Anyone watching Norrie v Shapovalov?
Norrie had a poor start and looked to be up against it but has broken back.

Raahh · 19/06/2021 15:34

I'm trying to- but I keep getting pestered Grin

I am also keeping my eye on Halle- where Felix and Ugo Humbert are playing- is one set all there- both have had a good week, so that could go either way now.

MajesticWhine · 19/06/2021 16:25

It's an attractive game. Cameron Norrie playing out of his skin and now serving for the match.

MajesticWhine · 19/06/2021 16:28

Norrie looks a lot older even though he isn't. Shapo looking like the class cool-kid and Norrie like the history teacher.

PrivateSpidey · 19/06/2021 16:32

I just switched it on in time to see Norrie walking off court! Sounds like a good match though Majestic

PrivateSpidey · 19/06/2021 16:39

Oh are they using the grass court formula this year?

PrivateSpidey · 19/06/2021 16:43

Wimbledon seeding I mean Grin
I don't think they are.

Raahh · 19/06/2021 17:01
Grin

No, Private this year they are sticking with the world rankings (so Fed won't get the benefit) although I thought this wording on the website was odd-

-'Seeding for the Ladies’ Singles will be based on world ranking, except where, in the opinion of the Professional Tennis Committee, a change is necessary to produce a balanced draw.'

What are they suggesting? Or is this to cover themselves, in the event that they have a 'Serena isn't actually eligible to be seeded, but we'll do it anyway' scenario again? HmmNot relevent this year, obviously.
(It doesn't say it after the men's bit, by the way).

magimedi · 19/06/2021 17:10

Norrie/Shapavalov was a really good match. Some great tennis.

In the absence of Rafa, I shall be rooting for Berrettini at Wimbledon.

(As well as being ABD*)

PrivateSpidey · 19/06/2021 17:46

Raahh Grin yes I checked that page as well, because on BBC they were talking about Cam Norrie, and saying he'd be ranked about 34 after this week and maybe he would be seeded at Wimbledon, and then they mentioned the seeding formula. Tbh I can't remember exactly what they said now Grin but I thought they weren't using it this year so I had to check!

Glad you enjoyed the match magi, I just saw the few points they replayed afterwards, it looked really good.

Raahh · 19/06/2021 17:57

Private by my reckoning, Cam should be seeded, because there are at least 3 people ahead of him who have withdrawn.

I think Marin will just miss out now- which is a shame- but could make him a dangerous 'floater'.

I hoped they might show the doubles on BBC 2- I 'm having problems with my red button today. (Though it might be on Prime I suppose).

Raahh · 19/06/2021 18:02

I have found the doubles- and Opelka wins worst dressed of the year for the black and white splodgy version of the pink kit he worse recently. It makes him look like a tall friesian cow.

kazzaD66 · 19/06/2021 18:55

Grinraahh tall frieisan cow

Didn't see any tennis today unfortunately. Sad
If Norrie does move up to 34, he must be seeded, given the withdrawals above him. Unless the seedings have already been done Hmm

Well bloody hell I finally managed to get on Mumsnet! What happened?

I didn't get to see any today but I see Ugo got through to the final in Halle so well done to him.

I don't know which final to watch tomorrow!

Raahh · 20/06/2021 09:06

Morning all!

Jane I am not sure what to watch either- Ugo has been really good all week- and I think Rublev has shown he can play as well on grass as anywhere.
But...the lovely MatteoGrinSorry, Cam.

I think AC fancies Matteo. (I don't blame him, he's probably got a lot of extra fans this weekGrin).

JaneJeffer · 20/06/2021 11:37

MN is still playing up I see.

Raonic has announced he won't be at Wimbledon. He has an injury. I'm not a fan of his but I know you like him Raahh. It will be an interesting Wimbledon this year.

Raahh · 20/06/2021 12:55

Jane that's sad. I am very fond of Milos, and his too-short, shorts .Grin. Winder if he's sorted his Wreck-it Ralph lock down hair?
He's had terrible luck since 2016- though he didn't have a bad run at fake Cincy last year - getting to the final.
We were only talking yesterday (?) about whether he was going to Wimbledon, and if he might be a contender .

It really is shaping up to an interesting Wimbledon.

(Someone awful- like Isner- is destined to win it, aren't they? In a final lasting 6 days. With tie breaks. )

Good news for Cilic though- if no-one else goes above him in the next week- as it means he should be seeded (though I'm not sure how late the seedings are announced.).

Raahh · 20/06/2021 13:02

At least I get to see the start of the Halle match- the Queen's one starts at 1.30pm

JaneJeffer · 20/06/2021 13:03

Oh yes a Djok/Isner final. Who would we shout for? Grin

Raahh · 20/06/2021 13:19

Jane It would be a tricky one.

Probably the umpire Grin.

Tallpaulwho · 20/06/2021 13:33

Honestly Wimbledon, which I have been so looking forward to, is feeling a bit of damp squib for me now. So many of my faves won't be there, especially Rafa and Raonic. Not sure who to support but I'm glad Ttisipas and Cilic will still be there and I'm very impressed with Berrettini, so those three will definitely get my support.

I admit to also being an ABD fan (anyone but Djokovich). Although I should be a ABDKZ fan, anyone but Djokovich or Krygios or Zverev.

On the women's side its like tossing a coin really, the game is so up and down with no consistency from anyone. I would like Barty to win but has she even confirmed she is playing yet?

Raahh · 20/06/2021 13:45

Tall I must admit, that apart from Naomi, I haven't really seen much regarding who is going to be at Wimbledon for the women. So far she is the only 'big' name I can see that has pulled out.

I do like Barty-(I'm not sure how her injury is though)- I am also hoping Simona does well.
Some of the younger players (as with the men) are a bit 'unknown' on grass- so I'm interested to see how Swiatek gets on.

I don't want the men's side to an inevitable journey towards a Djok title. I have been really impressed by Berrettini, and Rublev has/is doing well in Halle.

Fingers crossed it ends up being a surprising (in a good way) tournament Grin.

Raahh · 20/06/2021 13:47

I have just seen that Halep has withdrawn from a tournament in Germany- due to start tomorrow, as her calf still isn't quite right.
Will be a massive shame if she misses Wimbledon.

JaneJeffer · 20/06/2021 13:53

I don't like Sascha being lumped in with those two Tall Grin

Ugo is going well.

JaneJeffer · 20/06/2021 13:55

Looks a bit overcast in London. The roof is on in Halle. Where's summer?
