Just binged Midnight Mass on Netflix and really enjoyed it. Spoiler alert if you haven’t see it!
What I can’t understand is why no one thinks to mention that they might be dealing with vampires through the entire season. 😂 I mean that would be the first thing that popped in my head.
Anyone can suggest something similar to watch?

Anyone? Not necessarily just vampire-related!

I absolutely loved it! So did my husband actually who didn't like his other ones, the haunting of hill house/bly manor.

Hopeisallineed · 27/10/2021 19:16

Oh! I tried that, well first two episodes but then gave up. Is it worth pursuing?

WingBingo · 27/10/2021 21:42

All three are good in my opinion

DH and I both said the same thing about the vampires. Why did no one notice?

Duckypoohs · 27/10/2021 21:49

I did watch it all and enjoyed it, but it was a very slow build. It was also daft that vampires didn't seem to exist in that universe, I mean come on now.

lynntheyresexpeople · 27/10/2021 21:50

I think it's sort of part of the charm, that they don't mention vampires. It doesn't then become another vampire based supernatural programme. It's really unique isn't it! We really thoroughly enjoyed it.
Haunting of hill house and blye manor are also absolutely fantastic, Beautifully told stories.

Hopeisallineed · 27/10/2021 23:05

Right, I’ll really have to investigate those then. Yes, I know what you mean about not mentioning vampires, otherwise it would just become generic vampire movie. I actually really started to like the priest, until towards the end!

I clicked on this having seen the first two episodes - I quite like spoilers as it helps me decide if I want to keep watching

I noticed the creatures darting about and was thinking of witches' familiars, or thinking maybe we'd never find out.

I have never seen a vampire drama. Maybe this is a gentle introduction to vampire shows!

I found it slow but the bits that are good are very good!

I watched because I loved Hill House, but I gave up on Bly Manor as it got a bit manic.

I hope we find out more about the island where the feral cats live...or lived.....

Hopeisallineed · 28/10/2021 09:25

Keep watching! It does get much better.

DaisyNGO · 28/10/2021 09:39

oh I will....going to get a couple of episodes in today I hope.

I really like the sheriff, I hope he doesn't turn out to be eeevil.

Hopeisallineed · 28/10/2021 10:37

I liked him too! He’s great. It reminds me a tiny bit of At Dusk til Dawn as everything is fairly normal at the start and then it’s not!

I really don't like the horror genre but this is SO good! Nothing like I was expecting, from the trailers.

That thing that Riley did, when he was in the boat with Erin, caught me by surprise. Perfect plotting, perfect writing.

I'm just about to watch the final episode and don't want it to end...

AiryFairy1 · 29/10/2021 09:13

We just finished it! Quite enjoyed it but also felt a bit hoodwinked by the trailers - we were expecting more of a thriller, so were VERY surprised by the vampire twist!

Hopeisallineed · 29/10/2021 15:29

I’ve just started Hill House. Am finding it slightly frustrating but enjoying it!

In the middle of episode 3 of Midnight Mass. please tell me this gets faster?

The religious stuff is boring me.

Hopeisallineed · 30/10/2021 21:53

@DaisyNGO I have to admit to fast-forwarding through some of the speeches!

Ah...I just did that with the school bible conversation.

I don't normally MN while watching TV...

The occasional moments of people seeing things
Do they become anything, do they make more of them? Wondering if it's like that annoying book I mentioned upthread...they are the most interesting bits and they never get expanded.

Hopeisallineed · 30/10/2021 22:01

I think so, it all becomes clearer certainly!

GroggyLegs · 30/10/2021 22:36

Spoilers in this post!

I really enjoyed it but it went a bit wonky at the end for me.

Monsignor suddenly deciding it was a bad idea - well, obviously? The vampire angel swooping the old/young lady off super dramatically & then her just rocking up later? Nobody telling Bev to STFU at any point?

Also, distracting beards throughout & yes, how on earth did nobody - particularly non-believer Riley - say "Er, that's not an angel, that's a vampire"?

But all that said, I did enjoy it.

Hopeisallineed · 30/10/2021 22:38

Lots more of holes in it to be sure! 😂

OP posts:
DaisyNGO · 30/10/2021 22:45

I've decided to write it off. Not a fan of vampire stuff.

Just wondering, is Riley a vampire?

Bev was so annoying.

bloodybloodypilotlight · 30/10/2021 22:55

The vampire angel swooping the old/young lady off super dramatically & then her just rocking up later?

She died, surely? The vampire killed her when it swooped off with her but because she has its blood in her system she comes back as a vampire. That’s why when she sits up all of the lights are glowing and when Pruitt asks if it hurt her she looks at him like he’s a bit stupid.

I am assuming that if Mildred came back then Erin does too, we just don’t see it. They’ve both not drunk the blood/wine for a similar amount of time.

DaisyNGO · 31/10/2021 00:20

Just read up on the ending
Hope no one got too attached to any characters...

Blindleadingtheblind · 31/10/2021 00:27

I loved this, it was so.... different. Very slow build up. I liked all the religious stuff as it's almost like the priest was trying moralise his actions. And obviously Bev did this to a greater degree.

What I couldnt understand is that if the priest had been on the island for decades and a lot of the families had lived there for presumably decades, why did they not recognise the priest when he came back from his trip looking like his younger self? Its like they only twigged by looking at his newspaper article on the wall.
