The six-part drama from World Productions (Line Of Duty, The Pembrokeshire Murders, Save Me, Bodyguard) stars Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie, Shaun Evans, Martin Compston and Paterson Joseph.

When a crew member is found dead on board the Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil, police in Scotland are called in to investigate. The catch? The UK’s nuclear deterrent must remain unbroken, so the submarine stays on patrol and Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) must go aboard to begin an investigation. Although the death was written off as an accidental overdose, Amy suspects foul play. But when the crew close ranks in the face of Amy’s questioning, a new threat overshadows her inquiry.

Vigil
Vigil’s stellar ensemble cast also features Anjli Mohindra, Connor Swindells, Adam James, Gary Lewis, Stephen Dillane, Lolita Chakrabarti, Daniel Portman, Lorne MacFadyen and Lauren Lyle.

The fictional six-part series is written and created by Bafta nominated writer Tom Edge, with episodes by Ed Macdonald and Chandni Lakhani. It is directed by Bafta winner James Strong, and Bafta nominee Isabelle Sieb. Vigil is produced by Angie Daniell, executive produced by Simon Heath and Jake Lushington for World Productions, Gaynor Holmes for the BBC, James Strong and Tom Edge.

Vigil
Vigil is set and was filmed in Scotland, and is supported by the National Lottery through Screen Scotland. International distribution is handled by ITV Studios.

@Egghead68

Why did they waste all that time talking about the note abs her theories when they had only 15 mins to get out of there??
My guess is so that the coxswain knows Burke's replacement is a badun, and therefore will justify the plot device of them (unbelievably) being able to save her. (Or being able to identify him if the writers go down the really bold route of killing her off!)
mum2jakie · 19/09/2021 22:18

I think you'd be banging like buggery on the pipe never mind trying to worry about your dot dot dashes!! Sure she'll bang out a message naming the killer though...

CrumbsThatsQuick · 19/09/2021 22:19

3 taps on the door to get out... that was the Morse?

Booknooks · 19/09/2021 22:20

Eurgh this ep was too much for me. I know it's only a TV programme, but no way would she have been able to don the hazmat and waltz in, or be involved in any of the procedures. As presumably the whole ship isn't involved they could have just had a wet behind the ears new navy copper flown in and it would have been the same. As for asking them if they know morse code Grin

JanglyBeads · 19/09/2021 22:25

Ah, thanks @Wetcappuccino! So is that just a reference to his marital infidelity or something more??

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/09/2021 22:26

@Pebble21uk

Amy & Cox'n had worked out it was Doward (the guy who replaced Burke)... so my guess is that Cox'n manages to utter 'Doward' with his dying breath and then they will realise that Amy is alone with him in the torpedo bay... and someone will rescue her as she's still managing to hold her breath under water.

Guess I've got to wait a week to find out if I'm right!

Ooh @Pebble21uk you could be right

And it looks like China could be setting up Russia as the fall guy.
Would suit China perfectly to have NATO & Russia at each other's throats.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/09/2021 22:27

Omg. That was exciting

Poor jaded dad.

So the baddie was the Burke’s replacement

She won’t drown

Or will she …….

Twice trapped in water

Poppy didn’t look much older so the affair between two woman couldn’t have been for long. Esp as grandma mentioned 4mth custody

JanglyBeads · 19/09/2021 22:30

It was slightly odd when poppy hugged Kirstin (not so much that she did it but the significance it seemed to be given, it does all point to Amy not surviving?

TokyoSushi · 19/09/2021 22:30

30 minute delay here, just finished, yikes!

helpamamaout · 19/09/2021 22:31

There was no nerve gas. Cook poisoned same way as Burke. No nerve gas in the missiles area. The idea of it was only a means of getting rid of Amy.

Piggywaspushed · 19/09/2021 22:33

I knew it would be Doward when he was pointedly named at his listening post earlier in the episode. More Chekhov's Gun.

JanglyBeads · 19/09/2021 22:33

But the coxswain’s affected, if not dying , so there was?

FreezerBird · 19/09/2021 22:37

I'm sure that's right, but tonight was the first evening I really wished I could just watch the next episode!

I did also say bit flippantly early in the series that someone would probably end up in a torpedo tube but goodness me, that was tense.

mumwon · 19/09/2021 22:41

so she carries the poison in aplastic bag with a a bag tie to make it air tight??? excuse me (donkey years ago - another one of my odd experiences!) had a lecture on using an NBC suit -

I seem to remember atropine was used in emergency even than & was uses in Salisbury? Atropine would surely be in the emergency medical kit?it has other uses

helpamamaout · 19/09/2021 22:44

I don't think there was, I think he was faking being unwell.

Dowald was with cox and others? Is not him with Amy.. someone else (plus that person not wearing full suit as there was no nerve gas imo)

Fenelladepompom · 19/09/2021 22:46

What happened to the sailor who gave Burke mouth to mouth and then felt unwell? Not been mentioned in weeks.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/09/2021 22:46

I don’t think he was faking

mumwon · 19/09/2021 22:50

Seriously they would have to return to port - trying to decontaminate a sub would be impossible -

thaegumathteth · 19/09/2021 22:50

I'm 99.9% sure it was Doward with Amy. We saw his face.

helpamamaout · 19/09/2021 23:00

We saw the guy's face but I'm sure it wasn't him.

Didn't the camera cut back to the group scene and Doward was there?

helpamamaout · 19/09/2021 23:01

We need a screenshot of thd face!

JanglyBeads · 19/09/2021 23:06

Oh yeah something needs to explain the lack of hazmat suit on tube guy. Are they all in league after all? Also there’s still something odd about the young dark haired guy who knew about bleach neutralising sarin!

It's definitely Doward with Amy at the end by the torpedo tubes.

The man with the coxswain is Hadlow.

That’s pretty much word for word what I said to DH.

Wasn’t replacement guy/Doward also the chap who said there was nothing within 40 miles on the sonar/radar thing?
