The six-part drama from World Productions (Line Of Duty, The Pembrokeshire Murders, Save Me, Bodyguard) stars Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie, Shaun Evans, Martin Compston and Paterson Joseph.

When a crew member is found dead on board the Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil, police in Scotland are called in to investigate. The catch? The UK’s nuclear deterrent must remain unbroken, so the submarine stays on patrol and Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) must go aboard to begin an investigation. Although the death was written off as an accidental overdose, Amy suspects foul play. But when the crew close ranks in the face of Amy’s questioning, a new threat overshadows her inquiry.

Vigil’s stellar ensemble cast also features Anjli Mohindra, Connor Swindells, Adam James, Gary Lewis, Stephen Dillane, Lolita Chakrabarti, Daniel Portman, Lorne MacFadyen and Lauren Lyle.

The fictional six-part series is written and created by Bafta nominated writer Tom Edge, with episodes by Ed Macdonald and Chandni Lakhani. It is directed by Bafta winner James Strong, and Bafta nominee Isabelle Sieb. Vigil is produced by Angie Daniell, executive produced by Simon Heath and Jake Lushington for World Productions, Gaynor Holmes for the BBC, James Strong and Tom Edge.

Vigil is set and was filmed in Scotland, and is supported by the National Lottery through Screen Scotland. International distribution is handled by ITV Studios.

What is the point of the bits of sexual tension between coxswain and Silva? Combined with the flashbacks to her relationship with Longacre I feel like it's building up to something but not sure what

I believe MC filmed his bit while quarantining before filming series 6 of LOD. May just have been doing a favour for Jed Mercurio. He's a big draw.

I’d say that MC is only a big draw if you watched Line of Duty.

I didn’t and MC is much less interesting than either Suranne Jones or Rose Leslie (and I didn’t watch Dr Foster or GoT).

Ha, yes, DH and I were both saying last night that it would probably end up being a “murder on the orient express” type set up. I see others agree!

But what about the cooks son being released early from jail in Indonesia? Someone must have paid for or negotiated that. Someone with money or influence. Did he supply the poison, and cook brought it on board?

Then again the captain is generally sensible and decent, so it’s probably him!

I reckon to locate the poisoner, Silva just needs to do a spot check as to who’s got shaky hands on board. They way they’re spilling that stuff over clothing and bedding.

Whoever you are, take a bit more care, for goodness sake.

Maybe the poisoner is deliberately laying a false trail? Eventually the only person without poison residue on their bedding / shirt / undercrackers will turn out to be the culprit?

I was “yay” mainly for Shaun Evans, so glad he’s got a complex part.

But as above, unless it’s a double bluff, he seemed far too pinned as the Big Bad Man last episode for it to be him. Some dodgy doings yes, but not the big stuff.

New Shrine pod is out btw, it’s hilarious. Wait till you hear about Gillian and what her goldfish pals get up to if let loose in a lake 😂. And on Twitter, it seems that Paterson Joseph, Vigil’s captain no less, is also a fan.

Right. I've got it.

MC isn't really dead. It's all a hoax / conspiracy. He just holds his breath when Suranne looks at him. They sneak him in the torpedo tube before she gets there. When she's gone, out he pops and hides behind a pipe / in a cupboard.

Suranne is the Russian. She's a sleeper agent under hypnosis awaiting the Activation phrase. Which is ' Bloody Johnson'.

Coxswain is undercover MI5 & thinks Suranne has been activated, which is why he keeps jumping on top of her.

Rose Leslie is really a 57 year old bloke in his mum's basement playing a VR game.

Doctor is still Rani from Sarah Jane Adventures. The sub is actually a TARDIS, which is why it seems bigger on the outside. BUT she's married to Sacha Dharwan in real life, who is The Master and that's why she swapped out the pee samples.
