Hello,

Has anyone watched and finished Clickbait on Netflix? What did you think? Who did you think was the killer?

Wehadabetamax · 04/09/2021 15:17

I thought it was great. So many twists, I don't think there was any way to know the killer until the end.

BewareTheLibrarians · 04/09/2021 15:22

I really enjoyed it. Didn’t figure out the killer at all until the last episode, and even then thought it was going to be X not Y. (Trying not to give spoilers! Grin ).

househuntinginthesouth · 04/09/2021 16:07

Same, thought it was great. Every episode trying to convince us it was that person. Don't think there's anyway we could've known who the real killer was. I was so sure it was the best friend.
I should've added spoiler alert to the title as really wanted to discuss properly haha.

You could report your first post to MNHQ and ask them to add a spoiler into the title? Then we can discuss it without holding back Grin

jewel1968 · 04/09/2021 20:21

I watched it cos I like the actress that played the sister. I find her very relatable. I liked Clickbait for about the first two thirds. I dunno I just didn't like the ending. I found it bit far fetched.

icelollycraving · 05/09/2021 10:55

Pia’s energy was exhausting. It must be knackering.
I watched it whilst clearing several baskets of ironing. I do have a question though, the girl the son was chatting to, was she the same one who ‘leaked’ the video in the first episode? I was losing my train of thought by then.

BewareTheLibrarians · 05/09/2021 14:51

@icelollycraving That’s a good question, and I’m not sure.. I had assumed that the brother who blames Nick for the death of his sister sent it to that kind of underground YouTube type website. But now I’m thinking that I might have missed something in the first episode!

cushioncovers · 05/09/2021 17:40

I enjoyed it. Didn't see the killer coming. My only complaint is that Pia got on my nerves.

BewareTheLibrarians · 05/09/2021 19:52

*Didn’t see the killer coming.”
Neither did Nick Grin (I’m so sorry, that’s a terrible joke Blush

Whattheflecker · 05/09/2021 19:56

I don't understand the initial messages (from Mandy I think) that made the killer start responding. Was he on dating sites or not?! Aaarghh!

cushioncovers · 05/09/2021 22:25

Beware 😂

Ok, this was bugging me so I had a quick rewatch of those bits and no - the girl who showed the leaked video in episode 1 was “JenDaVlogger” a YouTuber/instagrammer type person.

The girl the son was chatting to in episode 7 was Alison, who had social anxiety so wasn’t going to school and spent a lot of time online. Definitely different people.

1 mystery down, 99 more to solve Grin

BewareTheLibrarians · 06/09/2021 00:27

whattheflecker

He was on a dating site. The killer knew his password already, then a notification from the dating site came up on his phone. The killer logged on to the dating site, as Nick obviously used the same password for everything Wink and saw his chat with Mandy. Then carried it on and started up flirty conversations with other women.

What I don’t get though is how he didn’t notice as the notifications popping up on his phone (from the other women) straight away. I guess if you’re married you’d have notifications off, but at the point the killer saw his phone the notifications were on. Weird!

BewareTheLibrarians · 06/09/2021 00:47

Wait I don’t mean the killer do I? I’m so tired Grin I mean “D” knew his password and started replying to the other women. The killer obviously was pretty clueless until the night of the murder.

icelollycraving · 06/09/2021 01:40

@BewareTheLibrarians thank you Grin

IdrisArslanian · 07/09/2021 18:45

I have been enjoying this as an easy to watch suspense thriller. But the character of Pia and the actress playing her just ruins it for me. She is obnoxious, loud, indiscreet, self-obsessed...and yet supposed to be a heroine in some way? And what is with the ridiculous hair and same outfit in every scene? Frankly the subplot where she has a thing going on with the handsome detective (and the suggestion that Nick's cute friend from work has also harboured a crush on her) I find ridiculous. This is not to say that an actress has to be conventionally pretty to be a love interest but she seems to have no redeeming qualities to me and the actress is not up to subtly communicating anything. Am I the only one?

I had a look at the actress's bio and she's Hollywood Royalty, the granddaughter of Elia Kazan and married to Paul Dano. Perhaps that explains casting her here. I have never seen her anywhere else but I gather she's quite popular.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 07/09/2021 18:51

Found ending a bit daft

workshy44 · 07/09/2021 19:04

I think Pia is the best thing in it. I found the first 4 plus episodes v slow but it kicked into gear then and the ending was v surprising

LegendaryReady · 08/09/2021 18:42

As with a lot of these series I found it watchable enough but then the story became all a bit ridiculous in the last episode.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 10/09/2021 10:25

It was watchable but agree with ending. Although I hadn't 'got it' which is something.

Hels20 · 11/09/2021 14:22

Agree with PP that first episodes were slow (in fact, had to really push through on Episode 3 which I thought was the worst). I hadn’t picked up that Emily Beasley was unhinged (although her “ask” for a discount was a bit of a clue). Thought the last 3 episodes were good. Not sure what was relevant about good looking detective being Muslim - other than to try to put Muslims in a good light? Did it add anything to story?

BewareTheLibrarians · 12/09/2021 11:48

I don’t think it was about showing Muslims in a good light. It was partly about the conflict of him being a detective on the case but also close to Pia as a friend. He knew more than he should have known, because of the information he got from Pia (Also from the dodgy website where people were trying to track Nick.) He was hoping that would give him an advantage at work so he could get promoted to homicide.

So then his religion came into play when he accused his boss of not promoting him/ respecting him because he was Muslim, and his boss told him it was nothing to do with discrimination, it was just because he wasn’t very good at his job.

He could have been any discriminated-against group and the theme would be the same. Am I being held back because of my race/religion/sex, or am I just not good enough?

Plus, he found Nick! That added a fair bit to the story Smile

Frogsonglue · 13/09/2021 03:31

I really like Pia, I find her very relatable. She's flawed but genuine. I think she's beautiful too, I believe the hot detective (who is also very flawed) would fall for her.

ThisIsJeopardy · 18/09/2021 08:14

Finished this last night. It was enjoyable and kept my interest, but the ending was so disappointing.

A mystery with a twist is fun when it turns out that the culprit was there all along, hiding in plain sight, and the viewer can think back on little hints you might have picked up on, but didn't. Instead with this, we got seven episodes of character development and red herrings (good), and then a character we've barely seen and a brand new storyline, introduced at the end just to offer a neat solution. What lazy shit. Nothing clever about it, so what's the fun in that?

desperatehousewife21 · 18/09/2021 08:36

I felt the same, liked it right up until the ending. I’m not saying they shouldn’t have had that person as the killer, but they should have featured slightly more throughout the series but in a ‘background’ type way, rather than show it all in the last episode.
