OMG. The people on these programmes have no self respect. Why would you live in a house with so much mess? Their kids are embarrassed,

I'm watching and felt the parents, especially the mum didn't realise the amount of mess was unusual. I'm not a minimalist but the amount of stuff crammed into some of the rooms was overwhelming.

MrsDThomas · 19/08/2021 20:20

Its not the mess. Its the dirt and grime. Her pans and chopping boards were minging.

OP posts:
55BrilliantColours · 19/08/2021 20:21

Her pans?

User7458 · 19/08/2021 20:24

That kitchen stuff looked awful and the great pile of cereal boxes propped on the side. What is it with the toys, they looked like they were for a young child and the daughter looked quite old for them.

MrsDThomas · 19/08/2021 20:25

Did you not see her frying pans in the warehouse on the floor? They need chucking. So dirty.

OP posts:
MrsDThomas · 19/08/2021 20:26

She does a playgroup in her house. Not sure why.

I cant see she’s ever been house proud TBH.

I think that it meant why not his pans, though in our house if DH was in charge of pans we would probably have a couple of old manky ones that were never replaced.

55BrilliantColours · 19/08/2021 20:31

Or pans that any of the adults in the house used.
Let's face it, that's a house full of grown ups. They all need to take responsibility.
17 and 19 year olds hiding in their rooms and too embarrassed to invite friends round?

MrsDThomas · 19/08/2021 20:31

🙄

OP posts:
55BrilliantColours · 19/08/2021 20:31

Pathetic nonsense

CabbagesGreen · 19/08/2021 20:33

Oh I wanted to watch this but I have an aversion to Nick Knowles. Is he in it much?

MrsDThomas · 19/08/2021 20:33

To be fair most teens live in their bedrooms. I gave a lovely house and mine prefer their rooms, but the mess and lack of cleaning certainly doesn’t help

Sugarandtime · 20/08/2021 07:05

Driven past the house many a time and it’s always looked a right state.
Always surprised me as the dad runs a successful sandwich shop with good hygiene ratings, clearly don’t follow the same practices at home.

Nobloat21 · 20/08/2021 07:10

I saw this on bbc breakfast yesterday and thought it looked really good. Not sure of Nick Knowles either.

Bimblybomeyelash · 20/08/2021 07:19

Nick Knowles gives me the creeps.

lorca · 20/08/2021 07:24

I think Nick Knowles is really good with people, always says the right thing.

However - these sort of programs always feature people who have some mental health issues; in this case caused by the wife's operation. She became a 'crafter' which means lots of stuff and bits which might be useful in the future...

BUt yeah, the dust! The dirt and cobwebs that must be under all that crap. How she can run a creche/playschool from there I have no idea.

KittyMcKitty · 20/08/2021 07:31

@Sugarandtime that’s not kind - I drive past their house pretty much daily and it looks like all the others on the road!

I think it just shows how life and some traumatic events can overwhelm people and you can struggle to find the way out. I know mum from toddler club days and they’re very kind people.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 20/08/2021 12:27

There's a reason that people hoard like this, she's obv had a very rough time with cancer and crafting was her therapy, it's escalated from there.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 20/08/2021 12:53

I saw a trailer and would have watched but I just cannot stand Nick Knowles.

If you think that house was bad you should watch some of the American documentaries about hard core hoarders in the US Shock.

Or "Filthy House SOS" - another favourite! I watch them so I don't feel so bad about my own disinterest in housework Grin.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 20/08/2021 13:04

I'm sorry OP but I work as a professional declutterer and I have to take issue with your initial comment. Having a class at home is a reflection of your mental state, and not down to laziness. Most of the people who callers in to help them have had some kind of significant problem in their past often a bereavement but it could be other things such as anxiety, depression, relationship breakdowns and many other things. Sometimes they have to contend with issues like ADHD as well. It is absolutely not about laziness or lack of consideration for others. I think your comments show a lack of empathy and understanding for other people and very judgemental attitude indeed.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 20/08/2021 13:05

Sorry my phone garbled that - should say "having a cluttered home"

Winniewonka · 20/08/2021 22:07

I enjoyed this show but both this and the Stacey Solomon one -off seem to be based on a Canadian Netflix show from several years ago. Its name escapes me but the folk in the original show had some real issues for various reasons, there was one woman with so much Tupperware. This seems a much gentler version.
I thought they had done a fantastic job of remodelling the house. (Unlike Changing Rooms with its Wall of Hair!)

spongedog · 25/08/2021 21:59

I think you are being harsh OP. They seemed a lovely family who had had a very tricky time, recovered from that but hadnt managed to get life fully back on track. I really can sympathise.

I like Nick Knowles - I think he is good with people and seems able to get them to open up.

MrsDThomas · 26/08/2021 21:11

Here we go again.

Pure mess. No need. Why can’t they see the mess?

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 28/08/2021 09:12

I think that some people just cannot see the mess at all. My dh and I are tidy people and we like to throw things out , but I appreciate that not everyone is like this ( I still have clutter in drawers etc , but we try to keep on top of it if we can ) having moved a few times in the past helps too as you have to be ruthless.
It's amazing the transformation after they clear it all and I agree that NK is pretty good in this.
I would still love to do this though as I'm sure I could still throw a lot more things away ! To see everything you own in one place must be amazing!!
( I also like the horder / cleaning programmes they have on channel five and four too )
