The Keepers, how could I forget that one? Athlete A, Going Clear, The Clinton Affair

There's something wrong with aunt Diane (on Now TV) about a dedicated mum and aunt who drove her car off the road with kids inside.

Who killed Garrett Philips (Amazon Prime) a confusing murder in upstate New York, the case has lots of issues which are well covered in the doc.

Roll Red Roll (Netflix) about a teenage girl raped by one of the football team and the aftermath (tw sexual violence)

Tickled (Apple TV) the weirdest story ever about tickling competitions at the outset but actually about something else. I won't spoil it because it's the best documentary ever.

Queen of Versailles about a couple who start to build the biggest most expensive house in America and then the 2008 crisis hits

Framing Brittney

There is due to be a Jackie Collins doc on bbc2 tomorrow night.

Any Storyville docs are good.

standupsitdownturnaround I also watched the Queen of Versailles, I really enjoyed it.

Black Fish is great but upsetting if you love animals, not for the soft hearted.

Hunting the Essex Lorry Killers on bbc

Heartbreaking

The Maradona documentary on Amazon prime

The Movies That Made Us (Netflix) is quite good, despite itself. Each episode looks at the making of a ‘classic’ 80s or 90s movie. Dirty Dancing, Die Hard, Home Alone, Nightmare on Elm Street etc.

The production of the show itself is quite irritating — gossipy, ‘perky’ in tone and generally a bit annoying. I almost chucked the remote at the screen a couple of times.

But somehow they manage to pull interesting stories and reminiscipackages out of some of the people who were involved. The Dirty Dancing one was actually quite moving in the end.

Went and looked at documentaries on iPlayer off the back of this thread and decided to watch that @oakleydo . Really sad and so complex for them to find out the identities of the victims. One time I was glad at the level of CCTV coverage in this country!

Notmulan · 15/10/2021 22:36

Oh I had forgotten about queen of Versailles, that was surprisingly good. I also loved the documentary about the Fyre festival ..really really interesting, and need to watch the documentary about the conwoman too when it comes out (if it hasn’t already).

@TorchFire: "I was fascinated by how the camera crew (who had to all be experienced climbers because drones aren’t allowed in Yosemite, so the whole climb was filmed by climbers (roped) with cameras, without getting in Alex Honnold’s way) had to come to terms with the fact that they might end up filming someone they’d got to know well falling to his death a foot from them."

Holy crap I didn't even think about that! I couldn't get over how detached he seemed from the idea of what he was doing whilst being obsessed with it at the same time; the two things are so at odds with each other. His interaction with his girlfriend was cringey as well, felt very bad for her.

Need to rewatch this film Grin

Dear Zachary is very sad but good, the devil you know on Channel 4 catchup is good too. Lu la rich is about MLMs, icarus is fantastic too. I watch loads on YouTube x

oakleydo · 16/10/2021 07:11

@Taswama i thought the same. Magnificent cctv and eye witness accounts. Fascinating how they re-told some of the victims stories

Sophie: À murder in West Cork is good. It's well told and engaging.

Notmulan · 14/01/2022 18:21

Just recalled this thread as I’ve just watched 14 peaks and it’s brilliant. For those that enjoyed free solo you will definitely like this!

The Countess and the Russian Billionaire

I was surprised at how gripping this was.

It was showing on BBC but now on Netflix.
