Anyone watching? This series is funnier than the previous 2 imo. The farmer's character is brilliant.

I can’t remember now whether I started a thread or commented elsewhere!

Think I declared that I want Joseph Gilgun as Bond and Dr Who. (And may already have mentioned a million times how epic he was in ‘Misfits’.)

It’s a couple of weeks or so since I binged S3, so details such as how it compares to SS1&2 have gone from my brain. If I had a minor complaint it would be that Dylan is massively underwritten in this season - but there’s a certain subtlety in portraying the pain of that. Maybe. And the father & son theme was a teeny bit heavy handed.

But mostly I loved it. It’s so very rare for writers to actually take trouble with dialogue. And I kind of want to move in with Vinnie …

Frazzledd · 17/10/2021 19:18

@EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues was he in Misfits!? I only watched the first couple of episodes, it's back on the list!

This is England, Preacher, Brassic- he really is up there as one of my 'go to' actors right now- randomly watched a film called 'The Informant' the other day, small part but just great in it!

Oh, and it's a big thumbs up for Series 3 from me, roll on No 4!

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 17/10/2021 19:43

He doesn’t appear until S3! ‘Misfits’ is discombobulating because there’s such relentless cast churn. (It’s astonishing how successful members of the cast have become.) So, yes, it takes a bit of determination to keep watching - but it’s worth it. Other than ‘I May Destroy You’ it probably has the best script of anything I’ve seen for years.

Frazzledd · 17/10/2021 19:49

@EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues off to imdb for cast info...Grin

I like that you compared it to 'I may destroy you', that was a total binge watch for me, if the writings anywhere near as good I'll stick with it! 👍

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 17/10/2021 20:10

Mmm … Very, very different dialogue. Both massively impressive.

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 17/10/2021 20:13

Misfits is pretty superficial and cartoonish. So most of the plots are ridiculous flights of twisted fantasy. But Joe Gilgun’s character … (No spoilers!)

Frazzledd · 17/10/2021 20:23

I don't mind the cartoonist stuff (just watched 'The Boys', plus I'd put Preacher in that sort of category), I just couldn't get into Misfits (I really like Robert Sheehan though) - it was I while ago so definitely worth another shot!

As for Brassic 3, the opening scene with him leaving prison had me from the off, especially the convo with the guard about what people smuggle up their bums...!

'Christmas lights!!?' 🎄 🤣

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 17/10/2021 20:38

Ha! I had a conversation with a ‘The Boys’ enthusiast - after I’d slogged through all of it out of respect for their opinion. So grossly overblown. I much preferred the intense focus on a single location offered by Misfits. (‘The Boys’ reminded me too much of ‘Heroes’ - which I had to stop watching as it was clearly going the same way as ‘Lost’ …)

‘The Nevers’ is a good companion piece for Misfits.

Haven’t seen ‘Preacher’. Should I have?

Frazzledd · 17/10/2021 20:56

Definitely give Preacher a go! Especially if you managed to get through The Boys (I thought the same as you, also with Heroes funny enough, saw the first series and no more!) Joe Gilgun's character is worth the watch alone - I've not seen it all though, it is a bit 'where's this going?' for the first few episode's....

I've seen the first couple of The Nevers aswell (the same as Misfits) and gave up.

Going to stick with Misfits (just to get to series 3!)

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 17/10/2021 21:23

Ah … There’s a point to ‘The Nevers’! You have to stick with it to the end. And avoid all spoilers beforehand.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/10/2021 12:36

Loving it but I watch weekly

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 20/10/2021 12:56

Right, am clearing the afternoon for Preacher. Just looked at the cast - Ruth Negga and Pip Torrens as well as JG? And I adore a vampires in anything. Christmas come early!

Oh you'll love it then! I think we're into the same sort of genre! I've got this weekend off (first in a long time!), dedicating my Saturday to Misfits!! Grin
GoodnightGrandma · 20/10/2021 17:05

I love the undertaker, he gets so mad when they ding the bell !

Chosennone · 20/10/2021 17:06

Am I right in thinking it's the same writer as Shameless? It certainly has a similar feel. Injust hope it doesnt get to silly like that did. The humour at the minute is spot on and the friendship group so likeable. I do think Michelle Keegans teeth are out of place though! They're Hollywood perfect!

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 21/10/2021 07:05

Yes the Brassic writer, Danny Brocklehurst, did write Shameless. And The Street! Etc.

Immediately after saying I would spend the afternoon on Preacher I became the most popular person in the world to talk to by phone, so only managed to squeeze in two episodes last night. Should I persist? A Guardian review from 2016 says it’s the best thing no one’s talking about.

The cinematography is great. The weirdness is intriguing. Ruth Negga’s darling little face is always enough. But I’m glad I’ve already seen Joseph Gilgun in other things where he’s perfect - because I can’t quite settle into the terrible Irish accent or, oddly, the uncertain body language here.

Still, I have deadlines to ignore, so it’ll serve a purpose.

Bagelsandbrie · 21/10/2021 07:15

Absolutely love this series. The episode with the man being run over and the car going over the cliff made me laugh out loud so much. Grin

Krabapple · 21/10/2021 07:43

SPOILER ALERT

Loved this series - they are all brilliant. The actors just seem to gel together. Can someone please tell me what Erin whispered to him? I couldn’t work out how to get subtitles on last night and watched that bit 3 times and still couldn’t make it out properly. Great ending though

HappyBirthdayMrPresident · 21/10/2021 08:00

Omg I absolutely love the characters and the love and loyalty they all have for each other . I agree not much about Dylan this series compared to the previous but I adore Tommo and I think one of my all time ever favourite tv characters is Vinnie ❤️

HappyBirthdayMrPresident · 21/10/2021 08:02

Erin whispered to him that the percentage number (can't remember the exact amount 65?) was enough

Bagelsandbrie · 21/10/2021 08:04

Love Tommy! When he gets stressy he’s so funny!

Bagelsandbrie · 21/10/2021 08:05

*Tommo- auto correct fail!

EdmontinaTiresofNameFlipping · 23/10/2021 00:58

So … S1, Ep9 - Preacher has just turned into the greatest thing ever. Such ambition.

Started warming to it once I began to comprehend it’s about the nature of belief. (Though maybe that will change?) But I’m so relieved with the way interwoven threads are being revealed.

But my goodness it’s a slow burn - the first several episodes gave the impression the writers didn’t care if the audience stuck with it.

Bit worried about all the seasons to come. I have a life to get on with. Goals. Will need massive amounts of self discipline not to give up an entire month to this …

Maybe I’d finish just in time for the Brassic Christmas special! 😈

Frazzledd · 23/10/2021 06:53

@EdmontinaTiresofNameFlipping what's this!? A Brassic Christmas Special!?? Grin

So pleased your enjoying Preacher! It took me a while to wrap my head around/decide to stick with! Episode 9 is going already!

Well, it's my day off today- Was going to do Misfits but they've just released season two of Locke & Key on Netflix! Shock that's me done for ten hours (ish)

cushioncovers · 23/10/2021 16:35

The episode where they thought they'd killed the drunk guy and tried to hide his body was brilliant
