Im confused about Rocky (Tom). If he's Charlie Cotton's illegitimate son, why does he have his surname. Surely to God an illegitimate child wouldhave their mothers last name. There are women in committed relationships or even married who have their kids in their name, ffs. I can't abide stupidity.

The whole 'Rock on Tommy ' , whose the mother and father of him and now he is Dotty 's ( real name Kirsty ) dad is confusing ! I remember Dot's sister had a fling with Nick's dad Charlie etc ( it was spoken about ) but I don't recall her having a son ? How old is Tommy / Rocky meant to be , where did he live before ? Sandra doesn't seem his sort either ?
Kathy was very upbeat about the scam burgers and losing 20 k too ! I'd be pretty furious. I'm shocked Peter didn't hit him.

The idea of giving the baby the surname Cotton because of Dot is a very good one ; Dot lived by the Bible and although she fell out with Rose , she wouldn't have seen little Tommy seem that he illegitimate to other people ( if that makes any sense ) good call 70s'!
A Very Dot thing to do plus times were different then , people did care about a baby's parentage etc.

Times have changed significantly since Rocky was born! His mother could have changed her surname to appear to be married.

Lots of people pretended to be married years ago to save face
A distant relative did our family tree and was warned that finding marriage certificates from way back is sometimes hard as people pretended to be married but couldn't afford to actually do it!
It was more common than you would have thought it to be.

My parents only discovered that their long term friends weren't married when the "husband" of the couple died. The "wife" changed her name by deed poll. They were all born in the 30s.

Soup - yes. My grandparents 'had to get married'. Shotgun wedding. My mother was born about 5 months later. My grandmother altered the date on the marriage certificate so it wasn't so obvious that she'd been conceived out of wedlock. Caused a bit of bother when grandfather died and they were trying to sort out her inheriting his pension.

Agree with you that it wasn't a bad episode. Building up suspense. Don't think Sonia is breaching data protection. She only knows about Stuart in a private capacity as a friend.
