himself instead of the other competitors didn’t help.

She and Nikita seem quite close, I wonder if they will keep in touch…?

I really warmed to both Tilly and Nikita as this series went on (I know it's about the dancing, not a popularity contest, but still).

I hope Nikita is back next series and I wish Tilly well, as has been said above, she seems a really lovely young woman from what we got to see.

I agree with this. I'm disappointed she went as I'm not a fan of Rhys, so would have much preferred for him to be eliminated.

Surely he's out next week and then Dan, leaving Rose, AJ & J&J for the final.

they all have to do the samba at some point don't they. You could say she was lucky for avoiding it until now.
No, they all get to miss one, I think now it's two, since the advent of couple's choice. Hang on.
5 x Ballroom = foxtrot QS VW tango waltz
5 x Latin = CCC jive paso rumba samba
5 x Speciality = AS AT couples' choice (contempo/jazz/commercial) charleston salsa

12 weeks = 13 dances (they have to learn two in the semis)
so depending on what producers and pros have agreed you drop two.
In the finals you reprise two and learn your freestyle.

So altogether you learn 14 routines out of 16.
It is possible to swerve rumba and samba if you did all the speciality dances but comes down to what the producers have in mind.

Tilly still had VW rumba AS AT and salsa left
Had she done American smooth this week, she'd still have had to do salsa or samba next probably as you alternate between tempo or classic ballroom/party Latin. But she would have been 20k better off.
Had she done AS week 10 AT week 11 then in the semis VW and salsa, she could have avoided rumba and samba but AT is also hard and salsa has lifts (even though smooth salsa doesn't).

I've just seen it. I think Tilly conducted herself so well throughout : gracious, polite and cheerful. She was grounded as many older contestants haven't been and she can feel very proud.

Disappointed to see some of the spiteful and negative comments.

I’m pleased Rhys got through. I think he needs a more satisfying ending to his time on Strictly to boost his morale. I’d like him to go out on a high with praise from Craig ringing in his ears.

So looking at those, in two weeks time they learn two - you want an outside choreographer for one to take a load off, so a speciality dance. It's usually one ballroom/one latin or speciality.
So in the semis...

You are right cordelia, so this week an AS and semis the charleston and waltz maybe? Missing the rumba and AT entirely out of respect for Rose's boyfriend? seeing as the tabloids are wankers and showmance Gio every series.
