@Raahh

80s I have everything crossed. It's 2 weeks. How hard can it be? Grin.
Fingers crossed for you all ! It's been awful for the kids all this ( and the parents ) Must be so disruptive. Then another six weeks off too.
Buggerthebotox · 04/07/2021 11:10

Yes Tim is always so nice. Maybe he was too nice to be a champ, with his nice parents and nice girlfriend always in tow. .

I love his humour and his graciousness though. A proper gent.

JaneJeffer · 04/07/2021 12:07

Bunny that's fun Grin

Well done to your young sailor kazza

That's exciting Bugger. You'll have to make a special Mumsnet sign to show to the camera. Naice Tennis maybe?

@Raahh, I love Tim's sense of humour.

Buggerthebotox · 04/07/2021 12:39

@JaneJeffer very naice indeed. Can't wait. Hope it's worth the pre-tournament jabbing, testing and certifying. Haven't been for years.

kazzaD66 · 04/07/2021 13:16

Yes, beneath his Wimbledon suit, Bob the Builder hard hat and his Home Counties facade lies a very dry and wicked sense of humour Grin

Well done bugger! Enjoy Smile

the80sweregreat · 04/07/2021 13:23

Tim is a nice enough chap.
Emma is the new poster girl now though. Hope it doesn't change her.

MarshaBradyo · 04/07/2021 13:24

I caught the end of Emma’s match

I was quite emotional at the end. What a star

Grin

I watched the Borg Vs McEnroe film the other night. (The 1980 final though Grin)

I had forgotten that Leo was in it.

GrouchyKiwi · 04/07/2021 21:33

That hair.

JaneJeffer · 04/07/2021 21:33

It's a terrible film Grin

The one I remember best (and the first one I remember at all) was Stan Smith and Ilie Nastase in 1972.

Also loved Ivanisevic and Rafter in 2001.

Raahh · 05/07/2021 07:20

Bugger Ivanisevic/Rafter in 2001 is once of my favourite finals - everything about it was played in such great spirit- the fact it was the Monday (and I didn't work Mondays- although I had had the previous week off anyway) , and I loved both players. I always wished Pat could have have won one Wimbledon (preferably against Sampras- never liked him)- but I was thrilled for Goran.

ChessieFL · 05/07/2021 08:45

That’s one of my favourite finals too Raah. I was gutted not to be able to watch it properly though as I had to work on the Monday - not that I got much done though, just spent the afternoon obsessively checking the BBC news website updates (no sneaky watching of iPlayer on my phone in those days!)

Fizzywinegum · 05/07/2021 09:17

It’s one of my favourite finals as well - I had a dentist appointment in the middle of it! Grin

Looking forward to seeing some tennis today. Hoping to see some of Berretini this morning - I’m surprised he’s not been on any of the show courts yet being Queen’s champion. He seems to have been a bit under the radar which might suit him.

I’ve got to go out at 2pm - I’m not really bothered about watching Djok - Zverev and Felix AA could be good. The Barty match should be interesting as well. Also looking forward to seeing Emma’s match later - I’ve not seen her play yet - hope she doesn’t get overwhelmed by the (inevitable) hype and Roger and Sonego

Should be a good day Smile

BunnyBerries · 05/07/2021 09:51

Glad everyone had a nice relaxing Sunday playing Google tennis Tennis

Incidentally Roger Federer brought this up in a video walkabout yesterday but it seems from next year there will be no 'middle Sunday off' in the tournament. info here

Seems it like it will make it fairer for the women, so all of the 'last 16' Monday winners will not have to play again on Tues, ie. two days in a row (as their final is Sat, men's is Sunday).

Raahh · 05/07/2021 09:57

Funnily enough Fizzy I have a dentist appointment at 12.30 today Grin. I am hoping they can decide what to do with my wobbly front tooth.

I've been surprised that Matteo has not been on the show courts too- as you say, he' s the Queen's champion. Maybe not that surprised though- they have to put all the Brits somewhere I suppose Wink but maybe it's a good thing. Less pressure for now.

I think Sonego will relish the match against Fed- the only other time they have played was a first round at RG in 2019. A lot has happened since then- and Lorenzo knows he can push players like Djok. He has made a lot of fans.

Zverev and Felix should be a good one- it might be a bit like the Daniil/Cilic match- possibly look like one way traffic- and then end up going all the way.

The women's side- as has been the case so often in slams- is full of names no-one expected /has heard of/players who haven't done well for ages. Although I'm not a 'Brit supporter' necessarily, I do like what I've seen of Emma, and hope she does well. But I agee with Magi from Saturday- if she does continue- just let her carry on at her own pace- the media get so carried away. She's not won it -yet.

I think the big match could be Ons and Iga- Ons is doing so well- and Iga is getting better on grass. It will be called an 'upset' if Jabeur beats Swiatek- even though grass isn't really Iga's surface. It should be a good match.

Raahh · 05/07/2021 10:00

Bunny no there wont be a middle Sunday next year. (I kept thinking it was this year). Not having a middle Sunday has been to do with giving the grass a 'rest' but they have found grass that doesn't need it - or something.
except it seems slippery as heck

Grin
Fizzywinegum · 05/07/2021 10:05

Manic Monday can get a bit much Bunny - there are just too many good matches on today so I’ll end up missing something and then the Tuesday after can seem a bit flat

I do like how Wimbledon has its traditions though - I was surprised that the men’s final has only been played on the Sunday since 1981. Yes playing on the middle Sunday will make it fairer for women players so they get equal amounts of rest

JaneJeffer · 05/07/2021 10:27

I liked Roger's little tour of the grounds and him saying maybe the grass people were playing tennis under the court covers Grin

I had totally forgotten that about the men's final too Fizzy

I've just seen the Duchess of Cambridge is having to isolate after being a close contact with someone last week- do you think it was Tim??! Grin
