I suspect that the guest performers' songs are negotiated depending on their star power. If Taylor Swift wants to come on and perform her new song then she can sing whatever the hell she wants. The Script are B-list nowadays so they're only getting a slot if they do an actual Greatest Hit.

I just assumed it was a case of if the artist is on the promo trail for a new single then they are signed up to perform that but if they're "just" filling the gap then they are signed up on the proviso that they sing one of their biggest/most well known songs.
