Watching it for a 2nd time. I actually went looking for the dvd just before it came on BBCiplayer as I've been wanting to watch it for years and I wasn't disappointed. ManBearPig is a bit questionable 😂
Anyone else seen it?

Yes and I loved it. Really atmospheric!

fedup078 · 19/09/2021 18:13

@sallyjuliet yes it's very well made. Looks like it's had a lot of money spent on it

Mind I also recently watched North Water and now I'm having trouble separating the two in my head

iklboo · 19/09/2021 18:33

Loved it. Jarrod Harris is brilliant in everything we've seen him in. Great cast overall.

fedup078 · 19/09/2021 18:47

@iklboo yep it's has a cracking cast too

Not long after I first watched it I came across an article about unearthing some of the bodies and they were perfectly preserved due to the temperature, some of the names were familiar from the show and I think there is a scene where these actual bodies were buried

OP posts:
iklboo · 19/09/2021 20:25

Yes I saw that. Googled it and there's a museum display with photos of the mummified bodies.

iklboo · 19/09/2021 20:28

Fascinating - don't open if you're a bit squeamish.

FromBeanToCupYouFuckUp · 19/09/2021 22:47

I loved it, I think I might rewatch it. What’s the North Water like in comparison OP? I don’t want to go on the thread in case there’s spoilers.

ohthatbloodycat · 20/09/2021 00:08

North Water is far, far superior in my opinion. It doesn't drag on, in the same way that the Terror does. The characters are more interesting and convincing too.

ohthatbloodycat · 20/09/2021 00:09

Albeit darker!
I honestly loved North Water. Can you tell? Grin

Thanks for that link - was really interesting!
fedup078 · 20/09/2021 06:38

@FromBeanToCupYouFuckUp tbh I sort of only half watched North Water while I was busy with something else but it seemed pretty good

We watched The Terror earlier this year and really enjoyed it. We have recorded North Water and are looking forward to watching it.

Nitgel · 20/09/2021 06:43

Lol at Ridley scott does take some artistic licences.

Still I loved the Terror that linked site looks ian interesting read.

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 20/09/2021 06:48

DH watched it, I wasn't interested and chose to read a book.

I found my attention being dragged from the book more and more as the series went on. By the end of the series I was having to google the bits I'd missed at the start. Utterly gripping.

fedup078 · 20/09/2021 06:51

@Nitgel hahaha yeah I laughed at that too

Yes I really enjoyed this. I thought it had an interesting mix of being a historical drama, thriller / mystery and having an insight into colonialism / empire building.

There's a docu drama on amazon about a ship which got stuck in ice on amazon prime Shackletons captain. Its on my watch list as the terror made me interested in these risks that were taken and their results.

I'm having an op today and looking at 4 weeks off work I'd thought about re watching the terror actually.

Neonplant · 20/09/2021 06:57

Ooh aslo we're going to start North water as our next box set. Love Stephen Graham!

BaconAndAvocado · 20/09/2021 09:35

Loved The Terror.
Acting, direction, script all outstanding.

Can’t wait to watch North Water now!

Is this just called Shackleton, with Kenneth Branagh? It's brilliant.
Neonplant · 20/09/2021 14:03

@RampantIvy that's a different one just Googled it. Might watch that too!

Pootle40 · 23/09/2021 19:58

The Terror was fantastic. In a different league to north water (IMO)

Bobsyer · 29/09/2021 22:46

Oooh I'm just reading the book right now - didn't know there was a tv show, will definitely have a look for that.

Neonplant · 30/09/2021 08:18

I can confirm I really enjoyed the North Water. I think for those who enjoyed the terror it's a good watch.

TrampolineForMrKite · 30/09/2021 08:24

DH and I got hooked on this- watched six episodes in one night but found the last few episodes a bit disappointing. Also didn’t think they should have shown us the monster. It just made it ridiculous. But there was a lot to love and Jared Harris was great (and weirdly sexy).
