The programme that apparently is why NW won’t be in unforgotten s5

Looks good I do like e detective /thriller/murder series 😄

Annika, written by Perrier nominated writer Nick Walker, is based on the hugely successful Radio 4 drama and follows the sharp, witty and enigmatic DI Annika Strandhed (Nicola Walker), as she heads up a new specialist Marine Homicide Unit (MHU).

This specialist unit is tasked with investigating the unexplained, sometimes brutal, and seemingly unfathomable murders that wash up in the waterways of Scotland.

Throughout the series, Annika makes the audience her confidante by breaking the fourth wall and sharing her wry observations on the case and her life, as she manages her brilliant yet unconventional team, and her equally brilliant yet complex teenage daughter.

Intuitive and instinctive, Annika has a weakness for using literary and historical references to help solve crimes, an enthusiasm that her team definitely doesn't share, but which is often the thing that unlocks the puzzle.

The team's cases take them from the depths of Glasgow's Clyde River to the Isle of Bute and picturesque Loch Katrine as they solve a new crime each episode, juxtaposing Scotland's stunning landscapes and urban beauty against the horrific realities of the murders her team must solve.

I’m watching episode 2 now (just starting) I really want to like it but her accent is doing my head in. It’s going to have to be much better than last week for me to get past the accent

mum2jakie · 24/08/2021 21:59

Only seen the first episode but really enjoyed it. I could watch Nicola Walker reading the phone book though but still found this engaging. Liked the remarks to camera and the unexpected twist to the murder. She's a lot more smiley than characters she usually plays.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/08/2021 22:12

I do like the chats the camera. Still bugs me what programme that I’ve seen does that

And her chats with dd

And that now the bloke left at station is beginning to like and respect her. And miss her 😂

Not sure how falling that distance tho that sigi wasn’t more injured /dead

I really wanted to like this. It reminded me of a drama that they would show in the afternoon rather than the evening. Love Nichola but thought this was poor.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/08/2021 12:19

Really ? I enjoyed but doesn’t take much with tv with me 😂

We watched it tonight and really liking it , there is a lot of Scottish actors that we are saying , oh who are they 😄

Mrsjayy · 27/08/2021 22:50

Do we know why. She has an English accent yet?

mum2jakie · 28/08/2021 16:52

I've seen the second episode and really like the characters. It reminds me of the Strike series in that the murder mystery is really secondary to the ongoing relationship between the main cast. I'm enjoying it

Jaysmith71 · 29/08/2021 12:58

@Mrsjayy

Not heard of Shauna Macdonald of "The Descent?"

Yes, the English accent is a toughie. I'm guessing boarding school.

RaraRachael · 04/09/2021 11:31

We were looking forward to this as I've enjoyed most of Nicola Walker's stuff in the past but I thought it was awful. OH is going to give it the benefit of the doubt but I won't be bothering. I hated the 4th wall and her supposed attempts at humour.
Are she and her daughter meant to be Norwegian? She has a Norwegian name and the daughter made reference to moving, but she has an English accent and the daughter has a Scottish one.

BooseysMom · 05/09/2021 06:32

I love Nicola and had made a note to watch out for this series when it was mentioned on the Unforgotten thread. I didn't realise it was being shown on Alibi. Thanks op Smile

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/09/2021 16:11

@Blondeshavemorefun.. Thank you Grin I'm behind as I haven't seen the first one yet!

Jaysmith71 · 06/09/2021 10:23

It does row a Viking longship through police procedures, but hey, crazy detective who keeps talking to her invisible friend. Colleagues would surely notice.

Accents are fine: Annika, Norwegian born and English-schooled. Morgan, possibly English-born but Scottish-schooled.

mum2jakie · 06/09/2021 20:22

Just watched the third episode and think it was weaker than the previous episodes. The murder enquiry was a bit of a dull one and pretty sure making a play for your daughter's therapist is going to fuck her up even more!

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/09/2021 19:39

Working tonight so will watch later in week

Watched the first one today and didn't get the ending at all. But I was half asleep! I like the way she talks to the camera..didn't at first but it grew on me as it went on. She's a brilliant actress. I thought the prog would be called Anneka Stranded as in she's stranded. I didn't realise her surname is Strandhed!

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/09/2021 22:12

Why didn’t you get the ending

That young girlie ruined the Proclaimers song

BooseysMom · 12/09/2021 14:59

@Blondeshavemorefun.. she had switched the body or put someone's clothes on him or something?! I lost track when I fell asleep!

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/09/2021 16:25

Oh god. I don’t think I R.E.M. that

Maybe I fell asleep 🙀😂😴

@Blondeshavemorefun.. lol. I can't understand what happened! I thought maybe I'm not clever enough to work it out! And I couldn't be bothered to start again from the beginning!
Have you watched any others yet? I watched the second one and i thought it was ok. I did manage to follow it this time! I like it when she addresses the camera with a funny comment!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/09/2021 14:45

The building that they are using as the Marine Homicide squad HQ is actually an Arts Centre in Greenock - you can gave coffee and cake there, in the lobby you see behind them when they go in or out. Nice cake - no murder on the side!

I live near Paisley, and it’s lovely to spot places I know. Plus I love police procedural dramas and Nicola Walker, so I’m loving Annika!
