RTD to return to head Dr Who

Well, who'd a thunk it? Cat among pigeons time or what?

We've been watching through them on a Saturday evening and I'm still a fan, despite the daleks and the dei ex machina. Quietly excited.

Anyone else any thoughts?

If this is true then I think it's a good thing. I have found the past couple of series have lost their way a bit. Think back to when DT was the doctor and the storylines of late haven't been a patch on the ones he got.

I'm giving this an enthusiastic two thumbs up here!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/09/2021 15:40

DD has just started getting into Dr Who at 15! I'm delighted! We've just started the Matt Smith Dr Who seasons. She's loving Amy Pond and Rory!

DPotter · 24/09/2021 15:41

I must admit to preferring RTD simply because there are more story arcs across not just one series but several. Should be interesting

TeamSpike · 24/09/2021 15:43

I'm a big Dr who fan and am delighted that RTD is returning. But from what I have seen its just for the 60th anniversary special in 2023 so he won't be doing the next series 😢

EvilRingahBitch · 24/09/2021 15:44

Blimey!

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/09/2021 15:45

Hurray.

TeamSpike · 24/09/2021 15:45

Correction he will be doing the series after the anniversary as well. Hooray!

BarefootHippieChick · 24/09/2021 15:50

This is good news! In all honesty, I've not enjoyed many episodes since the David Tennant/Matt Smith days. Ratings have been falling though, which I guess the BBC are well aware of. Crap storylines coupled with doctors that just don't....work, imo. (Couldn't take to Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Foster just seems too breathless and bumbling a lot of the time.)

Mogloveseggs · 24/09/2021 16:09

Brilliant news!

My god - I needed some good news.

Howshouldibehave · 24/09/2021 16:19

I haven’t thought it was any good since Matt smith left. Loved the golden age of DT most!

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 24/09/2021 20:45

Didn’t truly believe it until it was all over the BBC news.

So delighted.

Such a long time to wait …

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 24/09/2021 20:46

And they’re essentially saying he’s back for good.

🙏🏽

MichelleScarn · 24/09/2021 20:49

Wooooo!! The storylines have been appalling of late! Bring back the magic of Clara, Amy, Rory and the Matt Smith and even Capaldi Doctors!

Winecheesesleep · 24/09/2021 20:52

I was so happy and surprised to see this! When RTD stepped down I was quite excited and looking forward to the Moffat era but with hindsight RTD was so good and had so much heart. I really liked Matt Smith but since then I haven't really been feeling it.

Talisin · 24/09/2021 20:53

They were all Moffat era though…
jollygreenpea · 24/09/2021 20:54

I think this is good news.

Christopher Eccleston was very good, David Tennant brilliant (no one has been better), didn't particularly like Matt Smith, didn't bother watching Peter Capaldi, I really tried to like Jodie Whittaker but it was far to woke for me.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 24/09/2021 21:12

Jodie Foster just seems too breathless

Grin I would've loved a breathless Jodie Foster over Jodie Whittaker daft gurning and taking about her 'Fam'

Ryan's monotone dullness was bad too.

Agree with jollygreenpea about it going woke. So much virtue signalling and no substance.

LukeEvansWife · 24/09/2021 21:17

Omg that is brilliant. I was having an Twitter convo with one of the writers the other day and said that the RTD years were sublime!

SteveArnottsWaistcoat · 24/09/2021 21:17

Great news!

Makes sense that there will be no RTD series until 2023. Think about it. It takes a year to fill a series. This next one will start soon and probably take us into 2022. Then they will film the following series and the 60th to air around the end of 2023.

Also, I bet they keep us waiting over who is going to be the next Doctor and it’ll be revealed in the 60th special.

LukeEvansWife · 24/09/2021 21:18

Moffat fucked it up because the story arcs were too complex. I like to think I understand basic stuff but I still don't know what the Matt Smith years were about

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 24/09/2021 21:18

Did RTD allowing the uninvited dick flopping or was that before his time. My feelings on the matter depend on this.

LukeEvansWife · 24/09/2021 21:30

There wasn't actually a 'before his time' though - he was the show runner when the show came back.

I understand the JB stuff was a running joke amongst the cast at the time

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 24/09/2021 21:35

Lukes so his return is distasteful. All we need for bad things to happen is for the good to look the other way.
