Thanks both.

I liked that rivalry between Pauline and Mariette.

im not keen but i think it's because im used to the original and i think it will be the same for others

When is Pop going to say ‘Perfick’? Won’t be the same without it. It’s ok but I do prefer the original.

Was so looking forward to this but have just switched it off. Not a patch on the original.

I can’t put my finger in it, but think the editing may not be right, it seems very jumpy.

I was really looking forward to it but but disappointed. Bradly Walsh did say in an interview it had a slow start when they reintroduced everyone

Report
hellywelly3 · 10/10/2021 21:01

He also said they had removed the famous “perfick”

Not keen either - the original was so much better. Minor thing, but really grated- "Montgomery's" coat of arms on the rolls Royce- looked just like a transfer. Bradley Walsh just cannot come close to David Jason

Hmm, not keen but will give it a bit longer. I have just been watching the original on the drama channel. That was very halcyon days though...

So disappointed. I think Pop totally lacked the charisma he had in the original series and the book. The music score let it down too. Strangely contemporary and it jarred.

I quite enjoyed it. It’s not the original but I’m happy with it for a Sunday evening.

I saw an interview the other day when he said they only say it once or twice because it became such catchphrase before.

Agree with most. I’m disappointed. I really need some good cosy telly right now 😢

The Pop that David Jason played was a too handsy and inappropriate and I always felt bad for Ma, so that aspect I can gladly live without but Bradley Walsh isn’t genuinely warm or funny.

The Mariette actress is not good at all ☹️ Wooden and her accent!

Overall a bit hamfisted and incongruent. That scene teaching the kids about respect was very unnatural and shoe horned. They could have done it much better without making a weird sermon of it. And then to follow it with Mariette thwacking the guy on the back of the head with a lump of wood?! WTF?!

Am annoyed.

Ma is perfick though 😀

I think Ma knew he had a flirt and in some cases (poor Edith) a kiss! I loved it back in the day

I think in the original one ma knew what pop got up to and she wasn't threatened by it, almost encouraged it as she knew he was her man really and knew someone like Edith relished it and it gave her a bit of life.

With the exception of Ma Larkin, who I thought was great, most of the characters didn't ring true as 1950s characters to me. I'm not sure why.
Bradley Walsh just seemed to be playing Bradley Walsh. And was that his son playing the policeman? Nepotism at its finest.

Some of the language seemed a bit incongruous. Would a young woman have called someone a tosspot in 1950s Kent??

Very poor. Bradley Walsh miscast, Mariette too posh, all the outfits and hairstyles look artificial and unreal, somehow. Won't be watching again.

The reboot can’t possibly compete with the original. I don’t see any future Hollywood superstars in the cast and Bradley Walsh is hardly going to go on to become a Sir is he!

Mariette too posh

I seem to remember Mariette (CZJ) had a much posher accent than the rest of her family as the series progressed.
