What do we think?

Also agree that the actress playing Mariette is far too old. She looks older than me and no way could I pass for 19!

Joanna Scalan is great though

Springplanting · 18/10/2021 20:03

Yes out of all of them Joanna Scanlan is the best of the bunch.

Pam Ferris is much warmer though.

mum2jakie · 18/10/2021 20:39

I love Joanna Scanlan since she was in No Offence. I think this series is growing on me a bit. Pretty inoffensive Sunday night viewing

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 18/10/2021 21:55

My other half loves this. I’m surprised, not his usual thing at all. I like Ma. But I bloody love that big horse Mariette rides.

eggandonion · 19/10/2021 10:03

My other half thinks it isn't as good as the old one. Which he complained about, because it was silly.
I think I will make him watch some old episodes Smile

LyndaSnellsSniff · 23/10/2021 21:03

None of the characters have any redeeming features. The acting is poor (especially the actress playing Mariette) and I simply can't bring myself to care about any of them. They all seem to be vaguely embarrassed by the whole thing and are making no effort whatsoever.

Overall it's just really unpleasant to watch. Such a shame. ACGAS on the other hand, was a joy

Maireas · 23/10/2021 21:22

It's a disappointment. Not warm or charming at all.

WildImaginings · 23/10/2021 21:48

I don't mind it too much. Easy watching for a Sunday night. Not a patch on The Durrells which I miss dearly.

Did anyone else notice the blatant product placement for Heinz ketchup?! In both episodes it's been prominently displayed and repeated references to 'the sauce'!

OrlandointheWilderness · 23/10/2021 23:06

Who the hell cast Charlie?!? He's supposed to be a bumbling, slightly unattractive city weed type, not the bloody handsome strapping bloke who has appeared 😂! I'm sorry but you really would need to suspend disbelief to think this fella was ever inexperienced with the ladies!

Yep. The new Charlie is the wrong Charlie for the job.
Maireas · 24/10/2021 18:45

Also, he said his parents migrated from Nigeria, but he's called Cedric Charlton. Unless he's adopted or there's some other explanation.

Does anyone remember the episode in the original series where ma and pa were sharing a bath & put ketchup on iced buns?

From memory, it was after dinner at bluff court with the tiniest piece of beef.,

Elderflower14 · 24/10/2021 20:35

Now watching... I've stayed at The Walpole Bay a few times...

longwayoff · 24/10/2021 20:56

It's poor. What a shame, HE Bates deserves better.

Elderflower14 · 25/10/2021 06:54

I really don't like the sleazy vicar!

longwayoff · 25/10/2021 10:13

And the vicar is practically Father Jack. Arse! Feck it! Rip off!

mum2jakie · 27/10/2021 22:07

Yeah the vicar is definitely OTT and out of sync with the feel of the programme
