It was a bit miserable wasn't it? Hopefully the results show probdance will be more fun!

Placemarking

Couldn't watch live. No surprises.

I do wonder whether the bottom two might have been different if certain people hadn’t been over marked. I tend to think that there are usually two or three people who always have a strong public vote and will be safe no matter what (I’d guess Rose and John this year, Bill last year) - but that the rest have a lower public vote and are more vulnerable to the judges’ scoring.
I did think this weekends’ shows were a bit flat. Some of the scoring was baffling, and I felt it was a bit off that Motsi and Shirley completely dismissed Craig’s opinions a couple of times, like they were talking down to him. I wouldn’t blame him for being a bit pissed off at that.

2Rebecca · 17/10/2021 23:05

I dislike Motsi as a judge. Bring back Darci. Motsi is too positive and gushy. Has she ever actually danced? She doesn't look like a dancer. I like Craig but he does have favourites. He's not afraid of being unpopular though where as I don't see Motsi being confident enough to give a 4. She's a people pleaser not a judge.

KitchenDancefloor · 17/10/2021 23:08

Does anyone know what Tilly is studying?
Obviously the show won't announce that she is studying eg BA Underwater Basket Weaving at the University of Bilge, for her privacy and safety.
But I just wondered if anyone knew vaguely what she is doing? I can't imagine that she can do dance practice for 40+ hours a week and study a lab-based course.

Immaculatemisconception · 17/10/2021 23:09

I really don’t enjoy Motsi’s judging and comments.

I think I read somewhere that she’s doing Psychology. Don’t know where though.

I'm not a fan of Motsi's judging but yeah she can dance. m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DehYqlzsK2-k&ved=2ahUKEwjAi9CcvdLzAhUGAcAKHWIuCG8QwqsBegQIAxAF&usg=AOvVaw3CkZItIT37dfoIXPuwHLdf" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DehYqlzsK2-k&ved=2ahUKEwjAi9CcvdLzAhUGAcAKHWIuCG8QwqsBegQIAxAF&usg=AOvVaw3CkZItIT37dfoIXPuwHLdf
ilovesooty · 17/10/2021 23:32

Motsi has certainly actually danced. I'm not keen on her judging either though.

the80sweregreat · 18/10/2021 06:16

Craig is the only one who knows what he is talking about ( in my opinion )

WeAreTheHeroes · 18/10/2021 07:05

Some of the judges' scores have been way off the mark imho this year and just too high too soon. I think Motsi's comments are better this series because she's not being wound up to a shrieking frenzy by Bruno. Anton's comments are constructive as are Shirley's. To say Craig is the only one who knows what he's talking about isn't correct, he's just harsher in his critique and doesn't dress things up.

CaveMum · 18/10/2021 07:27

Ironically he’s the only Judge who has not trained fully in Ballroom/Latin! He’s great from a performance and choreography point of view, but his knowledge of the technical aspects of the main dances (I’m excluding Charleston, Couple Choice, etc) are limited compared to the others.
MissMarpleRocks · 18/10/2021 07:49

My favourite judges
Craig
Anton
Motsi & Shitley equal bottom two.

CaveMum · 18/10/2021 07:56

@Onlinedilema

Had my Kev been married 3 times?
Yes, he’s been married 3 times - according to Wiki he got married to an “unnamed dance partner” at the age of 20, divorcing 3 years later. Then married Clare Craze (another dancer) but they divorced in 2013. He married Karen in 2015, separating in 2018.

Perhaps he falls in love easily? I know back in the day it was common for dance partners to marry just because it saved money on hotel rooms (Len Goodman talks about his first marriage this way, saying once they stopped dancing competitively they realised they had nothing in common), but that’s not really a factor these days.

Clawdy · 18/10/2021 08:17

I really like Anton as a judge, but his ludicrous comment about Tilly’s dance being the best of the season was ridiculous.

lollipoprainbow · 18/10/2021 08:20

Yes what is the obsession with Tilly she is mediocre at best are the judges all being given a backhander by Gordon ?!

lollipoprainbow · 18/10/2021 08:21

Didn't Anton say Sara's foxtrot was the best of the season too ??! I wasn't keen on her tango her head was wobbly in places again she was over marked.

lollipoprainbow · 18/10/2021 08:22

In the past 9's and certainly 10's weren't handed out like sweets until at least week 5/6 it feels too rushed this year.

WeAreTheHeroes · 18/10/2021 08:24

Are they giving Tilly bonus points for being the youngest? I didn't get the fuss about her Charleston tbh as I feel I've seen better and more memorable ones on Strictly over the years.

cricketmum84 · 18/10/2021 08:28

@WeAreTheHeroes totally agree. It was nowhere near Faye and Gio's Charleston (which I think was the best ever).

She seems very sweet though but no she's not the best dancer!

Newgirls · 18/10/2021 08:33

Motsi is my favourite judge! She’s knows her stuff, kind and so glamorous. They are a good blend this year. Anton is doing a great job too. Waffles on a bit but he’s getting better.

southcarolina · 18/10/2021 08:56

Just randomly occurred to me that;

  • they are not letting Claudia and Tess near each other so that if one gets covid the other can run the show
  • the pros and celebs have probably signed contracts stating that if covid restrictions come back mid season they will follow the strict bubble model seen last year...

Random Monday thoughts for you :)

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 18/10/2021 08:57

I don't get the Sarah love at all. I certainly didn't think that she deserved to be top of the leader board. There were moments during that tango that looked like Aliaz was lugging her around the dance floor.

southcarolina · 18/10/2021 08:57

Does anyone else think that Antons comments are a bit 'me me me' sometimes? (Granted mixed with very specific technical advice). This week was better but last week I felt like he just spoke about his experience of each dance rather than advice for several couples

SoupDragon · 18/10/2021 08:58

It was nowhere near Faye and Gio's Charleston (which I think was the best ever).

I still feel robbed that we didn't get to see Sophie and Brendan redo their Charleston in the final.
