Midnight Mass

Just binged Midnight Mass on Netflix and really enjoyed it. Spoiler alert if you haven’t see it!
What I can’t understand is why no one thinks to mention that they might be dealing with vampires through the entire season. 😂 I mean that would be the first thing that popped in my head.
Anyone can suggest something similar to watch?

Really liked Riley and the Sheriff as characters too. Oh and the doctor.

I really like the sheriff, I hope he doesn't turn out to be eeevil he's not allowed to be, he's Rav from iZombie and he's ace.

if the priest had been on the island for decades and a lot of the families had lived there for presumably decades, why did they not recognise the priest when he came back from his trip looking like his younger self? thing is, if you saw someone and their face looked familiar, you wouldn't immediately assume it was them from 40 years ago. Most of them were younger than him and the docs Mom too. So for Riely vicar guy was an adult when he was a kid. Think how old every adult seemed, every teacher. If you saw them again now but at that age, your brain wouldn't compute, esp when you'd seen him age for decades.

It is weird when it's a universe without vampires etc. Like hello, Google is your friend

For some reason I realised Paul was Pruitt but it was something he said in episode 1. I thought perhaps a parallel life thing was going on.

@bloodybloodypilotlight

The vampire angel swooping the old/young lady off super dramatically & then her just rocking up later?

She died, surely? The vampire killed her when it swooped off with her but because she has its blood in her system she comes back as a vampire. That’s why when she sits up all of the lights are glowing and when Pruitt asks if it hurt her she looks at him like he’s a bit stupid.

I am assuming that if Mildred came back then Erin does too, we just don’t see it. They’ve both not drunk the blood/wine for a similar amount of time.

I get that Pilot, but her departure was so dramatic compared to everyone else's 'transformation' I felt she should have at least come back bald & with wings.

At first I thought it was going to be a bit like 'Get Out' and Pruitt had changed bodies with a youngster and kept him in the box.

All the obvious Mrs Doubtfires were a bit if a klaxon clue to what was going to happen though.

I don’t understand why it seemingly took the Priest days to turn in to a vampire but not everyone else. Plus the Doctor’s mother ( forgotten her name but the one who had dementia and was miraculously cured) did recognise him but never mentioned it to anyone. Even though she thought something ‘iffy’ was going on and wouldn’t attend his sermons.

They changed at the moment they died - I think the vampire needed to keep Pruitt alive so he would be able to travel in the light etc to bring him back to the island, so he didn't completely kill him in the tomb.

Riley was killed outright by the vampire angel, so changed right away.

Handy that it was an island hey? If it had been New York the world would have been doomed!

DaisyNGO · 31/10/2021 10:53

what is a "Mrs Doubtfire" please?

GroggyLegs · 31/10/2021 15:51

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mrs._Doubtfire

Dodgy makeup.

Just finished and loved it. Thought the actor who played the priest was amazing. Ending a bit silly but still really enjoyed it.

DaisyNGO · 01/11/2021 13:14

@GroggyLegs

Thanks I didn't get far enough to see that!
Multicolouredsequins · 01/11/2021 13:42

Really enjoyed it, the priest was a great actor. Last episode was great. Vampires obviously not a 'thing' in that universe.
A completely different genre, but totally recommend french series 'call my agent' on Netflix, husband and I still miss watching it.

Just coming on to say watched this by recommendation of ds1. Loved it.

I thought all of the acting was great.

Riley looks like Tom Hardy and Erin like Angelina Jolie did anyone else notice?

cherrytree63 · 05/01/2022 08:45

I thoroughly enjoyed it, found the ending really sad.

Juniper68 · 05/01/2022 12:09

Yes especially the father and son praying together

Finished it yesterday, took my time to watch it, I don't like to binge.
I found it absolutely brilliant, heartbreaking and a level higher than Haunting of Hill House (haven't seen Bly Manor, heard some mixed reviews on it).
The reason why I found it better is that where Haunting was telling a nice story, Midnight Mass addresses something bigger.
It talks about blind faith vs faith crisis, about how hell is paved with good intention, and how guilt and the search for redemption can blind us. The fact that the sheriff was muslim wasn't random at all, this is a hint to how religious extremism and therefore terrorism works and operates.

For those who wondered why they never talked about vampires, this is exactly why. They're so blinded by their faith that they see literal confirmations of the bible's metaphors everywhere, they're totally oblivious to the fact that this angel is nothing but a vampire and resurrection is nothing but being a living dead.
