Succession - does it improve?

I had high hopes for this as many recommended it on here. I'm two episodes in and bored senseless..
I watch TV to avoid the family bickering 😄 So is this just an irritating start to set the scene and I need to persist? or is this series just about bickering family members with no plot?
Thanks

If you don’t already love it then I don’t think it’s for you.

Meowwwwwww · 23/11/2021 06:46

I loved it from the first episode. I’m partway through the third series now and it only gets better. One of the best shows I’ve watched in a long time. But if you find it boring now that probably won’t change.

slalomsuki · 23/11/2021 06:47

@whatshouldIdoo I am with you on this. I never even finished episode 2 as I lost interest and kept having to remind myself who each character was.

Newmum29 · 23/11/2021 06:47

I love it but some episodes are hit and miss. I think it got really good around episode 4/5z

MartyHart · 23/11/2021 06:57

I did the same as you OP so I'm interested in these answers.
I was bored stiff.

LavenderAskew · 23/11/2021 06:59

If you want to avoid family bickering, stop watching, it is not the programme for you!!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 23/11/2021 07:02

I don’t get it either @whatshouldIdoo

MattDamon · 23/11/2021 08:10

Took me until ep6 to get into it. I'm finding S3 very hit and miss and repetitive.

Kikkomam · 23/11/2021 08:12

I started to enjoy it from episode 4

Season 3 is really boring so far

Kikkomam · 23/11/2021 08:13

Also Shiv is totally miscast.

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 23/11/2021 09:05

It took me a few to get into it now I love it. S3 isn't setting me on fire however.

LoganRoy · 23/11/2021 09:15

It took me until Episode 5/6 to get into it. I think even one of the writers has mentioned a lot of people didn’t seem to click with it until halfway through.

SFisnotsimple · 23/11/2021 09:20

Critics say give it a few eps in season 1 but I like others have loved it since the off

I've watched S1 & 2 twice now as it's so fast paced I don't always catch every fantastic line

If you don't like family backstabbing and manoeuvring it's definitely not for you

I find it delicious! They are all evil three dimensional fascinating horrible characters and it shows how money doesn't provide happiness very clearly

The writing is exceptional and oh the theme tune is bliss

I'm a bit of a fan Blush

LiterallyKnowsBest · 23/11/2021 09:36

It’s the best thing on any screen right now. But each season is exponentially better than the previous one - (huge thread for S3) so you’ll miss a huge amount of TV joy if you give up on S1.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 23/11/2021 09:40

@Kikkomam

Also Shiv is totally miscast.
Who should have got the part?
Kikkomam · 23/11/2021 09:46

No idea. I just find her really unconvincing.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 23/11/2021 09:55

Ah fair enough. I thought you’d got someone particular in mind. I love casting debates. Haha

Journeyofthedragons · 23/11/2021 09:57

Try the first two episodes of season one and if you're not sold on it then leave it.

I think Shiv is great, more than happy with the actor they chose.

Kikkomam · 23/11/2021 09:58

Tom and Greg are the best characters by far.

Nesbo · 23/11/2021 10:41

I think the actor who plays Shiv does a great job. She is playing someone who is constantly aware of themselves, who thinks they have distanced themselves and managed to rise above their family (the Democrat who apparently wants no role in the family business), who thinks they are probably a bit cleverer than everyone else in the room.

The development of her character as the seasons progress, the painful relationship with Logan, the struggles with her morality (or the public perception of her morality), as some said above it is all very three dimensional. You hate them but you wince are their moments of genuine pain. Great stuff.

Kikkomam · 23/11/2021 10:43

They are all such ghastly people. Kendall had moments where you could sympathise with him in season 1 and 2
None of them are remotely likeable now apart from Tom and Greg. If they all get blown up at the end of season 3 I won't care

SFisnotsimple · 23/11/2021 10:51

The description of Shiv being constantly aware of herself is a great point

How fucking exhausting

SNUG2022 · 02/01/2022 05:59

Can someone please explain why this is do good? I've binge watched it over Xmas and I think all the components are there, but it never actually goes anywhere, it just circles round and round and round. It has the same story line in each series and most episodes. I actually like the characters but now find Logan very 2 dimensional which is a surprise. Just lots of "fuck off". The script is dry and funny, but we never get anywhere. Nothing happens.

Kiitos · 02/01/2022 06:26

I watched the first series and was bored by it. I don’t think I’ll bother with the next series.

KylieKangaroo · 02/01/2022 14:33

I watched S1 and a bit of S2 but do think it's highly overrated! Now I can't continue anyway as I forgot where I was up to!
