The six-part drama from World Productions (Line Of Duty, The Pembrokeshire Murders, Save Me, Bodyguard) stars Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie, Shaun Evans, Martin Compston and Paterson Joseph.

When a crew member is found dead on board the Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil, police in Scotland are called in to investigate. The catch? The UK’s nuclear deterrent must remain unbroken, so the submarine stays on patrol and Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) must go aboard to begin an investigation. Although the death was written off as an accidental overdose, Amy suspects foul play. But when the crew close ranks in the face of Amy’s questioning, a new threat overshadows her inquiry.

Vigil
Vigil’s stellar ensemble cast also features Anjli Mohindra, Connor Swindells, Adam James, Gary Lewis, Stephen Dillane, Lolita Chakrabarti, Daniel Portman, Lorne MacFadyen and Lauren Lyle.

The fictional six-part series is written and created by Bafta nominated writer Tom Edge, with episodes by Ed Macdonald and Chandni Lakhani. It is directed by Bafta winner James Strong, and Bafta nominee Isabelle Sieb. Vigil is produced by Angie Daniell, executive produced by Simon Heath and Jake Lushington for World Productions, Gaynor Holmes for the BBC, James Strong and Tom Edge.

Vigil
Vigil is set and was filmed in Scotland, and is supported by the National Lottery through Screen Scotland. International distribution is handled by ITV Studios.

Great ending! It was Burke’s replacement I think.

TheRebelle · 19/09/2021 22:03

Nightmare!

JanglyBeads · 19/09/2021 22:04

Actually, the Chinese plus the Russians?

purplecarrot23 · 19/09/2021 22:04

It would be a bold plot to get rid of her character that way! That would be a first.

RandomDent · 19/09/2021 22:05

That’s like that Radiohead video.

squiddylama · 19/09/2021 22:05

God that is my worst nightmare!

JanglyBeads · 19/09/2021 22:06

If she had MH problems before all of this, what state’s she going to be in after that?! Probably not stable enough for joint custody.

JustDanceAddict · 19/09/2021 22:07

That was horrible!

KillingMeDeftly · 19/09/2021 22:08

Unless someone figures out what's going on in the next minute or so it's game over for Amy. Maybe she'll get killed off and Kirsten will end up unmasking the killer.

JanglyBeads · 19/09/2021 22:09

There was one line I missed, don’t know if it’s important, probably not -
when the doc was examining coxswain after he’d showered, he said something wasn’t in good condition or something, I heard an s what was it?

mum2jakie · 19/09/2021 22:09

Am I the only one that thought today's episode was a bit too OTT? Didn't really need to have her trapped in a water filled tube as well as everything else that happened!

JustDanceAddict · 19/09/2021 22:10

@Violetroselily

Yeah it's the guy who flew in with her

That's my nightmare planned for tonight then

I was just thinking that. Sweet dreams folks 💧
JanglyBeads · 19/09/2021 22:11

I guess her never coming back would justify the large proportion of that episode given over to Kirsten’s visit to poppy and all the flashbacks???
Cos I can’t see how anyone’s going to get her out of there in time!

Watermelonsugarhi · 19/09/2021 22:11

She could die and the cox tell the other crew what amy thought from the note and who she thought it was. He may die but then the other crew would know and then the rest i dont know ...........

faithfulbird20 · 19/09/2021 22:12

Omg that last scene triggered some really bad anxiety for me. You're right @mum2jakie too OTT...

Hope they don't make next weeks finale like the LOD finale where they just crammed everything and ended it quickly...

JanglyBeads · 19/09/2021 22:12

I mean the whole idea that they’d have let her go into the contaminated area was absolutely ridiculous of course.

Wetcappuccino · 19/09/2021 22:14

His soul - she was checking his pupils and he said the eyes are the window to the soul.

TheChosenTwo · 19/09/2021 22:14

I watched the first episode and she looked like the first person to be chucked out of the helicopter and Burke’s replacement didn’t come out after her either. Obviously he did make it on there because there he is but for ages I thought he was just escorting her because he kind of just disappeared.

ImFree2doasiwant · 19/09/2021 22:15

Is this where the morse code comes in handy?

TheChosenTwo · 19/09/2021 22:15

I don’t think she dies. Someone will go charging in there and release her, he’ll say he had to wash her in water straight away.
No, maybe not.
I don’t think she’s going to die though.

EatSprayGlove · 19/09/2021 22:15

It's going to be a long week til that final episode!

TheChosenTwo · 19/09/2021 22:16

Oh yeah, the morse code!

SinoohXaenaHide · 19/09/2021 22:16

You know "Chekhov's Gun" - if the existence of a gun is mentioned in act 1 of a play then someone will definitely be shot in Act 3.

Well she hasn't done anything special with Morse Code yet.

Pebble21uk · 19/09/2021 22:18

Amy & Cox'n had worked out it was Doward (the guy who replaced Burke)... so my guess is that Cox'n manages to utter 'Doward' with his dying breath and then they will realise that Amy is alone with him in the torpedo bay... and someone will rescue her as she's still managing to hold her breath under water.

Guess I've got to wait a week to find out if I'm right!

thaegumathteth · 19/09/2021 22:18

What I don't understand is how we're the hazmat suits ok to be used given they'd been in the contaminated area ?
