The Chestnut Man - Netflix (Scandi Noir - a bit like The Bridge)

set in Denmark, a female and male cop are put together (against her will initially) to solve some gruesome murders.
It's very good, has a Halloween horror type feel to it but is not too grizzly for those of you who are a bit squeamish (like me!)

it's very good .... a few plot holes and loose ends I agree ..

do not watch OUTLIER ...

starts off great then slides right down the slowest moving glazier ... its time you will never get back 😳

Blatant placemark.

rosegoldwatcher · 09/10/2021 16:16

Loved Chestnut Man and enjoyed playing, "Where have I seen that actor before?"
Linus, the one who was in prison was Henrik's wheelchair bound friend in Series 4 of The Bridge.

@QueenBee52 - I know that you don't recommend it but where are you able to watch Outlier?

Yamayo · 09/10/2021 18:56

I really liked it. It started off slow but really ramped up the tension and by the end of episode 5 I was on the edge of my seat.
The main characters are really likeable, it's made me want to watch more of them.

rosegoldwatcher · 09/10/2021 19:57

lordy I don't know... I use it on my TV 😳

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 10/10/2021 11:03

A lot of the actors seemed familiar (clearly been watching too many Scandi dramas!). I actually guessed the 'perp' quite early on (behaviour seemed off). It was quite good but I think I may be reaching the end of the road with Scandi Noirs. They are relentlessly grim :-(.

rosegoldwatcher · 11/10/2021 11:15

@QueenBee52 - think you must be in the US? I'm in the UK and have had no luck finding MHz.

Thank you for trying to help though.

MalteseBubs · 12/10/2021 16:27

I've just started watching it and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I've missed a decent Scandi Noir of late

I usually always watch the original with subtitles but not feeling well so thought I'd chance it with the dubbed version which is actually really good because they have scandi accents so it sounds fairly natural

iwantavuvezela · 12/10/2021 16:32

If you feel like you need some gentle Danish TV after this (and to see the guy who plays the head cop in something else) - watch Seaside Hotel on Channel 4 - its delightful

Yes I work overseas yes ... apologies I hadn't realised 🌸

Started watching it last night as could not finish the Maid as found a few episodes in it got boring. Am loving this and also love The Bridge and The Killing. Love the lead character, she is a really good actress. Will never look at Chestnuts the same again.

TitsInAbsentia · 12/10/2021 17:16

Was this dubbed or subbed - or is there a choice? I never know what option to go for, the dubbed voices can be horrendous (squid game for current frame of reference!)

QueenBee52 · 12/10/2021 18:21

The Killing is our standard too.... the Nordic and the American versions.. it frustrated me that I compare everything to it lol

top class

You have a choice - dub or sub Smile
QueenBee52 · 12/10/2021 19:38

He was also Dicte's ex husband.

IComeInPeace · 12/10/2021 20:16

Dicte was good. Or was the show called Dagbladet?

IrishMel · 12/10/2021 20:28

I prefer subtitles as think when dubbing it takes away from the actor's acting skills and emotions. usually put subtitles on as sometimes find hard understand or miss words, tv oldish so not so clear.

ShopoholicIn · 12/10/2021 21:54

Started and finished it today..loved it.. looking for recommendations of similar shows

Rollergirl11 · 12/10/2021 22:03

We have just started watching Equinox on Netflix. It even has the same female lead in it. One episode in and looks good so far.

Just about to look/start a thread

its funny when the subtitles and dubbing are very different too 🤣

MalteseBubs · 13/10/2021 10:42

The dubbing was surprisingly good thank goodness because I got progressively worse illness wise throughout the evening so I wouldn't have been able to focus on subtitles.

I watched all the episodes

I thought I'd made some great guesses but was completely wrong on most of them, which always pleases me.

But I'll be back to watching shows in the original language with subtitles in no time.
