What's it on?

Standrewsschool · 15/09/2021 21:30

Yes. I’m not surprised there are more victims. However, my mind boggles how they got away with killing them and then hiding the bodies.

Standrewsschool · 15/09/2021 21:30

It’s on now.

Buggerthebotox · 15/09/2021 21:45

I think it's feasible that there were more victims, but scant actual evidence.

PinkWaterBottle2021 · 15/09/2021 21:48

What channel please?

PinkWaterBottle2021 · 15/09/2021 21:49

Should explain I'd like to watch on catch up if possible.

I heard something a few years back and there's even a website I think about it, but that these murders were linked to Black Magic - there was a group that did them and that's why there was a jar (I think?) in Rose's bedroom filled with semen stained knickers of men (black I think) called her Black Magic jar or Black Magic Room.

If, as they mentioned last night, a lot of girls they picked up were in care, if they ran away etc then easy to say 'oh X ran away from her care home' and I think people didn't follow up so much on missing people back then like now.

It all came to nothing though. Apparently just sensationalist TV.

Did it? I got the feeling about that towards the end of the programme.

I found it a bit distasteful how they seemed to be doing it more as a programme and less to get the police to reopen files etc so if it is just sensationalist TV personally whoever is involved should be disgusted with themselves - the poor families of the current victims or possible missing people. Sad

I don’t think It is actually done in a sensationalist style. More like investigative journalism.

I think that if it encourages a bit more proper investigation of the circumstances of these missing people, who are potential victims of the Wests, then that is not a bad thing.

HauntedDishcloth · 16/09/2021 09:44

I live in the area & when this programme was being filmed, the local fb pages had quite a few posts from people saying they or their older relatives knew of jobs FW had done where he could have easily disposed of remains, such as concreting a garage floor. The claims came across as plausible unfortunately.

But if it all comes to nothing as @sociallydistanced said then it is really sensationalist journalism.

I've read Gordon Burns' Happy Like Murderers about the Wests and that really goes into detail.

I mean it was investigative journalism last night too but at the end of the programme I got a distinct vibe it was to draw more viewers back (of course).

That is really scary to think of that.

Trouble was with Fred West apparently according to last night's programme he didn't only work in Gloucestershire area but other areas like Nottingham too. So any missing girl/woman in those areas could be a victim.

My fairly distant (but in touch with them) cousins live in Gloucestershire but they just said Forest of Dean is a bit of a strange place.

The camera work is very weird. Every shot is jiggling and jagging all over the place. Nauseating.

Buggerthebotox · 16/09/2021 10:39

"The camera work is very weird. Every shot is jiggling and jagging all over the place. Nauseating".

I thought it was just me overdoing the gin Grin.

I think it's plausible that FW committed more murders than we think - he probably DID have the opportunity, the motive and the means - but this team seem to be grasping at straws imho in order to create sensationalist telly out of very little.

And the diggiing up of the cafe is old news anyway isn't it (unless I'm mistaken).

Similar claims have been made about possible other murders being committed by Peter Sutcliffe - all very plausible but unlikely that further action will ever be taken now.

BodgertheJogger · 16/09/2021 10:42

Both of them are total wrong 'uns.
According to another documentary on them, Rose West denies everything and is a total narcissist. Cunt.

I'll just leave the satanism stuff here.

This is what I thought in the end - grasping at straws by the team. Which to be honest isn't fair to friends and family of the victims or possible ones.

Rose has always denied everything and I think is a narcissist. In the book Happy Like Murderers (a hard but good read) - she keeps on denying and so does he until he's presented with 'proof'.

The book looks into their backgrounds - child abuse by one or both of their parents/siblings in both their cases but this still doesn't excuse the horror of what they've done. However, bringing John West into it means that he was probably abused too. Always thought one of their siblings on either side was involved.

For some strange reason even though I have these relatives (found after a few years) living in Gloucester I don't feel a strong draw to visit the place - never been yet. An ex of mine said to me 'Gloucester isn't all about the Wests' which is true - but knowing who could be buried where is chilling. One could say that about other celebrated murder victims though and unknown burial places.

Anyone watch last night's?

Gonnagetgoing · 17/09/2021 10:05

@Buggerthebotox

Anyone watch last night's?
I did yes.

Quite unsatisfying I thought and a pity but not a surprise that the farm wouldn’t let them search there (where the cadaver dog picked up two strong scents/leads) and then the police seemed to think no point in searching more. Pity the cafe didn’t reveal anything, the blue was part of a pipe etc. Poor Caroline Bastholme’s family Sad

However, I’m not sure if Fred saying all this stuff about bodies being buried elsewhere when he was alive, was he telling some sick lies or not?

OP posts:
Buggerthebotox · 17/09/2021 10:45

I agree with you.

Even if there's anything to be found, it's unlikely the Police are going to fund any searches when the perpetrator has been identified.

As for the outcome of the cafe investigation, that's old news. Interesting though, particularly the discovery of the blue pipe.
