Andrew Cotter is now taking over the beard chat. Fergus Murphy apparently has the best groomed beard and a moustache like a raven's wing.

JaneJeffer · 17/06/2021 16:36

What are they on? Grin

I'm watching Sascha now. Not looking great for him. Humbert is playing really well.

Fizzywinegum · 17/06/2021 16:36

I’ve just tuned in to hear the beard talk - these two talk more rubbish than Andrew Castle Grin

JaneJeffer · 17/06/2021 16:49

And Sascha is out.

Raahh · 17/06/2021 16:50

Oh dear, so Sascha is out.

Shapovalov is playing well against Lopez.

Raahh · 17/06/2021 17:39

To cheer us up, after Rafa's announcement, Big Foe is looking great in his sleeveless top. Wink

Raahh · 17/06/2021 17:40

Or should I say she is...

DS1 has just asked who he is - he says he looks quite cool (for a tennis player) Hmm

Fizzywinegum · 17/06/2021 17:57

Yes Frances definitely suits the sleeveless look!

Meanwhile John and Andrew are talking about slip on shoes Grin

PrivateSpidey · 17/06/2021 18:33

Hi all, hope everyone is doing well. Thanks for the thread kazza Star

Heard a bit of the beard chat earlier Grin classic commentator material Grin

I didn't see any of Andy's match but it sounds like Berrettini played really well.

Such sad news about Rafa. I had been wondering whether he would play Wimbledon, but I was surprised about the Olympics, such a shame Sad. Did he say anything about when he expects to return? Loved the translation btw kazza

JaneJeffer · 17/06/2021 18:41

Is Frances trying to use up all Troicki's challenges? Grin

JaneJeffer · 17/06/2021 18:46

Don't rush yourself there son. And people think Rafa is slow.

Fizzywinegum · 17/06/2021 19:50

DH tried to get Wimbledon tickets earlier today but no chance - I think he was 26000 in the queue!

I would have probably ended up seeing Djok or Kyrgios anyway (destined never to see Rafa at Wimbledon Sad)

Raahh · 17/06/2021 20:01

Fizzy Sad

Maybe Djok will get a nasty case of sunburn in Mallorca

I was reading an article, that seemed to suggest that Goran doesn't think going to Mallorca is a good idea- the courts are very different to Wimbledon, plus the weather- and then there's the bubble situation in London, and the fact Djok would be playing on the first day.

Hopefully- he's right!

kazzaD66 · 17/06/2021 20:14

Yes, I chortled at Fergus' beard appreciation society earlier Grin

Can't believe they got through all today's schedule. It's rained all afternoon here.

Thought it was nice for John Inverdale to have a chat with Alfie Hewitt on Centre Court between matches today. It was good that the BBC recognised his achievements and hopefully it also raises the profile of wheelchair tennis.

Perhaps Djok could have a dodgy paella in Mallorca, although given his strict dietary requirements, the chances of that happening are less than zero Hmm

kazza we have some really great results in the wheel chair events -I am glad thet have been able to play at some tournaments- I imagine a lot have been affected by Covid.

The beard stuff was brilliant- it was the raven/tache that cracked me up Grin.

It would be terrible if somehow Djok was unable to fly back from Mallorca to London, wouldn't it? And possibly Nick. A terrible shame. Grin.

Fizzywinegum · 17/06/2021 21:06

Maybe uncle Toni can be in charge of the prawns Grin

kazzaD66 · 17/06/2021 21:10

That was my thought fizzy but I didn't like to say it Grin
I'm sure there must be a Nadal family restaurant somewhere that could help with the catering......

I'm sure they can disguise them as figs somehow.

I've just read Naomi has withdrawn from Wimbledon. I am not really surprised by that.

JaneJeffer · 17/06/2021 22:17

Domi has withdrawn from the Olympics.

Raahh · 18/06/2021 07:36

Jane I think more players will, to be honest. I know quite a few were concerned about Covid safety-and isolating- and that's before you consider the fact it's another event in an almost full calendar this year (and financially not too many can afford to skip 'main' events). Domi is (hopefully) young and fit enough to get another chance at an Olympics.

magimedi · 18/06/2021 08:27

I thinkm you are right, Raahh.

And I think we'll see some players retiring over the next year. If you aren't doing so well the pressure of the 'bubble' must be even worse.

Is Domi coming to Wimbledon??

Raahh · 18/06/2021 09:07

magi Dom is still listed so far- but that doesn't really mean much- there's over a week, and I've known players withdraw the day before, after the draw has been made. I hope he does go- but maybe he thinks his best chance is the American hard court swing- there will be big pressure on him to defend the US Open, and I think he's found being a slam champion, mentally, quite hard.

Raahh · 18/06/2021 09:10

It does make it look like Djok has Wimbledon pretty much sewn up though, sadly, - Federer was basically saying he is still not recovered from his knee surgeries (and I bet he's regretting going to RG now- he might have been better skipping that, and getting grass practice in Stuttgart).
I'm not really sure any of the younger players have shown enough form on grass to be a massive threat- though some are getting there.

Rublev has won in Halle- but it's raining at Queen's Sad
