Telling them who to pick. It may as well be a written and produced soap opera tbh.
I don’t know why I bother watching it. It’s all completely fake.

Lampzade · 16/07/2021 12:28

If the new guy likes Lucinda why the hell are they bringing him in for Kaz.? Just send in a guy who is Kaz’s type and whose type is Kaz.

I think people are beginning to realise that Hugo is not as nice and vulnerable as he
makes out.
I actually like Faye, but her behaviour has been terrible lately

LadyCatStark · 16/07/2021 12:37

@SugarbabyMilly

I don't like Hugo. I haven't liked him since him calling people fake. I agree with those who mentioned incel vibes.

Sharon comes across as sulky and hard work.

But he didn’t actually call anyone fake, he said he doesn’t like fake people which is valid, they got offended because they’re fake which is surely their issue more than Hugo’s. They don’t have a right to be fancied just because they’ve spent a lot of money on themselves!
CrackOnOrGoHome · 16/07/2021 12:38

How much influence do the producers have?

Dancingonmoonlight · 16/07/2021 12:46

In fairness any guy who walks in will be attracted to Lucinda.
They want guys fighting for her. I presume that’s why they removed Brad.

They need a bigger pool of people in there really. They are coupling up to remain in the villa and complaining after that the person they are with dumped them/fancies someone else.

He never said anyone there was or called anyone fake. He said he doesn't like fake, both personality and looks wise. It was never aimed at anyone. And it was also clearly orchestrated by the producers 'keep repeating that' and clever editing made it seem even worse. I don't think the editing was even that clever actually, it was glaring obvious it was a set up. I think he's just a young, posh lad who's not used to the type of 'Insta influencer' women on live island.
PumpkinKlNG · 16/07/2021 12:51

I wonder if he will do the usual telling kaz his type is “personality and a nice smile” and telling Lucinda he likes “petite blondes” 🤨

Dancingonmoonlight · 16/07/2021 12:55

And telling Kaz he likes ‘her energy’ which will result in her shrieking even more and shaking her booty as she thinks it’s attractive!

I absolutely agree with this... he did say he loathed Fake Personalities .... and was turned into something uglier by Faye and Sharon ...
He is allowed to express preferences ...
Whats the FIRST THING everyone asks on entering the House...

WHAT'S YOUR TYPE THEN ?

but apparently Hugo isn't allowed a type ... 😳

Completely agree. The girls were the ones who took the word fake to apply to themselves, he never directed it at them at all. He was just talking in general about characteristics he doesn't find attractive in the same way all of them have spoken.

I can't see how it's any different to if he'd have named the trait he finds least attractive as blonde hair? I can't remember what the other boys said (except arm hair Hmm) but surely they could have applied to girls in the villa too?

The most he can be accused of is being a bit clumsy in saying that, given that a few of the girls have very visible surgery/work done, but I genuinely don't think it was ever meant spitefully.

Liking someone for their ‘energy’ just means nothing. It’s just means ‘I’m not attracted to you’.

She really does like to shriek and dance!

Dancingonmoonlight · 16/07/2021 14:07

She really does like to shriek and dance!

I think that’s an act. In the diary room she is very emotionally intelligent.
I think she is fake tbh.

This is a good point

Chicchicchicchiclana · 16/07/2021 14:17

I looked at that DM link about the new boy.

It looks to me like he used the N word like some black boys do, as a term of affection, which is strictly frowned on if you're not actually black. It's a bit of a minefield. Looks like misjudged cultural appropriation to me, rather than anything more sinister.

Or am I reading it wrong?

Zampa · 16/07/2021 14:29

He might not be a racist but he used a racist term and as a white man, you can't do that.

DavidTheDog · 16/07/2021 14:32

It’s a comment on a tweeted photo. I do think n-a is different to n-er. I wouldn’t dream of using either, but I think it’s more complicated for young men growing up in diverse friendship groups.

OP posts:
Chicchicchicchiclana · 16/07/2021 14:38

Yes, Zampa, as I said - it's a minefield.

My son's friendship group is mainly black and mixed race (he is white). I could picture him trying to join in with the banter and getting it wrong when he didn't know the unspoken rules.

I'm giving Danny the benefit of the doubt here, obviously I don't actually KNOW.

Zampa · 16/07/2021 14:41

Likewise, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt but super conscious that I'm white so don't think I get to decide whether it's something that can be forgiven.

AngeloMysterioso · 16/07/2021 14:42

I just don’t understand why people who know they’re going to be in the public eye don’t go through all their social media with a fine tooth comb beforehand. Because you can be damn sure some journo or other is going to…

Monsteraobliqua · 16/07/2021 14:45

From the article I saw it didn't look as though there was clear racist intent behind it. However, I think in this day and age, he should know the sensitivities surrounding that word and refrain from using it, certainly online, even if he has a diverse peer group who are happy with him using it.

I don't want to see his name dragged through the mud for this if there's no more to it but I can see a 'family emergency' coming up like with that lad who was pictured big game hunting.

PumpkinKlNG · 16/07/2021 15:05

Hmm I tried to give Danny the benefit of the doubt (my ex is black and said he doesn’t mind his friends using the word not saying he speaks for all black people btw! ) but Danny doesn’t appear to have any black friends looking at his Instagram and the guy he said it to was white, so yes I find it uncomfortable personally.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 16/07/2021 15:05

Yes, you can't get away with hiding things about yourself as a Love Island contestant which is why the comments on this thread about AJ not being 28 are so bloody silly.

UnrivaledJoyofStarGazing · 16/07/2021 15:14

@Chicchicchicchiclana I would agree, looks to me like he was trying to use the word in the same way black rappers use the word to refer to each other. Taking away its power by taking ownership of it.

You can't do this though if you are white. For obvious reasons. Gwyneth Paltrow also made the same mistake when trying to reference a JZ song and got slated for it.

I would see it as a mistake. A stupid mistake. But not necessarily and indication that he is racist.

MummyJ12 · 16/07/2021 15:21

Definitely ignorant

blossomhillx · 16/07/2021 15:56

Isn't first look usually up by now 🧐
