Agree that Ore’s jive was great. The fact that he didn’t appear to have any real dance experience made it even more amazing which is why I think that he deserved to win the glitter ball

There was a point in Rose and Giovanni's dance where she ended up sitting on his shoulders and her crotch was in his face I'm no prude but it was uncomfortable to watch. Is this normal in ballroom dancing?

No — ballroom/Latin/salsa are social dances, it would be far too dangerous to do that on a crowded floor! Lifts aren't allowed at competitions either. You only see them in exhibitions/showcases.

Re Rose and Giovanni, they did the lifts very well.

When Rose is being lifted, she doesn't have to count the rhythm in the same way.

Doing lifts is playing to her strengths

I'm sure Len and Arlene used to do this at first? But it's never even mentioned now. IIRC Len was a right stickler for an illegal lift 😂

They still should deduct marks if it's one of the normal 10.

They never used to put lifts in the salsa, and American Smooth was only allowed two, which has gone up to three at some point.

Every time I see a lift I think they're brave / foolhardy.

There's a lot of repeated songs, films and franchises in that list. My main problem with the theme weeks is that it ramps up the producers tendency to recycle things you've seen before, and often very recently. The predominance of children's films is also very annoying. I'm not expecting a festival of Ingmar Bergman and Ken Loach, but maybe a few more grown-up or imaginative choices would break the monotony, especially when classic films tend to contain really famous songs.

@EsmaCannonball, definitely agree. They could invoke classic canons that everyone recongises, from westerns to Frank Sinatra / Gene Kelly films, to some themes from the Middle East and Asia.

One I have watched most would be Ed Ball's gangnam salsa. He was never properly credited with those lifts.

Never seen smooth salsa on Strictly as good as street vids. All lifts no substance.

Surely a Vienese waltz would work better for once upon a dream?
