There is nothing wrong with being in your 40s or happening to look grown up (whatever that means)

It's quite depressing to see age being used as a slur - but no worse than the other narrow expectations

Monsteraobliqua · 15/07/2021 07:51

I really don't blame Lucinda for staying, she looked sad but had only known brad days and seemed quite on top of the fact that she fancied him like mad but had had reservations about his conversation and personality, plus they live hundreds of miles apart. I like Faye but since when was Brad her 'best friend in here' as she claimed?

AuntieStella · 15/07/2021 07:51

@Mrstreehouse

Lucinda has only known Brad a few days, why should she leave with him? It’s no time at all to get to know someone.
If she's canny and doesn't find someone who really is the start of something good, then these events mean she has an excellent exit ahead of her. Because she'll be in a scratchy kind of friendship couple, they'll get voted off as not terribly compatible, and she'll be able to say how she 'kept' (new man, her lovely friend) in the villa in the hope he would find The One, and how she's had a lovely time with everyone in the villa, but all that's on her mind right now is finding Brad on the outside
Bluntness100 · 15/07/2021 08:03

I also thought fayes reaction to Lucinda staying was well off. No way Faye would leave with teddy and it was a similar situation. They’ve known each other a few days, she’d have been off her head to leave. There’s no way Faye thought Lucinda was in love and found the one, she was simply being bitchy and making it all about her. It was attention seeking behaviour.

The producers want aj to go after teddy because it will cause fireworks between her and Faye, and make good tv. Faye will proper kick off and they know it.

Aj does look like she’s got a face full of fillers which ages her. But I’m also not sure if it’s just she looks older in comparison to many of the younger girls in there. It was the same with Laura from yesteryear she looked much older but was maybe in comparison to the others. I think we need to see Aj more to see her properly. It was poor lighting and she was clearly nervous.

ufucoffee · 15/07/2021 08:08

Let's not forget. Faye will have been told to talk to Lucinda about not leaving with Brad. All the chats you see are set up by producers in that contestants are told to talk to each other about stuff. The whole show is contrived. I don't believe that Brad and Lucinda were the bottom couple. Still watch it though.

Mrstreehouse · 15/07/2021 08:14

@AuntieStella wow, that’s a leap! 😂

Chicchicchicchiclana · 15/07/2021 08:19

How can anyone say Lucinda should have left with Brad with a straight face? How ridiculous. I also don't understand the "he/she's just playing the game" comments. Yes, and? They're all in there to win £50,000 and the ersatz but very lucrative fame that comes with being on the show - the longer the better.

If you seriously think any of their priorities are finding "the one" then you are being hopelessly gullible a bit naieve I think.

ElderMillennial · 15/07/2021 08:23

I don't think Lucinda should have left with Brad but I think she could have offered to go rather than letting Brad go.

I also don't think she should have said anything about both going if she had no such intention.

Noterook · 15/07/2021 08:37

I think it's good she didn't offer to go, it's often expected in life that women will be kind and roll over, good for her. Perhaps she would have considered both going if he had been really into it, but thankfully I think he realised that wasn't the best idea. He's done himself a favour I think, he didn't come across overly well in there but he did a decent thing, and probably will have more support out here now.

AJs promo shot seems to have done her dirty as its not very flattering, but it's funny how people cry out for a wider variety of people in there, but god forbid they put in a woman who is slightly older than the others Hmm.

To whoever said about having bi people in there, they can couple up with someone of the same sex if they like, someone did in a previous series.

Maves · 15/07/2021 08:39

We were eating special k with strawberries this morning now he's gone....fuck Nevis that the best you e got Lucinda. She is very immature for 21 and her voice! She should have gone nothing to her. Brad only liked her looks shallow as fuck they should have both gone. Love island has lost its way if I'm honest "models" "influencers" get some normal peeps in. Liam and Millie are genuine I think though.
Faye bore off now.

blossomhillx · 15/07/2021 08:41

I think it's good they have someone older (29 isn't old at all tbf) but AJ does look a lot lot older then that Blush I found her Instagram and even in the older photos where she would be 25 ish she looks in her 30s

I think the issue is people want drama and putting someone in who isn't actually a "bombshell" who everyone is going to fancy isn't going to cause much interest. If Teddy likes her tho...Faye will cause havoc

Because they could clean up by being the ones on the outside early, and providing a commentary on what is 'really' happening inside, improve their recognition factor that way, and look sweet together until after LI itself has ended, so they can bill themselves as the 'real winners'
Maves · 15/07/2021 08:47

Just putting this out there

Not really, it's one way to look at how to play the game to best effect.

She has a good exit in the bag. Better position than the others

Bluntness100 · 15/07/2021 08:54

I think that’s the producers plan. Aj has already said she likes teddy. I think they’ve put her in to see if teddy jumps and faye causes some memorable scenes.

This. I don't think I've ever seen a conversation so wooden and stilted as the one between Toby and Chloe last night. It felt like really bad acting. There was no flow to their conversation at all. Totally unnatural.

And then add Chloe's ever changing voice and accent..

Mrstreehouse · 15/07/2021 08:59

It’s not playing the game to best effect if you leave! Playing the game to best effect is meeting someone who the public think you are being genuine with, staying to the end and winning all the dosh! Or have I misunderstood the ‘game’?

Bluntness100 · 15/07/2021 09:08

Chloe and Toby are over. He was playing a bigger game than her. His comment on them being fucked shows it. He thought Chloe was the popular girl so getting with her would make them a top couple. He’s now thinking he should have stuck with kaz to habe a chance to win.

They will both be off with someone else first chance, her because she now knows he’s playing her totally and him, because, well, he is playing her totally. That ones game over.

Bibidy · 15/07/2021 09:08

I actually feel quite bad for Lucinda.

She had only known Brad a few days, of course she didn't want to leave the villa. It's all about the experience and exposure for them really, these beautiful young people wouldn't struggle to find 'love' on the outside!

I feel like it put her in an impossible position because if she left that quickly she's only had a few days of being in there and would lose the potential of a lot of opportunities, but by staying she's now become incredibly unpopular. So either way she couldn't win.

Her only hope now is to become part of a popular couple.

Tbh I don't think he's that deep.

I think he's just young and immature and didn't realise how him moving on from Kaz in the way he did would impact his popularity with the public. I think he does genuinely prefer Chloe but it's knocked him for six to think they may not be universally loved.

Theorangeorange · 15/07/2021 09:17

AJ looks like Karren on the RHOP - if anyone watches that nonsense too - like me Blush

Chicchicchicchiclana · 15/07/2021 09:25

I agree with you about Lucinda, Bibidy.

We had the same a couple of years ago when Joanna left after not being in the villa for very long. Everyone was saying Michael should have gone with her in some grand romantic gesture! It was only 2 weeks to the end or something, so why SHOULD he?

bibliomania · 15/07/2021 09:38

I understand why Lucinda chose to stay, but it was the whole "pretend to be a widow and lap up attention" thing that I found annoying.

Mind you, if you go on LI, by definition you're there to lap up attention so

Dancingonmoonlight · 15/07/2021 09:55

why SHOULD he?

But why should Lucinda have stayed and not Brad??? There didn’t seem much or any discussion from her saying he should stay?

I agree, why the hell should she cut her once-in-a-lifetime experience & opportunity short after so little time for someone she’s only known a few days? Bloody ridiculous.
